Great hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

Really enjoyed this house off the beaten path. Close enough to Yosemite and Mariposa but still had the feeling of being "disconnected" which is what we were hoping for. Kitchen is beautiful and well stocked, bedrooms are great, and the outdoor area was perfection. Step daughter really enjoyed watching the fish in the small pond. Owners were quick to respond to questions about operating appliances. Will stay again if back in the area!

Ponderosa review

  • 5 of 5

Four of us using all three bedrooms stayed three nights at the very clean, very comfortable Ponderosa House during the third week of June 2017.

The kitchen is easily spacious enough and stocked with a full set of pans and utensils one would need to cook even a large meal. The gas grill outside is very useful too.

The two vegetarians and two omnivores among us easily combined efforts to cook two breakfasts prior to leaving early for Yosemite, and three delightful dinners, one after our initial arrival in the early evening and two after returning from the park, about an hour's drive each way.

In the evening, we relaxed and conversed while sitting or reclining on the very comfortable leather sofas. The art on the walls and room decorations add to the feeling that one is indeed at home.

Although the temperature reached 100 degrees those days, shade keeps the interior heat of the home low enough so the window air conditioners are quickly effective upon returning from a day at Yosemite.

Twice I sat on the front porch as the sun set, enjoying a glass of red wine while listening to the fading birdsong and taking in the fragrance of the myriad plants all around me. Later at night, we stepped outside to view the stars, so bright compared with city views of stars.

Introducing my daughters to Yosemite while the waterfalls are bursting was a bucket list thing for me. Staying at the Ponderosa House made this trip better than I could have possibly imagined.

In the past I've stayed at Yosemite Lodge inside the valley. From now on, I'll seek to stay at the Ponderosa House when going to Yosemite.

Peace, privacy and comfort outweigh the convenience and constant activity that comes with staying in the valley.

The hour drive each way is well worth the experience, especially for those with particular diets who prefer to prepare their own food.

I highly recommend the Ponderosa House to all readers of this post.

We had a wonderful time staying at your house. It was our family's first time to Yosemite and staying here made the trip even more memorable. Beautiful, clean kitchen with a lot of counter space and living area. We enjoyed listening to the birds in the birdhouse outside, the hot tub and sitting among the wildflowers outside. Our kids loved the game closet too. The bottle of wine was a nice welcome, thank you!

awesome homebase to Yosemite!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Ponderosa House. Getting in and out of Yosemite was easy (about ~1 hr drive during weekdays) and the scenic drive along the Merced River was great. The house gets amazing amount of natural light, which helps you to wake up and brighten your mood -- we often had to double check to make sure that lights were not on (that's how bright it would get!). The rooms were clean and spacious, and the kitchen was just AMAZING. We brought some basic condiments and seasoning (i.e. oil, salt, & pepper) but there are some leftover condiments from previous people that we also helped ourselves to. Although we did not get to use the hot tub, we certainly wish that we could've used it! We are definitely planning on staying here the next time we come to Yosemite!
