Overview

About the property

Our Pelee house was built in the early 20th century by a ship's captain who chose a nice spot--a treed lot that sits above lake level and offers sweeping views--and built a sturdy, light-filled cottage with views of the lake from almost every room. The cottage sits on the lakefront of Pelee's North Bay, with nine acres of bird-filled old growth forest at the property's rear. Feel Free to explore!

Two large decks have plenty of seating facing the lake. Inside, the living room has two large picture windows for viewing Pelee's light show sunrises and sunsets, a 42-inch flatscreen TV, a stone fireplace, and plenty of comfortable seating. The new owner of the property is a librarian, so there is also a rotating collection of newer books and DVDs.

We're located right in the center of Pelee's North Shore. Conorlee's Bakery, the Pelee Co-Op Grocery Store, The Anchor and Wheel Inn, Scudder Bar and Grill, and the Filling Station restaurant are all within walking distance.

About Travis & Laurie

We purchased our Pelee house in 2015, the year before our daughter Pearle (pictured) arrived on the scene. Walking into this property for the first time--even though we purchased it in an extreme state of disrepair--was a true moment of "love at first sight" for both of us. Standing in the living room and looking out at the grass and the trees and the lake, we couldn't help but think that some things are more important than sanity and money, so we we made a bold decision to buy the house and never look back. Renovating the house over the last two years has been a labor of love, and we're excited to share our efforts with you. We hope that when you walk in, you get that same feeling we had the first time, and that you can feel the love and care we put into making it a home.

Nicely renovated, well appointed cottage

  • 5 of 5

Starts you off with a welcome basket of a bottle of Pelee wine, Starbucks coffee and gormet treats like fig newtons and yummy cookies.

The kitchen is well appointed with everything anyone could need. The dishes, pots, utensils , appliances - they are all up scale., not cottage crap.

There is a vast video collection, books and music also.

The living room has 2 dangerously comfortable couches (pared with the video collection ....)

The beds are so comfy, very nice sheets and blankets. Actually, ALL of the furniture is extremely comfortable.

Lots of attention to detail here; soap provided, all kitchen necessities (sponge, rags, cleaners ,...)

Towels, TP, bedding

Nice shaded deck at the waters edge with comfy cushioned chairs.

The location couldn't be better ! I've been vacationing at Pelee for 20 years. North Shore Road is the only place we like to rent ; great beaches ( usually but not this year ) minimal snakes, no Mosquitos, walk to scudder, marina, grocery, bakery, and best of all - the sunsets !

I think I've rented everything rentable on this road - this one is by far the best !!

The cons : lots of dog hair !There is carpeting in much of the cottage, it's new and upscale but it's hard to get the dog hair out. The cottage does have the slight smell of dog. We don't have pets and I'm very allergic to dogs so we are particularly sensitive. The cottage was clean when we arrived but I did another deep clean. I vacuumed and swept up what looked like 2 small dogs. And There was still dog hair and that slight odour. ( again probably because of my allergies I was so sensitive )

The AC set up isn't really adequate. Presently only 2 of the 4 bedrooms has AC. and they suggest leaving bedroom doors open for the AC to travel to the other rooms.

It's probably good enough for most people, but I love AC after a day in the sun, especially at night for sleeping. The 2 units they have however are new and powerful.

With saying that, If you are looking to spend some time in this dreamy island getaway, this is probably one of the best cottages for rental on the entire island.

Well done !!

Very nice craftsman cottage with lake views.

  • 5 of 5

We spent our first visit to Pelee Island in this great little house. The house sits on the sheltered cove in the North of the island with a big front yard facing the lake. Minutes from the best and only bakery in the island as well as the sole grocery, so it was a very peaceful and convenient location for our exploration.

We had a warm week, so it was very nice to be able to have 3 air conditioned bedrooms. Since the dining options in the island are limited it is very nice to have a well appointed kitchen and dining area. We also brought a portable charcoal grill to expand the menu until the house gets a grill. There is an excellent Fire ring in the front yard that could also be another cooking option for those who enjoy campfire cooking. We really enjoyed the pour over coffee maker, but there is a conventional drop for you if you prefer it.

The living room has two comfortable couches, a Bose wave radio and CD, and DVD and HD antenna which gets at least 20 channels most all the day on a njce flat panel TV.

The owners have really tried to maintain the character of an original craftsman bungalo in their thoughtful renovation. The nice antiques in the living areas contribute to the overall authenticity of the decor.

The decks in both the front and side of the house as well as a cafe table on the rear porch adds a lot of versatility.

Overall a very nice property. We spent most days with our kids swimming at the more northern of the two public beaches on the East side of the island. Very shallow swimming with a nice sandbar, and good for escaping the prevailing westerly winds The good thing about an island is you can change your activities to find shelter from wind driven waves when things get too rough.

We had a great week and hope to return!

Lovely, peaceful, comfortable home on the water

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay on Pelee enormously, focused on appreciating the view and access to the water from the house. Sitting at the table for meals-a view of sky and water. Stretched out on the comfortable couches reading, looking up to the view. Sitting outside on whichever porch corresponded to the sun's current position, laughing, playing, sipping coffee, appreciating the view.

It was great to be able to swim whenever the desire struck, right there from the house, or hop on bikes to easily access and explore the other beaches on the island.

The house felt spacious and truly comfortable.

The beds were supportive.

It was easy to cook in the simple but adequately outfitted kitchen.

The design was clean and left room for us to create our own spaces for the week.

The books and movies were delightfully curated-we enjoyed everything we read and watched.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful place.
