My wife and I who live in Waukegan, Il. decided to build a cabin in Door County because as kid I used to spend my summers on Washington Island, (also in Door County), where my Grandma was born, and we both grew to love Door County as a whole.
The time and extra expense it takes to get there though, started to become prohibitive for us, so our trips/ vacations to the island eventually became farther and farther apart, even though that is where my heart is.
Rick Ochoa purchased this cabin in 2012
On our few trips to the island in later years I always enjoyed traveling on the east side (Hwy 57) because I always felt it had a little more unspoiled beauty, and offered a more balanced mix of activities vs. peace and quiet. But you can always drive staight west for 15-20 minutes to the west side, if you want to added activity. Baileys Harbor seemed to be the perfect spot, so we started to rent there.
One day it dawned on me, because of my 32 years of being in the construction trade as an electrician, to take my savings and buy a property in Baileys Harbor, then general contract the building of a vacation rental. Then hopefully it will eventually come close to paying for itself and I can use it once and awhile too. And maybe even make it back to the island once and a while.
As we explained in the description at the top of this web page we feel that we ended up building a really attractive, welcoming and peaceful vacation rental with a lot of special touchs inside and out, (thanks to the excellent workmanship of Paul LeClair, Hibbards Creek Log Homes & other capable Door Co. contractors) so that you will feel at home in it like we do.
I think the extra touches we thought of as we went along during the building process will add up to more fun for you, and as we start renting more hopefully we can add to it here and there.
The "Peace in the Pines" is just that!! A superb place to relax in private seclusion and still minutes away from great shopping, recreation, waterfront , and restaurants.
The place is one of the finest get always you will experience.
It is five star CLEAN, NEAT, and creatively built.
The design and craftsmanship lends itself to a great family retreat.
I must say, the shower is designed with relaxation in mind.

See you soon!!!!
My experience with this stay was excellent. It was a great place to relax after being out all day. I would recommend this house.
This was our 2nd summer at Peace in the Pines. This is a terrific cottage. We enjoyed the feel of seclusion among the pine trees, yet we were able to walk to town every morning to sit by the lake (about a mile). The inside of the house is kept very clean and is very comfortable. The set up works well for our family with parents in the downstairs bedroom, and our 4 kids in the loft bedroom, which they loved. The house and the outdoor spaces provided enough room for all of us, while fostering a great atmosphere for a cozy family retreat. With the possibility of a rainy day, it was important to us to have such a nice place to spend our relaxing time. The house is also nicely stocked, and it was useful to have access to laundry facilities while we were there.
Rick is super accommodating, very helpful, and gave some great recommendations about places to see while we were in Door County. We had to call Rick with a question while were in the house and he responded promptly and helped us resolve things quickly.
The location is an easy drive from many wonderful activities and attractions, and we really enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend it!
This property by far exceeded expectations and Rick was great at accommodating our group. Everything was extremely clean; definitely not the kind of place where you need to bring your own sheets, though I do recommend bringing your own pillows for comfort. Easy bike ride to downtown and enough there to keep us entertained most evenings. If you love coffee/lattes don't miss Bearded Heart Coffee in Bailey's Harbor. Easy drive to pretty much everywhere in Door County but perfectly out of the commotion of downtown.
Since we weren't actually using the cabin much, except to sleep, it felt like we could have fit a lot more people into the space. There are beds enough for 11 people and I wish we would have been allowed to use all of them to offset costs a bit more. Perhaps worth putting in a request for next time.
Peace in the Pines was exactly that! Beautiful home with all the amenities and lots of attention to detail. Since we stayed in February we really appreciated the fireplace to take the morning chill off. Enjoyed watching all the birds attracted to the bird feeder. We refilled it several times! Great location for a winter escape and would be perfect for a summer one. Thanks Rick.
My boyfriend and I arrived in late September and we could not be more pleased with our stay. The house was surprisingly spacious, beautiful and comfortable and was just minutes from town. The owner was incredibly gracious and kind and made sure our stay was as pleasant as could be. We spent our time sight seeing, hiking, swimming, eating amazing food and checking out the many wineries located nearby. The location allowed us to enjoy everything that Door County has to offer and we can't wait to go back!
