About Veronique Despreaux
We are both architects and divide our time each year between London and the Haute Savoie
Veronique Despreaux purchased this Apartment in 1998
Why Veronique Despreaux chose Morillon
We fell in love with the old farm sitting in its alpine pasture that had stood here for 100+ years. Unfortunately it was suffering from years of neglect so we painstakingly rebuilt it and took the opportunity to add in lots of insulation and a geo thermal heat pump and other luxuries that the old farm never had.
What makes this Apartment unique
All the charm of an old farm chalet with plenty of space in and around and all the luxuries of home. The views of the Dents Blanches and Le Criou across the valley can be seen from every window. The chalet sits on the old road up to Morillon 1100 which is 'green' on the Michelin maps, meaning picturesque and not to be missed. Lots of walkers come by admiring the twisting road and the beautiful views.

Perfect setting for a White Christmas
We stayed one week over Christmas and was lucky to get a lot of snow. The chalet is spacious and very well equipped, especially the kitchen with the new oven. The hot water, heating and fireplace worked very well. We traveled with our 2.5 year old toddler and the main bedroom had more than enough space for the wooden crib (provided by the property owners).
The ski lifts, Morillon and Samoens are just a couple of minutes from the chalet by car.
The owner responded promptly to all our questions - each time within a few hours. Very friendly and helpful.
I would definitely recommend staying here.
I did not read the find print and found out later that linen is not included in the deal.
It took 12 hours to get hot water and the only heater upon arrival was a space heater.
We went out and bought firewood the following day and 2more space heaters were delivered the 2 nd night.
I am sorry you did not realise that the bed linen was not included in the rental price. I understand that you saw our property on the American Home-Away site where linen is always included in the rental price. It is not always the case on the UK site and indeed some European visitors prefer to make a saving by bringing their own linen. All the information was fully displayed in the description and I am sorry you missed it at
first. As a friendly gesture, I provided you with six sets of my own bed and bath linen for the very modest cost of €50, a third of the normal price.
I am really sorry the flat was cold when you arrived on the first evening. We were having lovely weather in London and I didn’t realise the weather in Morillon was so unseasonably cold. Normally the flat is wonderfully warm as we have underfloor heating running off a ground
source heat pump. Unfortunately, it had developed leak and lost a lot of refrigerant fluid which had been ordered weeks before but failed to arrive in time. The flat was prepared just a few hours before your arrival by my cleaner who really should have let me know so that I could have asked her to put several heaters and the hot water on before your arrival. Please accept my apologies and I will in the future always check the weather forecasts in mid-season at the time of my guests visits to ensure the flat is heated accordingly. In the evening, you were able to burn the few small logs left for your use and put one heater on, but I gather the flat still remained cold. I understand the 300 litres water cylinder had heated up when you got up the next morning and you went out to visit Chamonix for the day where you were able to buy some logs . Meanwhile I had arranged for two additional heaters, and I gather you also made a fire and then felt comfortable. I have now refunded you €30 for the wood. Once again, my sincere apologies for your bad experience and please believe that as soon as I was made aware of the problem I acted as quickly as possible to remedy it. I hope your travels are going well.

Very Comfortable chalet in beautiful area
Just returned from a lovely stay here. Very comfortable high quality chalet in great grounds with stunning views. owners come back to you very quickly and helped us during the holiday when power went off due to a mountain storm. Loads to do in the area during summer. Walks, cable cars, cycling, rafting, Mont Blanc, swimming in Lake Annecy - wished we had stayed longer. Thank you very much!
A warm and welcoming apartment in a peaceful locat
The apartment is well furnished and equipped. Everything was very clean and tidy, and the beds are really comfortable. I would definitely recommend this area and this property to any friend. Two of our party are non-skiers, and we had a delightful week walking in the River valley and driving to other resorts in the area. We particularly liked Samoens, and enjoyed walking there through the valley. We highly recommend the Bar Savoie in Samoens, best tartiflette in the area!
Located on the outskirts of the lovely village of Morillon, Chalet le Cret is the perfect base for a mountain holiday. Overlooking the Giffre Valley and Les Dents Blanches beyond, the traditional style alpine farmhouse is set in a pasture, the perfect place to get away from it all and relax in luxury and comfort . Children can sled and build snowmen safely outside. It is just 5 minutes drive from the ski lifts of Morillon and Samoens, leading to 265km of pistes in the Grand Massif. The unspoilt and picturesque medieval town of Samoens is just 8 minutes drive away with narrow lanes of shops, fine restaurants, and plentiful activities all year round. The Sixt national park at the head of the valley is a walkers, bird spotters and climbers paradise. If however you need a break from the peace and beauty of the mountains then just an hour's drive away are the cultural delights of Geneva, Annecy and Chamonix; you will never be short of something to do.
