|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Plan a weekend or a whole week for your family to share a spacious home right on Kerr Lake. Once you are here you forget all about the daily grind and really feel like you are hours away from it all! The view from the back of the wrap-around porch is gorgeous, with a large grassy area for playing/grilling/games, and the lake and private boat dock are in plain view. The dock is very large for plenty of chairs to sit and fish or just enjoy the sun, or bring your boat or kayaks to explore the waters - the dock can fit at least three water crafts.
The location is perfect for a quick trip from Raleigh/Durham - only 1 hour from North Raleigh or Durham (up to 1.5 hrs from S.Raleigh) the home is located just past Townsville NC, which is nice considering most of the lake is in Virginia which would take a lot longer to get to. It is also very close to a boat ramp (Ivy Hill ramp), good for anyone bringing a boat or coming for fishing, and the location on the lake is ideal because you are not on the 'main' open water so it is very quiet and peaceful, but 1 minute on a boat around a corner and you are on the open water for skiing or sightseeing.
This is a self-clean accommodation*. The kitchen has all the amenities you need and features a large island with 4 bar stools - nice for entertaining. There is also a dining table for more seating, and the kitchen and dining are open to a large living room with TV, cable/internet**, DVDs, board games and a bocce ball set for your use. There are three bedrooms - two with queen beds, and one with 2 twin beds - each can sleep two comfortably, and 2 full baths. New gas grill for your use as well.
NO SMOKING OR PETS. MAXIMUM OF 6 GUESTS. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE/HANDICAP FRIENDLY! CHECK-IN TIME IS 4:00 PM DAY OF ARRIVAL, CHECK-OUT TIME IS 12:00 PM DAY OF DEPARTURE.
THE FOLLOWING HOLIDAYS REQUIRE A 5-NIGHT MINIMUM STAY:
Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day
We also welcome any inquires regarding longer-term rentals, such as several months at a time.
* This is a SELF-CLEAN accommodation. Due to the location of the property and it being remote, we do not have the cleaning options that other rentals properties may have (we often can't even get cleaning people out here at all, much less on very short notice). During the busier summer months when there are back-to-back rentals we especially need to rely on our renters to do a VERY thorough cleaning job, as there are only 4-hour windows between rentals. We do this to try to maximize everyone's time at the home, but we just ask for awareness and courtesy about this. Thank you!!!
**As a warning learned from guests in the past, please do NOT come here if you plan on just watching TV or using the internet all day and night, or if you will be here on business and need to rely 100% on having internet service. As stated further in the "amenities" section, we DO have satellite TV and internet service, however due to being in such a remote location it has problems from time to time and the data package is very small for the internet so it gets used up very quickly each month and we can only buy a certain extra amount maximum per month. We hate this as much as you do because it takes a lot of our time to try to correct this all the time (on the phone with the provider, arranging someone to meet them there in a 4-hour-window since we don't live in the area, etc, etc), but we do try our hardest to have it there for at least checking emails and watching a few shows while you're there. So this is our official fine print that the service is unreliable, and we do research every year if there are any better provider options that we can try to improve this. Thanks!
We are Christian and Sara and we LOVE to boat and spend every minute outside that we can. Christian is from England but grew up in South Africa, so he loves how the weather here gets warm like South Africa but the area has the country feel of England. Sara is a Raleigh native. We got married in 2010 and welcomed twin boys in June 2014!
Sara Nicholson purchased this house in 2009
We absolutely LOVE this home - the location is so great on the lake, and the home itself is so cozy and 'lake-y' yet open and spacious as well. When we come here we truly feel like we are days away from the city life and are in a whole different world.
The covered porch is the absolute best feature - you can literally sit there all day no matter what the weather and just look at the water and watch and listen to the nature around you. The dock is the second best feature - you could also spend all day here between swimming in the clean water, walking around the shore area (which can be like a beach depending on the water level), sun-bathing, fishing, and of course boating. Then at night you can lay on the dock and watch the stars that you just don't see in the city.
We have stayed here twice now, once at Thanksgiving and once after Christmas (my parents live locally), and have really enjoyed the stay. Sara has been very easy to communicate with, and very helpful. The house has been in great shape, with a nice binder about how to care for the house, etc. Beautiful view of the lake. We hope to stay here in the summer sometime to be able to enjoy the lake more.
We arrived after Hurricane Matthew, so the dock was underwater until they let water out of the dam on the last day of our stay. The house is lovely and peaceful and was excellent for our purposes (near Tunstall Farm, the site for my daughter's wedding). We all slept well and there was plenty of hot water for showers the day of the wedding. The lack of cell service was frustrating, but we got by, kind of, using wifi and texting. The service at the farm was also bad, so sometimes texts went off into the ozone. (Where do they go?) The house was clean, the lawn freshly mowed. Porch chairs for morning coffee and lake viewing were perfect.
