For water lovers only, this bucolic cottage is perched on the water towards the head of the Magothy River that leads to the Chesapeake. The view of the water will wow you from the moment you arrive. The cottage features a panoramic 180 degree view of the water from a wall of windows and 6 sets of sliding glass doors. A wrap around deck encircles the cottage, complete with gas grill and deck chairs where you can enjoy your wine or coffee overlooking the river. A new dock extending out into the river for 72 feet completes the bucolic scene. Sit by the fire pit next to the water or enjoy the interior wood stove. You can tie your own boat at the dock or rent one for water activities. Use our two kayaks to explore the river and inlets where you will see bald eagles, ospreys, and other wildlife. This Magothy cottage was bought as a second home, renovated and lovingly furnished with antiques. The cottage features central heating and cooling, and has been made energy efficient by the owner, who is a professional in the energy efficiency industry. The cottage can sleep a total of six in two bedrooms: one on the main floor with queen bed, and one that occupies the entire second floor with double bed and double blow up mattress. The bathroom features a Jacuzzi tub and glass shower. The kitchen features new appliances. Washer and dryer. TV with cable. Wireless FIOS internet. Barbeque on the deck. This Magothy cottage is ideal for one couple with children or two couples looking for peace, serenity, and access to the water.
We live in Pittsburgh and bought our Magothy Cottage with an eye towards retirement except that we are not ready to retire! Babs Carryer is an entrepreneur and professor of entrepreneurship; Tim Carryer is an energy efficiency expert.

We love the water, we love boating, and we love the Chesapeake. Magothy River Cottage is in an ideal location: on the water, close to Chesapeake Bay, and yet close to wonderful towns and cities like Annapolis, Washington DC, and Baltimore. The climate is temperate and the seasons are lovely.
The view is stunning from daybreak to dusk. It is the most relaxing and inspiring house we have ever seen. While there are lots of activities to do around boating and other, we often just enjoy the view and the peace and quiet of the river.
I am a traveler, I love to travel. I love to explore new places. This is on the top of the list. Quiet, charming, beautiful and accommodating. The owners go over and above for you. You will love this place, you can get to DC quickly, use the train if you want. Close to Annapolis. Your wine store is about a two miles down. The mall (if you're into that is about 5 miles). Wake up to the misty glow of the river, it is beautiful natural country in the city. Loved it!
We had a great time. The view of the river from the deck is awesome and the cottage is located a block from the boat ramp. Great place to bond and enjoy family time. I highly recommend it.
Spent two weeks at the cozy Magothy River cottage in June, and enjoyed our stay thoroughly. Not sure you could have a better location for enjoying all the sights and sounds of the Magothy River. The view from the deck alone is almost worth the price of the rental (which is quite reasonable). It's also a great launching point for seeing the attractions in Baltimore and Annapolis. Additionally, the owners were great to work with before, during, and after our stay.
While the cottage is cozy, it afforded us, and the assorted family members that drifted in and out during our stay, plenty of room to do whatever anyone liked. The upstairs loft is spacious and comfortable, and the main rooms downstairs are open and airy (thanks primarily to the walls of windows overlooking the deck and river). The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms were adequately supplied, although the cottage lacks a dishwasher (which is evident if you read the VRBO synopsis carefully). The cottage is located in a small neighborhood of similar houses, but we encountered no intrusions into our privacy or peace and quiet despite the relative nearness of other folk.
There are virtually no negatives to the Magothy River Cottage. Know that the shower stall is small and that one must exercise caution when moving up and down the stairs to the loft or basement. Neither greatly detract from the facility; they are simply realities of being there.
All in all, this is a great place. We HIGHLY recommend it, and we would stay there again in hearbeat!
This cottage has an impressive, unobstructed view down the Magothy River. The cottage is comfortably furnished and features an eclectic art collection. The location is convenient to both Baltimore and Annapolis, yet it is private. We enjoyed our stay and plan to return.
We stayed over the Thanksgiving holiday so our family could have a meeting place. It was perfect. The house is fully stocked with dishes and cooking utensils necessary for dinner. The best part, though, was waking every morning and having my coffee as I watched an incredibly beautiful sunrise over the river. One entire side of the house is glass windows and sliding doors. Can imagine how wonderful a summertime visit would be and may try to visit again in warmer weather.
This house has everything you need, very cozy, clean, and well equipped. The view from the deck is beautiful and tranquil. We loved sitting on the deck watching the waterfowl.
It's a great location for day trips to Annapolis, Baltimore and DC. We will be back!
My only suggestion would be for a larger TV in living room.
Located halfway between Baltimore and Annapolis, Magothy Cottage is an ideal get-away location directly on the Magothy River but close to shopping, restaurants, and attractions.
