This beautifully decorated cabin is situated on a 400 acre property with 5 miles of trails. Great for family reunions, couples retreats, weekend getaways, honeymoon getaway, or people coming to visit for business. Ten minutes from downtown Dubuque. Fully equipped with outdoor hot tub, air conditioning, microwave, cable TV, gas grills, fire pit, and games. We also have an indoor gas fireplace. About Laura

The Lorelei Cabins have been taking care of guests for 5 years with many return customers. You will find the site to be a relaxing and an awesome way to unwind. The owners take great pride in providing a great experience for all who stay. The property has been privately owed since 1930, and remains isolated and truly in nature, yet a few miles away is downtown Dubuque.

Laura purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Laura chose Iowa

This cabin is beautifully decorated, warm and inviting with a gas fire stove, hot tub, deck with grill, outdoor fire pit and many included amenities. This is a two story cabin, roomy, yet cozy. Everything is provided from sheets to towels, to a fully equipped kitchen with coffee ready to brew. Bring your own food and never leave the area! A great alternative to hotel style getaways. Lots of land to spread out on and explore. Games on site as well as snow shoe equipment to utilize!

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful hiking trails, two fishing ponds, gorgeous Catfish Creek surround a beautifully decorated home to enjoy and relax. There are big decks, and a yard to play games or just lounge around. We ofter see deer and turkey in the hills, and recently saw our first eagle. The wildlife is awesome any season. Sunsets are beautiful. Close to Sundown Ski Resort and Downtown Dubuque.

Mini family vaca

This is the second time my husband and I rented the Aster. The first time was on our anniversary years ago when cabins were first built and no grass around. This time we rented for a weekend along with our adult children and their fiancés' (they rented the other cabin). Beautiful scenery. Very quiet. Our last morning woke up to seeing 5 deer in the backyard early morning. The boys fished in the pond. We had a little bit of problem with the hot water at first, but the proprietors were right on it as soon as we let them know.

2 day get away

  • 5 of 5

I give this place a 5 star plus. I travel often and rent a lot of cabins around the country and this one is great. The owners were wonderful, prompt, helpful and kind. The cabin is very clean and they are very thoughtful to guests. It is mowed and well taken care of, I went on hikes every day on their miles of mowed trails through field and woods. I hiked up a big hill one evening to get a good view of the sunset, and there was a picnic table up there to sit and watch the sun go down. I walked around the pond and found chairs on the other side to relax and enjoy the pond. Table and chairs on the patio, deck, porch and lawn chairs. Big beautiful fire pit with wood ready to use. Everything was excellent! One morning it was raining so I sat in the well maintained hot tub with the water at just the right temperature really enjoying the summer showers. I finally found one thing that was off, the hot tub lift cover was on the wrong side to it blocked the view of the valley. Good to know that they were not perfect. I loved the place and am coming back.

A Perfect Getaway For All Ages

  • 5 of 5

I booked a getaway for my parents at Lorelie Cabins as a Mother/Father's Day gift. My parents were able to relax in clean, comfortable cabin that overlooked the beautiful rolling hills and wooded landscape of the property. The grandkids got in on the action and we fished, went canoing, soaked in the hot tub, explored the trails, grilled out, and spent precious time just reminiscing. We even found time for shopping and dining out in nearby Dubuque

A Great Girls Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

I and four of my high school friends plan a fall get away every year. We chose the Aster/Lorelei Cabins because of the central location for all of us. We loved the cabin and it was perfect for our group. We went into town a couple of times but it was nice just being able to relax, talk and fix a couple of our meals at the cabin. They had firewood ready for us to build a fire which was perfect on a crisp November late afternoon. A couple of us walked the trails which we would like to do again sometime as we ran out of time and didn't get to explore it all. We definitely would like to go back again someday!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your nice review. We have had a number of "girls" who want to "get away"! It's always so fun to see how relaxed and excited these women are to be together! I have met some wonderful women this way, and I look forward to their next visits! Laura

Family/Friends Retreat

  • 4 of 5

My husband grew up in the Dubuque area; we now live in S. C. We recently spent 6 weeks renting this great old farmhouse. It was enough time to spend with all of his friends and family. My family from Illinois visited us there also. The house is very spacious and comfortable. The owners are really wonderful people. The distance away from town is perfect enough to enjoy good old fashioned "retreat" time and yet close enough to run to town for shopping, dining, etc. My brother even said that spending a few days there was like "therapy" to him. Thanks so much, Homestead House!

Owner's Response: I am not sure how this review ended up on the Aster Cabin site! We have a house we rent out for a month or longer and this is where these people were! I enjoyed having this family as they stayed 6 weeks- it felt like I had some neighbors!! Nice people, and nice guests who promised me to come back!

Girls Getaway Weekend

  • 5 of 5

The Homestead was perfect for our girls getaway weekend!

The ranch-style farmhouse is tasteful country decorated--the cow pictures in the kitchen are adoreable.

Furnishings are top quality and oh-so comfortable!

We spent most of our time on the spacious deck with beautiful vistas of the rolling hills,or evenings by the fire. We also wandered along the lush pathways for our morning strolls. I am a Certified Specialist of Wine and write a wine blog. This beautiful, cozy setting was perfect for tasting and writing about wine!

When we wanted more company, the drive into Dubuque took only 10 minutes where we had coffee in our favorite little shop (The Naughty Dog) or a great meal (Manna Java World Cafe).

The Homestead offers the perfect balance between tranquil country living and the bustling choices of the nearby city.