The Bride and Groom loved our house and the dock and will probably come back with friends and two boats to fish later this year. It's the Groom's favorite lake to fish in. He runs a fishing charter business, Red Beard Cats, so he is all about fishing. I would love to come back too. It's pouring down rain now in the Pacific Northwest and I miss North Carolina and Wolfpack Lane.
Harvest Restaurant in Oxford was excellent for lunch. It's open M-F, 11am-3pm. It features fresh local produce from nearby farms. I am 64 and got carded buying wine in VA at the Dollar General Supermarket, so that was flattering and worth a trip.
Sara, we enjoyed our visit, the peace and quiet. It's a great place to sit on the porch and reflect. We had a few problems and I'm sorry I didn't notify you immediately but I had family issues and forgot about notifying you. My cousin died and then a few weeks later my nephew died unexpectedly so I have been out of state and just arrived home.
When we arrived and went to open the patio door the handle was broken. The top screw that holds it is stripped so the handle can't be used to open and close the door. The dishwasher also has a leak. If it is not fixed, it will rot the floor. Lastly, the new television has a problem. There are two vertical blue lines that are always on the screen and they go a little above halfway up the screen. You may want to return it while it is still under warranty.
It was the perfect place for my family. We loved the house, it was very clean, and loved the large back covered deck. We loved the big back yard and the pier was awesome. Perfect size for our boat and big enough for the kids to fish and jump in the water. We will definitely be back next year!!
If you're looking for a relaxing retreat with outdoor fun and recreation yet still have the cushy comforts of home, this is the place! Located off the beaten path, it provides privacy, peace & quiet, scenic views, and several recreational opportunities. Fish, swim or park your boat at your private dock. Relax with your morning coffee and watch the sunrise, or sip a cool beverage in the evening as the sun sets on the wrap around porch. The home itself contains everything you need for comfort and meal preparation as if you were home. A perfect setting for adults and/or kids. The neighbors were friendly, welcoming and even invited us to their weekend gatherings. Our 5 y/o granddaughter had a blast catching sunfish and jumping in the lake off the end of the dock. The rental process from reservation through payment was flawless and the owner, Sara, was extremely helpful & engaging to the point of providing her cell phone number if we needed anything during our stay. I would highly recommend this vacation rental to friends & family and plan a return trip in the near future.
We have found our spot for lake living. The location of the house was not to far from the interstate. Once we arrived we felt right at home. Everything we needed was there. We found it to be clean and well kept. Our favorite spot to hang out, was on the covered porch facing the lake! It was the place for morning coffee and evening grilling. We all kept saying from the time we arrived until we left , what a peaceful relaxing place. Also Sara the home owner is very sweet and accommodating. We hope to stay again next spring or summer!
At Wolfpack Lodge you will be getting away from it all here. You and your family will enjoy a nice, quiet location on Kerr Lake near Henderson Point. The house is at the end of a gravel road, so it is very private. Also, the location on the lake itself is ideal because you are not on the 'main' water so it is very quiet and peaceful for swimming and fishing, but one minute on a boat around a corner and you are on the big, open water for skiing or sightseeing.
Once you launch your boat at the boat ramp (only 8 minutes away by car, then 4 minutes back by water) you can drive it back to the home's spacious dock which can accommodate 3 boats and leave it here for the duration of your stay for quick and easy trips on and off the water.
One of the best fishing lakes in the eastern United States, Kerr Lake features striped bass, largemouth bass, white perch, crappie, and catfish. Fish from a boat, the shoreline or from the piers at Bullocksville and Henderson Point. The pier at Henderson Point is open 24 hours per day.
Clarksville, VA is a only quick boat-ride away and is a great, quaint little town to stop in for the day with it's large boat dock, nice restaurants and shops (lots of great antique shops). The Kerr Lake Dam and some large marinas are also a quick boat ride away in the other direction. Steele Creek Marina and Satterwhite Point Marina, are open year round and offer fuel, mooring, slips, service and supplies, and sometimes have special events going on such as fireworks display for July 4th. Satterwhite Point has a visitor's center complete with an exhibit hall. An accessible nature trail with an overlook, as well as an amphitheater, are nearby.
While the location of the home is somewhat remote, Henderson is only 15 minutes away and has everything you could need in an emergency (hospital, stores, restaurants, shopping, etc). There are also a couple convenience stores only 3-5 minutes away from the home for necessities such as drinks, snacks, bait & tackle, etc, and a couple restaurants between the home and Henderson.
