Hello, I live in Michigan near Ann Arbor. I grew up in North West Ohio and lived in North East Indiana for about 20 years before moving to Michigan. Very familiar with the tri-state area....It's really a gorgeous area!

House needed MANY upgrades. They didn't even have hand soap in the bathroom. But they did have bar soap in the shower with hair all over it!! No hand towels or wash rags for kitchen they were all for the bathroom. I would never put 10 people in the house 6 max. Ants in laundry room. This is also a dry county. Pictures make it seem like there is a beach and there is not. On the upside The owner was very nice and so was the neighborhood. However the neighborhoods we had to drive thru to get there made me want to turn around and run! We did have a nice time as a family of 3, but would not stay there again. We did not complain and I didn't write the review until a couple months later when I came across the listing again looking for next years vacation spot.
The best thing about this cabin is the lakefront porch, beautiful view of the lake and sunset. While listed as having AC, it only has one window unit in the living room which is off until your arrival. If arriving early enough in the day (and on a day when it's not all that hot) it shouldn't be too much of an issue. We arrived in the evening and it was at least 85 degrees inside and didn't properly cool off till the next day. Also if you want the bedrooms to be cool you have to sleep with the doors open. The kitchen only had 5 large plates so if you have more people than that you will need to bring your own or paper. It also lists that it has a washer and dryer but in the rental agreement folder it states that you are not allowed to use them. There is no beach area although it looks like there is in the photos, and the pond is very murky (which didn't keep my children from swimming). Also wile we were there we discovered the trap on the kitchen sink had a crack in it which allowed all the water to drain out under the sink. My husband called the owner and notified him but he did nothing to solve the problem, so we spent out time there washing dishes in the bathroom sink. It is a beautiful area but our stay at the cottage was disappointing. We will not be returning.
The view of the lake was beautiful. The cottage needs some updates inside. Things like old mismatched linens would be an easy fix. Furniture looks old and out of date and knobs are missing from one dresser. Refrigerator freezer was dirty and blinds were dirty. The beds need new mattresses. The owner could leave extra toilet paper and paper towels. We had to go buy these items. The cottage is not near any restaurants or grocery stores and the surrounding area looks rundown. These are just a few suggestions. We have stayed in cottages and condos from Cape Cod to Key West and Hawaii. This cottage is ok, and very relaxing. If you want to just stay on the lake and relax I it would be ok.
We had a great time here. The cottage was clean and had a wonderful view. We also enjoyed catch and release fishing from the dock. I would recommend staying here.
We rented this cottage so we would have a place to relax while our motorhome was being serviced for a week. We have two dogs and would have had to keep them in our car during the days when we had to be out of the RV. This cottage fit the bill nicely. We had a place we could stretch out and our dogs could lay on their beds and dream. We enjoyed the sunsets each night from the deck. The neighborhood is quiet and was a nice place to walk. The furnishings were comfortable. John was easy to reach and checked on us while we were there. We had a great time exploring this beautiful part of the country and so enjoyed having the cottage to come "home" to each afternoon. We have already referred this cottage to another person in a similar situation to us.
The cottage was clean and well maintained. I was there during a beautiful fall weekend and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'm originally from the area and a few of my friends visited. They were also impressed by the cottage. The owner was easy to work with and everything was as advertised. I would have paid extra for access to a canoe.
