I am from Athens and have been living in London for the last 12year. I teach Yoga and Pilates in London and I run and organise Yoga/Pilates retreats in Greece including Porto Boufalo.
I have been spending every single summer of my life, a lot of time, at Porto Boufalo. As it is the only place that I can completely relax right by the sea and collect some sun shine which I very much miss in London.
Katerina Ioannou purchased this cottage in 30
The property was originally build on my grandfather's land by my parents. They have loved the place and have carefully designed and decorated it with their own personal taste and art work. The unique bamboo ceiling is an example of my father's art work.
Porto Boufalo and the house have a calming energy that is easy to fall in love with and makes people to want to come back.
You can arrange for a private yoga retreat being organised and taught by Katerina. For more info: www.yogaloom.com/retreats
The owners of the cottage will offer you the typical warm Greek hospitality and they will make you feel like home from the very first moment! There will be a welcome hamper with goods (wine, nuts and Greek ouzo).
There will also be a light breakfast including tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, honey, milk, butter, marmalades, toast, still water, fruits, orange juice and home made cake.
As the beach is in-front of the house, the house is very easily accessible, very safe and easy for children. The water of the sea is shallow to start and calm. It's also very comfortable because you do not need to carry anything with you as the Villa is just there! You can come out of the sea and take a shower at the garden.
There are 3 more beaches very near the Villa: 'Vouvo' 3mins drive from the Villa and another beach with sand and little pebbles called 'Sykies to Yerou' 5mins drive from the Villa and also 'Kamary' beach 10 mins drive from the Villa with pebbles on the beach and sand in theturquise water. Three of these beaches are extremely quiet and beautiful!!! All of the beaches incl the one in-front of the house have shallow water to start and the water is mostly calm ideal for swimming.
At Boufalo you have also special services: greengrocers' van comes twice a week with fresh vegetables and fruits and 6 times per week two bakers' van come with groceries/milk (handmade bread, pastries, biscuits etc) coming right to your door!
Porto Boufalo is not touristic which make it the best tranquil destination.
(while staying at the house) ''We feel so lucky to be staying in your lovely house. So many personal things really make it a home for us too. And thank you all for the welcoming wine, ouzo, fruit and everything - that was appreciated.''
Fantastic property and lovely family running it.
They could not have been more friendly or helpful and we had a wonderful holiday. So relaxing and peaceful and beautiful!
We will be back!
What a great week we had! Getting from the house into crystal clear water within seconds is a real treat. With no big hotels around and three authentic tavernas in the harbour around the corner this is a perfect place for getting away from everything. Don't expect to write postcards: there are none!
For shopping, the baker and vegetable men come every day by van and major supermarkets are 20min away in Aliveri.
The house is very comfortable and shown in the pictures exactly as we found it. Finding fresh fruit and all essentials in the fridge including freshly baked cake was a particular treat.
Wow! What a wonderful secret spot in Greece! The location of this house is just the best, it really does have the sea at the end of the garden and the water is clean, clear and warm in a large, safe shallow bay. Fantastic! The village is small and quiet even in August. A selection of camper vans stayed for the night now and then close by but it was still quiet. The restaurants are authentically Greek and haven't been spoiled by tourists! Loved them. As for the house, spotlessly clean and very well provided. Maria and Aspasia met us (with a home baked cake, how nice is that?) with a welcome pack. The rooms are clean, sheets changed in our two week stay and cleaned thoroughly twice! The owners are so proud, rightly so of this house. It's Greek in character, comfortable in a stunning location. A car is essential to get out and about should you feel you need to. In fact the beaches we drove to were quite busy and we preferred to get back to Boufalo! The daily vegetable and bakery van does mean that you do have food without driving out of the village to the nearest shop too often. It's a great place for playing in the water, reading and relaxing. To improve the house I would suggest updating the shower facilities, a minor thing when there's swimming to be done! Thank you so much for a lovely holiday.
The cottage is beautiful, well equipped just as described and in a stunning location. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived and was cleaned and the linen changed half way through our stay (though we were only there for 6 days). The provisions that had been left for us proved invaluable for our Sunday arrival. All contact with the owners was efficient and helpful, and our neighbour Aspasia was a charming host. She was kind and solicitous throughout (though never intrusive), including baking a wonderful cake for our arrival and giving us a lovely souvenir of our visit. Rarely have we felt so genuinely welcomed to a holiday rental, Aspasia clearly enjoys helping ensure guests enjoy their stay. The village is an incredibly peaceful spot, a truly unspoiled Greek fishing village. We only managed to try one of the tavernas in the village (the one nearest the cottage)... it was so exceptionally good that we couldn't bear to eat anywhere else! We took full advantage of being right by the sea, swimming every day and making use of the paddleboard which we enjoyed having at our disposal. We also loved being able to sleep with the door to the balcony open to enjoy the fresh sea air. Fly screens on all windows and doors make it possible to do this without being bothered by mosquitoes. Despite being well off the beaten track the village has easy access to all of the sights of South and Central Evia and we enjoyed a couple of days of hiking. We would recommend the cottage to anyone seeking peace and the experience of getting away from the tourist trail in Greece.
Very warm welcome and a very pleasant stay! We enjoyed our holidays in the very clean and nice house with a characteristic greek atmosphere. Well equipped kitchen. Terrace view on the sea is great with green garden in front.
Maria, Katherina and Aspasia are very helpfull.
Village Porto Buffalo is really calm, one friendly tavern, thats it! (baker and manavis come by car).
We will return hopefully soon to this lonely paradise.
This is obviously a much loved home and Aspasia certainly made us feel very welcome there, generously leaving lots of provisions, toys and maps so that we could enjoy this rural area of Greece. The sea was beautifully clear and warm and our three small boys loved playing on the paddle board, snorkelling and swimming in the safe water just outside the house. The village is friendly and although you need to travel by car for your shopping, the baker and grocer do deliver. The weather at the end of October was lovely and warm and we travelled to a couple of local beaches and to the south of Evia for walking and exploring further afield.

Porto Boufalo is a very small picturesque fisherman's village on the island of Evia. It is approached by a downhill country road and from the top of the mountain the views of this marvellous natural harbour are breathtaking.
Boufalo has a little port and a small beach in a beautifull gulf that keeps the waters of the sea always calm, perfect for swimming. It is located 10-15min by car or craft to 3 private beautiful beaches. It has 3 fish tavernas at the water's edge and this is the perfect place to sit and enjoy an ouzo and fresh local sea food while the sun goes down. There you can also buy fresh seafood every day if you prefer cooking. It has very easy access for day tours to explore the natural beuties of Evia. The nearest shopping facilities are in Argiro (5min drive) and at Zarakes and Krieza (15 min drive).
Boufalo is just 2hours and 15min drive from Athens and it is not a busy touristic place. There you can find true peacefulness. It is the best place to recharge and rest!
