Angostura Lake is approximately 1 mile x 6 miles long at the base of the Black Hills.   It is considered by most Black Hills residents to be the number one lake in terms of:   large beaches (including beach volleyball and a new beach grill/restaurant called Inferno), warmest water, new two-mile bike bath and general lake recreational opportunities.   While there many lodge options in the Black Hills, now there's a great and new “lake place” option available!  Angostura Lake House can accommodate up to 16 people.  More friends could stay with the large RV pad option featuring a 50 amp hookup (see extra cost)..

Close to the water... only 250 yards to the beach!   Your family will enjoy what is believed by many to be the only  rental-cabin “lake property” in the Black Hills!    This brand-new 24’ x 48’ custom built lake home, constructed in 2017, features five bedrooms, with one of the bedrooms being a 12 x 23 loft  and two baths. Two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, are on the main floor. The loft area has two sets of bunk beds to sleep four or more people with an additional futon present.  The two lower bedrooms sleep five, with a queen sized bed in one and bunk beds in the other. The cabin has a custom spiral staircase, granite counter tops, propane fire pit overlooking the lake & park, covered 14' deck, large 65" screen TV, horseshoe pit,  19' cathedral ceilings and comfortable furnishings.  Your family will enjoy relaxing and unwinding with the lovely views of the hills and the lake!  The property is on a large 2.5 acres site with Angostura State Park bordering on two sides. The long sandy beaches and waterfront are very close by.  You can walk there directly or drive to the various beach/dock areas.  Feel free to feel the wind in your hair on the four  “beach cruiser” style bikes on the new four-mile beach-front bike path constructed by SD state park system is located near the lake, within site of the cabin. You'll enjoy experiencing the clean air, multiple beaches, views of the lake to the south and the beautiful Black Hills to the west!

Convenient Location:   The home is located at the “Long’s Area” on the conveniently-accessed east side of Angostura Lake.  It's only about two miles off Highway 79, heading south from Angostura Den.   Horse Head Campground is just across the road from the Cabin.  13391 Sunny Slope Road’s 50 amp hookup for any size RV is available at an added cost of $75 per night per RV. There is ample parking on the 2.5 acre site for your boat and vehicles.

The Custom Built Cabin is a short 15 minute drive to Hot Springs SD and approximately a 30 minute drive to Custer State Park, with Mount Rushmore not far from there.  Your family will love seeing the Black Hills from this wonderful location!

Wish We Could've Stayed Longer!

  • 5 of 5

The house is very nice and we didn't want for anything - except WiFi. (There is a big Apple TV, but no WiFi) Anyway, we had a great stay and enjoyed the roomy, comfortable place with a lovely deck. Had every bed full. Would return!

Beautiful home and perfect for a family reunion!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our time at this beautiful home! It was the perfect size for everyone in our group which included 6 adults and 10 children. The adults loved sitting on the deck every morning and evening watching the deer come out to eat. The kids loved exploring of the area, game time in the loft area and spending time at the lake using the kayaks and paddle board. The owner answered any questions that we had during our stay in a very timely manner and was very accommodating. I would recommend this home to family and friends. Great location, great home and great owners!

Family Gathering Dec 2017

  • 4 of 5

Family members from ND and CO met here to spend a few days together. The cabin is beautiful and slept 15 people very comfortably. The layout is great! Plenty of blankets, bedding and towels for everyone. The views were amazing off the deck and the fire pit was a really nice size! Unfortunately, it was far too cold to spend too much time out there. We were able to take some nice family photos, though. :)

Short drive into Hot Springs (10-15 min) to enjoy swimming and some last minute grocery items.

Only 2 small issues that kept me from giving 5 stars. There wasn't an oven (which is needed more in the winter months vs summer) so had to change up some of our planned meals. There weren't enough plates, bowls and forks for everyone to eat at the same time so grabbed some disposables. There is a dishwasher - which is amazingly quiet - so that was definitely a bonus.

We had a question during our stay and Bobby returned our call within a few minutes. He was very nice and accommodating!

Overall, it was a great cabin that fit our needs well.

My husband and I spent 4 days at the cabin with our adult children and grandchildren.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is new and not everything finished yet, but very nice in a beautiful setting with wildlife all around the property. There is the lake within walking distance and our little grandson caught his first fish there! He was ecstatic. He is 2 and 1/2 and loved casting his line with only a bobber on the end most of the time. Was great to have meals together and visit on the large deck or inside. The grill out on the deck was great. There is a gas fire pit, but was too hot for that when we were there. Was very nice and will be even better as things are completed! Would recommend for an enjoyable time out in nature near the lake with the comforts and air conditioning of home and near enough to many of the beautiful attractions of the Black Hills!! Angostura is a gorgeous many people's favorite lake in the Black Hills!!  Your family will love it here!  This  New Custom Cabin/House borders State Park land and is likely the closest to the water that you will find, at about 250 yards to the beach and bike bath. It has the warmest waters and most beaches of any lake within hundreds of miles.

Angostura   -   Trip Advisor (4.5 with 50 Reviews as of this writing):

From Angostura State Park Website:

Angostura Reservoir is a water-lover's haven with breathtaking, scenic views. Offering crystal clear waters, 36 miles of shoreline, and some of the finest sandy beaches in the state, the area boasts many water sports and summer fun activities - camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. Its strong fishery is well known for its walleye, smallmouth bass, crappie, and also supports northern pike, largemouth bass, perch and bluegill.

The word "angostura" is Spanish for "narrows."  Angostura is one of the few large reservoirs in western South Dakota. The dam was built in 1949 by the Bureau of Reclamation across the Cheyenne River for irrigation purposes. The average depth of this reservoir is 29 feet and the deepest portion of the pool is 75 feet deep when full. The lake's average summer temperature is 66 degrees F.

Nearby Hot Springs is a quaint and lovely small Black Hills town featuring:

Famous Mammoth Site  [][1]

Wooly's Restaurant and Brewery (below): Our favorite! Great food. Great reviews. Near Mammoth Site.

Famous Evan's Plunge Indoor Hot Springs Swimming Pool :  "Healing waters" considered by many due to special mineral content;  Indian tribes enjoyed these waters for centuries it is said;  water refreshes several times per day naturally  (Naturally-Heated) [][1]

Historic Sandstone Buildings and Walking Trails; Waterfall(s)

Unique Local Restaurants  - Also Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, Taco John's etc.   Great restaurants on Main St.  Great breakfast.  We are still learning about the local great places to eat.
