Very nice house and perfect for our stay near Yosemite.

  • 4 of 5

The house is very nice. Drive to Yosemite Valley is about an hour away, so we spent two full days in the park and not as much time at the house as we would of liked.

Tidy, roomy, well-appointed

  • 4 of 5

There is a lot of shoulder room in this house and it is well-lit by the windows and skylights. The Ponderosa House is kept in very good condition. The bedrooms have electric heaters and the living room a gas fireplace. In mid-April we stayed quite warm and comfortable with them working. We enjoyed the secluded hot tub after hiking all day in Yosemite Park. The neighborhood is quiet and has a "country" character. As folks who are off the main drag will, some of the neighbors let certain aspects of their property "go". That did not, in the least, impact adversely our stay. Rather, it added an certain "easy-comfort" to the feel of the area (as did the just-distant-enough crowing roosters).

There is no access to the bathroom except through either of the two adjoining bedrooms. My family of four did not have a problem with that. It was very handy to have the laundry appliances available in the house. The bottle of wine waiting for us when we first got to the house was wonderful.

Mariposa is within 10 minutes and we bought food there in a well-stocked grocery. To prepare for the drive to Somoma County on our last day in Midpines we bought and used $20 day-passes to Mountain Fitness center in Mariposa. Great place for such a small town! If you want to meet folks from all over the world, visit the Yosemite Bug -a hostel with restaurant which is on Hwy 140 just a few miles away from the Ponderosa House on the way to Yosemite.

Lovely retreat

  • 4 of 5

Renea's home was a restful retreat after a long day in Yosemite. It's nice knowing that Renea lives nearby in case there are any issues with the house. We loved the hot tub and large kitchen. It was cold while we there (30's at night), so it does take a while for the house to warm up with the portable electric heaters, but it does eventually get warm. Bring warm pajamas and slippers for the cold mornings if you don't want the heat running during the night, which we didn't. The multiple windows contribute to the cold drafts, but the light and airy feeling are worth it. I had not been to Yosemite in over 20 years and was surprised by the one hour+ wait in a car line to get into the park, so I recommend getting there early, especially on the weekends to avoid long car lines waiting to get into the park. It's also harder to find parking the longer you wait. It's about a 45 minute drive to the nearest park entrance (if there are no lines), but it's a scenic drive. With all of the snow they have gotten this year, the falls were beautiful.

Wonderful Yosemite Getaway.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful family getaway at the Ponderosa House. The house is beautiful and had all the amenities that my family needed and was looking for. My mom and children loved the tranquil backyard and the quiet was just heaven. And the drive to the El Portal entrance of Yosemite was a beautiful, quiet drive and a lot closer than we expected.Thank you.
