Casa Pero is a comfortably furnished, centrally heated accommodation for up to 7 guests. On the ground floor a well equipped kitchen, leads to a large but cozy sitting room with sofas, armchairs, bookcases, open hearth and fire. There is also a wc/shower on the ground floor. The first floor is reached by an external staircase which gives access to three large bedrooms, two doubles and a twin. There is also a well appointed bathroom with wc. Outside there is a large illuminated paved terrace from which there are steps down to a good size swimming pool (10x6m), set within gardens which have been professionally designed and richly planted with lavenders, roses and many colorful perennials.
Casa Pero is ideally located midway between the Adriatic Coast and the breath taking scenery of the Sibillini Mountains National Park. With its wildflower meadows, its gin clear mountain streams, limestone gorges and waterfalls these mountains are a haven for ramblers, mountain bikers, skiers and those mere mortals who simply want to experience this sublime landscape. No visit is complete without a trip to the Piane Grande, formerly a glacial lake and now the most stunning wildflower meadow, and the Gola Infernaccio (Hells Gorge), a must for walkers and ramblers.
The Adriatic coast is to all intents and purposes one long sandy beach! The beaches are clean and the water is delightfully warm during the summer months. Inevitably there are plenty to choose from such as at Porto San Giorgio and San Benedetto del Tronto, with its old world elegance and palm fringed promenade backed by seafront hotels and old colonial villas. In contrast the more intimate beaches at Sirolo and Portonovo below the high cliffs at Monte Conero are well worth visiting.
The nearest golf course is located south of Ancona at Conero about 1 hours drive from the house. Club hire is available and green fees are extremely reasonable.
Notwithstanding the rural location eating out is very definitely part of the holiday experience. There are numerous excellent restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias in the locality where you can sample the wonderful Marchegian food and wine. Amongst the best are Farfense at Santa Vittoria, Le Logge at Smerillo, Le Querce at Monte San Martino and I Piceni at Ortezzano.
Unless you feel the urge to visit a large supermarket in Amandola or Comunanza (both about 20 minutes drive), all food and essential shopping can be done at Santa Vittoria in Matenano, about 5 minutes drive. This beautiful little historic hill town boasts two small 'Spar' type shops as well as a bank, a bakery, greengrocers, two butchers, and several bars to while away a crafty hour and people watch!
Our first stay in this region. The property was better than we expected, lots of information and really well equipped for cooking and entertaining. The maintenance person was very helpful and pleasant and greeted us on arrival.
The garden was beautiful and provided many different seating areas for each time of day. The really enjoyed having the pool and sunbeds for those lazy days too. The local area is stunning with many hill top villages and not far to the larger towns. We had an excellent day at one of the beautiful beaches.
The local wines, cheeses and produce were mouth watering and consumed in large quantities.
We are already recommending this property to our friends.
As the title says " Beautiful house, link that to beautiful countryside and food, throw in an almost hypnotic calm and you have the perfect recipe for a holiday to inspire and re charge the batteries.
This is not our first visit, that can about when a retired dentist friend would rave incessantly about the Marce and this wonderful cottage. Eventually we thought he"s not without a certain modicum of taste and booked Casa Pero.
Bingo we were hooked and he was forgiven.
Other reviews have mentioned the restaurants where food is good honest Italian country cooking. it great not to have pompous alliterative menus,in fact menus are almost a luxury but don,t be phased what arrives will be a delight.
There are many places to visit but give extra time for the Piano Grande and Ascoli Piceno
This was our eighth visit to Casa Pero, we love it so much here, away from the pressures and worries of home in this lovely house..
We went with 4 friends to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the tiny hamlet of San Biaggio where there is no through traffic and lazing by the pool is a real treat.
The local food is excellent, and very inexpensive, particularly if you go to Agritourismos, which serve local produce and generous quantities of wine, which is included in the price. The owners have a detailed housebook which lists all the good places, including new ones discovered by them.
When it was hot we cooled off in the pool, then sat in shaded areas nearby. The valley surrounding the house is full of olive trees and forests, and the garden is a delight.
The Piane Grande is a 'must see', about 40 minutes drive away, high in the Sibillini mountains Totally unique, breathtaking views, and its little town of Castellucio has several super restaurants. In the past we have taken a picnic to enjoy on the alpine plain.
So, get away from the crowds and traffic, try speaking a little Italian using the house phrasebook (the locals are very friendly and welcoming), you will love Casa Pero as much as we do.

It was so nice to return to Casa Pero last week, just a short visit, but very relaxing just the same. The house was immaculate and welcoming as usual, and we used the wood pellet stove in the evenings for the first time. Very cosy! We had been before early in the year, and were pleased to have lovely spring weather.Despite a few showers,It was very clear and bright and at times warm, especially in the garden. We visited some of our favorite local restaurants and had some great meals, especially at La Lupe, Farfense and Dei Priori. Our Italian is only basic, but the staff were always patient and friendly, helping us through the menus. We didn't venture far this trip, but just enjoyed the peace and quiet. We hope to return again during the summer and to enjoy the pool, one of our favorite occupations! So thank you Lynne and Tony for another great break. Casa Pero is definitely one of our and our friends favorite places to stay,
Janet and Nigel Williams.
This year will be our 5th visit to Casa Pero, and an opportunity to again sample the delights of "real" Italy. With each visit we discover another stunning Adriatic beach, a new picturesque hill town and stumble across a new trattoria serving the most delicious of local cuisines. The friendly locals and epic scenery aside Casa Pero itself is the pefect spot for some serious R&R. With every creature comfort catered for inside, the idyllic garden and pool is a tranquil haven for getting stuck into your holiday book and of course a glass or 2 of Presecco! For those that dont enjoy the blistering midday sun, we suggest taking an afternoon snooze in the hammock under the pergola or visiting one of the local villages for italian ice cream! Once tried, we think Casa Pero will also become your very own La Dolce Vita.
Dating back to the 1800s, Casa Pero, formerly a small farmhouse, is now an idyllic cottage, which has been sensitively restored. Located at the end of a small hamlet, close to the historic hill towns of Montefalcone Appennino and Santa Vittoria in Matenano, the property enjoys a sunny, south facing aspect with tranquil views over a small valley to an olive grove and a wooded hillside beyond. It is ideally located, close to both the sandy beaches of the Adriatic, such as Porto San Giorgio, and the breathtaking scenery of the Sibillini Mountains National Park. eating out is very definitely an integral part of the holiday experience and there are plenty of trattorias close by, to sample the wonderful local cuisine and wines.
This is the perfect property for those seeking peace and quiet, as well as those who want to explore the magical hill towns and timeless countryside of the Marche, with its wonderful far reaching views.
