Truly get away from it all and listen to the creek as you lounge in the hammock. Enjoy your latte on the grand wrap around deck while you hear the float planes come and go. This striking log cabin is an Alaska Style do it yourself getaway: fully furnished kitchen, lavish furniture, internet, jetted tub, sleeps 10-12 including sleeper sofa. Bring your family or your friends! Within minutes to world class fishing, shrimpin, crabbin' and all of Alaskas breath taking beauty. See for yourself.
We are a family of six. We moved to Hollis for work with the forestry industry. We fell in love with Hollis and don't want to let go of the life we enjoy there. This has now become our vacation getaway from it all and we look forward our next adventure there!
Monica Marquess purchased this lodge in 2009
My husband grew up on a large ranch in Oregon. We weren't use to having neighbors. This is one of the few properties available on the island for a large family we could find that had the privacy we needed. Not too mention, a gorgeous home.
Our home is one of the few on the island with all the amenities (your wife and kids would enjoy the toys and luxuries). Two salmon streams within ten minutes, Hollis harbor five minutes, walking distance to the float-plane dock, excellent clamming and crabbing in the bay, awesome hunting for Sitka Black tail deer and black bear. No Griz is comforting for mom's with kids!!!
We stayed here in late september and had a great time. The owners were very attentive via phone and beyond that had appointed a very friendly property manager who was available at any time to help us on site. The cabin felt very spacious, and there was a real sense that you were getting away from it all. We barbecued every night, and caught salmon every day. They had vacuum sealers and a fish cleaning station too. There was even a deer that would stop by and visit in the yard. We had a great time and will savor the memories for years to come. If you are forced to check email while you're in these pristine surroundings, i can assure you the internet was fast (especially for Prince of Wales).
Important facts that are missing from description of cabin. There is NO BATHROOM DOOR in upstairs bathroom. This means if someone else in your party wants to use the bathroom off this bedroom they just have to walk into your bedroom. Yes they will be quite visible to you and there is no fan in that bathroom. The stairs going up to 2 bedrooms are steep and have no railing. The room with bunk beds has 2 mattresses that badly need to be replaced due to wear and appearance as they are badly stained. The full bed listed for one room not standard length but shorter and with it's head and footboard you may be sleeping sideways. There were many cleanliness issues but owner states it was new housecleaner so hopefully this will not be a issue again. Needs more dishes, salad spinner, vegetable steamer and a good housecleaner.
The house was perfectly sized for our party (6 adults, 5 kids)! I appreciated the fact that there was every video game console and movie available, we decided to never turn any of that on! There was plenty of games and activities for us to do in between our adventures around Prince of Wales Island.
The cabin is beautiful, the house is spacious and the amenities where great (washer dryer, vacuum packer, crab pot, etc). The wood in the cabin was beautiful and the rustic decor was perfect for the setting!
I would fully recommend a stay here!
You will find everything you need for a comfortable vacation home away from home! If you're looking for a place that will comfortably and affordably accommodate your whole family while you enjoy a true Alaskan experience, this place is perfect for you. It has a full kitchen with everything you will need, 2 bathrooms, laundry, and plenty of beds and space for everyone. There are lots of toys for kids, but they probably won't even notice since there is so much fun to be had outside where they can get as dirty as they want enjoying nature. Easy access to great fishing and hunting spots and authentic Native Alaskan culture, but far enough away from tourists to really get away from reality. My husband and I both lived in Southeast Alaska for years and have spent 3 summers at a lodge after moving to the lower 48, but our stay at the Sleep Inn Alaska gave us the opportunity to really show our son what Alaska is all about! We will be back and recommend it to everyone we know who is considering visiting Alaska.
This was the best trip I have ever been on. World class fishing and the cabin is centrally located. Cabin was clean and came equipped with freezers making processing and storing fish easy. I will be back and strongly recommend staying here.
