About Bob Jones
My partner, Doris Groves, and I own a small organic vegetable farm in Brooksville, Maine. See our Sweet Dog Farm website for other information and photos.
Bob Jones purchased this House in 1992
Why Bob Jones chose Surry
My father purchased this property in 1946 because of the sandy beach access and great sunset views. There was a small cabin on this property which was removed In 1992 when the new building was erected.
What makes this House unique
Our renters have said they especially enjoyed kayaking on the pond and some liked fishing. Families with children have said that their favorite activity was kayaking out to the island in front of the cottage, having a picnic lunch and jumping off a big rock there.

Bob Jones made this first experience so wonderful and wanting to return already. No matter what questions we had or concerns, Bob was on top of it. We all agreed that this was an exceptional vacation and a great experience.
Beth Hahn and her family were exceptional guests.
They left my house in immaculate condition
Wonderful host and lovely cabin right on a gorgeous lake.
Beautiful and peaceful retreat
This cabin exceeded our expectations in every way! Spacious, clean, well stocked and beautifully situated. Bob is a gracious, helpful and unobtrusive host. The pond is gorgeous, vast and full of fun islands and areas to discover. The short paddle to the nearest island and jumping rock was a daily favorite! Sleeping porches fabulous, as is the large screened porch. Lots of water craft to use. We will be back!!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you can come back next year
Best family vacation...EVER!
Bob's cabin was simply the best family vacation we've ever taken. The cabin was very clean, with all the listed amenities in working order (except the dishwasher, but we knew that heading into it). There were kayaks, canoes and a dingy readily available, along with plenty of paddles and PFD's. Bob showed us some excellent fishing spots and even went so far as to mark them for my boys, so they could find them later.
We brought all our food and spent the week preparing meals. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots, pans and dishes. I cooked full meals just like I do at home, and the only things I missed were my good knives and my favorite cast iron skillet!
The linens were fresh and clean, with extra blankets for the cool nights. The bathroom was very clean with more than enough storage for all our things. The beds were quite comfortable and the sleeping porches on the main level were fantastic!
There is a large porch on the back of the house facing the lake where I spent a large portion of each day rocking and looking at the water...when I wasn't out there in it, that is! We ate all our meals out there, listening to the loons.
I cant even begin to talk about how beautiful Toddy Pond itself is. Its incredibly clean, surprisingly warm and not very busy. We kayaked, swam and fished all day, every day. The kids used snorkeling gear and paddled all around the waterfront. The jumping rock was a highlight for my three boys, they never tired of it.
We are hopeful we can go back next summer and spend even more time. Bob, we appreciate your hospitality, and thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.
Effortless vacation in a beautiful setting
Our week on Toddy Pond was wonderful. A terrific location for a family vacation.
Thanks for coming. Hope to see you next year.
Everything you want for a memorable vacation experience
We were so happy coming down the dirt road driveway to see how secluded and private the cottage is. When we first arrived at the house we were warmly greeted by the owner, Bob Jones which was a nice treat to get a quick tour of the house and tips on the lake and other local advise. But when we 1st walked in was the real unexpected treat. This house is amazing. Plenty of room with 2 screened bedrooms which was an amazing experience of feeling like you were sleeping outdoors but on a really comfortable bed. If that's not your thing there are 2 conventional bedrooms upstairs. 2 dining rooms, again, one screened in and one enclosed. Atriumed living room with all natural wood that still smells of fresh cut natural wood. Real outdoor cabin experience with the luxuries and comforts of home.
In the outdoors area between the house and the lake there are 5 kayaks fun for the whole family, even my 9yo daughter had no problem getting to the island on the calm lake. A hammock. A fire pit. A large rock right on the lake which was my coffee spot in the morning and fIshing spot throughout the day. The lake was so clean and warm and has a great island close by where we swam, relaxed, fished and has a HUGE rock to sunbath on or jump off of into the lake(that's a lot of fun).
Lots of things to do close by. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Fort Knox and bridge tower observatory. Great Maine Lumberjack show. But with this house you could have a great vacation staying in the whole time.
Bob and Doris .......thank you you so much for opening your home to us. We often do vacation rentals but yours will be at the top of our list. This is a great memory of a true Maine vacation for my family.
Only 20 minutes to shopping in Blue Hill, Ellsworth or Bucksport and 45 minutes to Acadia National Park.
