About Whitney Wigren

My wife, Whitney, and I, KC, are both born and raised Alaskans. We appropriately met while playing on the same hockey team at 9 years old; thirteen years later, we tied the knot. Just months after marrying we purchased the homestead from my wife’s great aunt and uncle’s estate to keep it in the family. My wife works for the Alaska Air National Guard and has been attending training in the “lower 48” (as we Alaskans call the continental United States) hence why we’ve decided to open our home to Alaska’s great travelers.

Whitney Wigren purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Whitney Wigren chose Anchorage

Built in 1952 by my wife’s great uncle, Smoky, this log home was an original homestead of east Eagle River, AK. Originally allotted 160 acres, Smoky sold the land over the years down to the remaining 3.5 acre property my wife and I now own today. This property will provide you a glimpse of how the old timers lived before Alaska's infrastructure was developed.

I loved this place. It is beautiful and peaceful with a unbeatable view! Easy access to Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla.

I would love to hear more about the history of the place - an original homestead!

Cool cabin, awesome view!

  • 3 of 5

Overall we can highly recommend this cabin as a great location for being accessible to Anchorage and surrounding area without being in the middle of everything. The views were awesome and ever changing. The owners gave great recommendations for things to do and all were fabulous! I gave the rental 3 stars because there were several maintenance issues. The owners quickly responded to the issues that could be addressed immediately and seemed to appreciate us letting them know about the other problems so they could be fixed.

Outstanding Value

  • 5 of 5

If you are contemplating a trip to Alaska and would like a better experience than a downtown Anchorage hotel, this cabin will exceed your expectations. There are two nice BRs, a nice kitchen, a fantastic bathroom, and an enormous LR. I put together a family reunion with 3 adult couples and two teenagers. We certainly pressed the edge of the envelope in terms of space, but everyone was very pleased with the experience. Two couples or a family of 4-6 would LOVE this place.

I lived in Eagle River 1998-2000. I knew when I saw the location on the website that it would be gorgeous. I was not disappointed. You're less than 10 minutes from Eagle River Nature Center. I took my kids up there the first night we were in town: Big bull moose, cow and a calf, black bear sow and cub. Anchorage is about 15" away. Airport is about 30". I loved Eagle River when I lived there and I think visitors would enjoy making it their home base for touring Alaska.

The owner of the lodge will send you a list of things to do and she's spot on with her recommendations. Even having lived here, I found several interesting spots that I never knew about.

If you want a great vacation in Alaska, do not pass this up.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place to stay in Alaska! The cabin is perfect for a family. The kitchen and bathroom are updated but many parts of the cabin are original. The view is spectacular! from every room in the house.

Amazing cabin for a large group

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Eagle River location and the size of the cabin. We slept 7 comfortably. It was also really nice to have a full kitchen and the bathroom was beautiful after being recently remodeled. I think the top feature though was the gorgeous view from the back porch area, which was also seen from the kitchen and living room. The owner was so nice and friendly and she went out of her way to make us feel welcomed and accommodated every need we had. If we come back to the Anchorage area in the future, we would definitely stay here again.
