My name is Jim Massey. I am a Civil Engineer, General Contractor, and Real Estate Broker, born in Winston-Salem. I came to Roaring Gap in 1965 where I met and married my wife, Nancy. She is a registered nurse with a specialty in surgery in Elkin and my partner in the real estate and construction business. WE ARE NEW TO THE RENTAL BUSINESS AND WILL NEGOITATE OUR RATES BASED ON NUMBER OF NIGHTS AND NUMBER OF PEOPLE STAYING. WE WILL ALSO TALK TO YOU ABOUT YOUR BRINGING A PET.
Jim Massey purchased this chalet in 1998
My company designed and built this house at about half its present size in 1966 for a couple from Winston-Salem. Years later we built them a bigger home two houses up the street, and sold this house to a couple from Florida. When it became available again in 1998, Nancy and I bought it because all the really good view lots had been built on and we had always dreamed of living on one of the spectacular view properties on Ridge Road. We gutted it down to the bare framing, doubled its size and built it all over again, finishing in 2000. We lived here for 10 years and then moved into a new home across the street in Olde Beau. Ultravista is presently for sale, but will not be shown when there is a guest in the house. LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR HOME BY VIEWING OUR MORE THAN 50 FIVE STAR REVIEWS!
Having designed and built almost all the view homes on Ridge Road, Nancy and I knew that the view was good, but didn't know it was spectacular until we lived there. I didn't know that sunrises sometimes are as beautiful as the best sunset. Also, I had no idea that a full moon could be so brilliantly exciting. Watching lightning storms in the valley from up here is really special. So are fireworks in valley communities on July 4th. When the fog is lying in the valley, the mountain tops look like islands in a cotton sea. And every night when the lights come on down below, called 'valley stars' by locals, it looks like a large city. The view is different every day.
Jim,Thank you again for your gracious hospitality. We truly enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful time. Everyone had nothing but good comments about the house, location and of course the beautiful view. I think we spent as much time on the deck as we could regardless of the weather!!! It was a perfect place for us!It was a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to seeing you again in the not to distant future.Kind regards,Bobby
Our family of 14 spent the week between Christmas and New Years at this lovely property. Two things make this property unique: the home is large and on 3 levels, providing space for privacy as well as plenty of comfortable room for groups to be together;
And the views are spectacular. Sunrises as well as sunsets are visible, and mountain vistas are all that can be seen from the back of the house. Absolutely stunning!
Jim was a wonderful host and delightful to work with.
We enjoyed our Thanksgiving Holiday stay at this spacious mountain home. Pictures do not do the home justice. Amazing! The pantry and kitchen were very well stocked. Plenty of room for our family of 14. Located in a neighborhood but looking out all the windows across the back of the house you have the feeling of being secluded in the mountains. Beautiful views of sunrise and sunset. Mr. Massey was wonderful to work with.
We're a group of lifelong friends. Each year we get together for a long weekend of fun, conversation, visiting local sights and catching up on everyone's family. We stayed in Jim's house last year in the Spring. This year, we got together in late Fall. Jim's house is a great place with a million dollar view, plenty of bedrooms and baths, a large den and dining large enough for eight comfortably. It's located near Mount Airy, home of Andy Griffith, and several nice wineries. The house feels like home. If is the perfect place for a group of friends or a large family. The neighborhood is great and it is located near interstates and several neat towns. We highly recommend visiting here soon and often.
Wonderful home, wonderful view! Only stayed for a weekend, however we will be back. Owner has thought of many details, making it an easy arrival, easy departure and of course a relaxing stay in between.
We're always looking for a house that accommodates our family of 8 adults and 6 children aged 2-10. We hit a home run with this find. Beautiful, south-facing views of the NC Foothills in a well-stocked home with everything you need and then some. Proximity to Stone Mountain State Park and local offerings make it even better for quick, daytime excursions (always interesting with this many people).
This house feels like a home from the moment you walk in, making the ease into vacation mode that much easier. The owners have a "use what you need" and pay it forward approach to renting, which means common household items are on hand.
As with any rental I always recommend bringing a quality kitchen knife or two and your own pillows. Although plenty of knives and pillows, nothing really comes close to those items from home for prepping and sleeping...two high points on my list for any trip.
To close I'll say this...in our comprehensive search for homes in the NC mountains,
this house is a find when it comes to value and accommodations, occupying a sweet spot I've only found with a few other properties.
I was bringing family and friends together for my son's wedding and needed a venue that could host three families with small children plus adults- a place that could offer some privacy yet entertain all ages. This was THE right place. From the family suites to the ping pong table to the relaxing deck, it could not have been better. When my four year old grandson discovered the tile garage with a kid's size basketball hoop, he was in heaven. We had a terrific time and much was due to the superb lodging that is designed to facilitate comfort and fun for all ages.
