Water has sandy bottom and slopes very gradually for about a half mile until reaching an overhead depth. Perfect for small children. About Owner/Property Manager
Blaine Newhouse We are a family of 6 who enjoy living in Holland Michigan - especially beautiful Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan. We delight in hearing stories of how much people enjoy our home and the peaceful setting.
Owner/Property Manager purchased this House in 2012
Why Owner/Property Manager chose Holland
We purchased our home because of it's location on Lake Macatawa in close proximity to Lake Michigan. We were also attracted to the peaceful neighborhood with lots of mature oak trees as well as the double lot offering lots of space for recreation and privacy. The homes character, ample size and history were also something we found attractive.
What makes this House unique
We love the fact that Lake Macatawa and Lake Michigan are available to us. We also enjoy the space of two lots - very uncommon in Lake front living. The fact that the home was both a classic cottage with knotty pine and field stone fireplace AND newly expanded and updated was a huge plus for us. The home has lot of character. We especially enjoy exercise - so walks to the Holland Pier or riding our bikes along Lake Shore Drive is something we often do. We were also looking for a water front home with a sandy beach and sandy lake bottom. This together with the gentle slope of the lake allows for kids of all ages to play in the water with far less parental concern.

perfect for our large family
We really enjoyed our stay. The owner was quick to respond and very gracious. It provided lots of space for our time visiting with family in the area and also for our own large family. It has great views and is well equipped. The home's location allows for nice walks through the neighborhood and is close to Lake Michigan . We would definitely stay at this home again.
Perfect, Perfect, Perfect! There was 7 of us staying at the house. Very large open, comfortable, clean, you will feel like you are at home. Owner very good, responded to a question within five minutes after texting. We hope to stay again, during warmer weather to use the lake.
Also, very close to downtown Holland which is nothing that I thought it would be. Reminds me of Traverse City. Highly recommended.
Perfect Getaway in a Lovely Home
You know that feeling when you walk into a place you have booked and find that it is even more spectacular than you had imagined, more so than the pictures showed? That is what happened here at the Big Bay House. We five gathered for a writers' retreat, and we spent a long weekend here, each of us enjoying plenty of space to work, and stunning views of Lake Macatawa, a pair of herons swooping and strolling; birds, birds and more birds; squirrels and rabbits and creatures enjoying the early fall. Even on the rainy (good writing) days, the view was no less interesting. Vibrant sunrises and moonlight over the lake book-ended our days. And inside! So cute and comfortable, and perfectly arranged so we could gather in the kitchen and dining space to make and share meals in the well-appointed spaces. An extra bonus is the close proximity of the Lake Michigan beach park and its wide and wild vistas. We are already planning our return! PS- the hosts were very welcoming and were available and responsive to our questions. Thanks to you, Blaine and Kathleen!
This was our second time staying at Lake Macatawa, and we will be back next year!
Lovely setting, spacious yard. The water is shallow to the end of the dock, which is safe for small children. It is just a mile from Lake Michigan at Holland State Park. Large groups are not allowed.
Wonderful home to stay in for vacation, close to everything including Lake Michigan !!!
Fabulous choice for a family vacation. There is lot's of room in the home, a very large shaded lot, beach for younger children to play. The water slopes gently out which is good for us since we do have smaller grandchildren and also makes for warmer water. Lake Macatawa goes out into Lake Michigan only a very short drive (if Michigan resident purchase State Sticker when renewing your license tabs, it will save you lots of time entering the State Parks. Holland is a lovely, friendly town with great people! The owners are great and will provide anything you need or take care of any problem you have. Since we go in the summertime the weather has always been great ! There is a laundry room in the house if you want to wash the beach towels, etc. We use the home for a family get together for grandparents with children and grandchildren so the house is perfect for that. Eventhough we do not live that far apart it is sometimes hard for everyone to get together due to the various activities that everyone is in. Every year we run out of time to do the things we planned.. Even the grandchildren say "how did that week go by so fast"? I do not think you will find a larger vacation home and beach in the area!
Beautiful location with many activities nearby
Enjoyed our time! Thank you for sharing your home with us. Only improvement would have been a gas grill.
Holland is located in western Michigan - known for Dutch ancestory and the Tulip Festival each spring (second largest festival in the nation). Our home is situated on two lots providing ample space for recreation and solitude. The neighborhood is filled with an abundance of mature oak trees offering welcome shade from the summer sun. Our home is approximately 1 mile from the entrance to Holland State Park and the shores of Lake Michigan. Holland is a mid sized town - 10 miles to city center by car or bike. The city has a charming down town with many specialty shops and restaurants. Bike paths are plentiful and make for ease of walking, biking or roller blade.
