The Cedar, log cabin (circa 1947) was remodeled down to the exterior logs in 2016. Overlooking Lake Vallecito and the San Juan Mountains, this studio, vacation rental offers a fresh, new cabin inside. Lakefront access is a short, 500 foot walk away. During the summer enjoy, boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, relaxing and exploring. In the fall, come and experience the spectacular fall colors. Our lakefront is not accessible during the winter months.
The Cedar log cabin is a two story, 540 square feet, open floor plan vacation rental. It includes 1 queen, 1 king, and 1 floor mat. There is a full kitchen with utensils, cookware, ice maker and new appliances. There is also a full sized washer and dryer; Apple TV and a VHS/DVD player.
A custom, spiral staircase leads up to an open loft overlooking the combination living, dining, and full kitchen. A pillow top king bed for the parents takes up most of the loft. A cozy, out of the way, sleeping nook with a foam floor mat in the loft is waiting for one small child. A new queen sofa/sleeper offers a comfortable night’s sleep down below on the first floor.
Start your day enjoying a cup of coffee gazing at the shimmering lake from the porch swing while the kids sleep in and the fishermen cast their lines down at the lakeshore in search of kokanee salmon, rainbow and brown trout, northern pike, walleye, smallmouth bass, or yellow perch.
Prepare the catch of the day with friends and family in the fully equipped modern kitchen. Enjoy your meal at the dining table inside or enjoy it al fresco at the picnic table outside with lake and mountain views during the summer.
End your day with a glass of your favorite wine and a view of the sunset as the rhythmic sound of the porch swing rocks your cares away. After the sun goes down, spend an evening inside indulging in popcorn and a movie on the flat-screen TV. Or, re-experience your photo/video adventures of the day using the Apple TV.
History abounds in Vallecito which was once the hunting and gathering grounds for the Southern Ute Indians before the reservoir was built in 1941. Activities on Lake Vallecito and in the San Juan National Forest are varied depending on the season and your desire for adventure.
Take a scenic, 25-mile drive around the lake or drive up Middle Mountain to witness breathtaking vistas. Bring your fishing pole and your boat and launch in the Vallecito Marina (Memorial Day through Labor Day) --½ a mile walk or drive away. Or, if you like, you can rent a kayak or canoe from us or at the marina. The marina offers, motorized and non-motorized boats for rent. Experience a popular day hike at the Vallecito Creek Trail just 6 miles from the cabin. Or, visit the quaint town of Durango or bathe in the historic hot springs in Pagosa Springs.
For a special treat, plan to attend Music in the Mountains, a classical music festival that happens every July at Purgatory Resort. The stupendous fall colors are not to be missed in the fall when the busy summer season winds down.
Refuel with a laid back breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of the local restaurants a short walk or drive away. Pick up your groceries as you pass through Durango or Pagasa Springs if you plan on cooking in. Or, for last minute items, check out the Vallecito Country Market or the Rocky Mountain General Store. For something special, the Country Market offers a variety of homemade fudge and the General Store makes their own Elk jerky and sausage.
