This 300-year-old Villa Has All The Charm Of The Area With Modern Conveniences

Perfect for ski vacations in February and March. It's mild at the property, yet only an hour from a ski resort. The fireplace is ready to light and the rooms will be cozy and warm. When you come back from the ski slopes, hop in the jacuzzi with a glass of rosé and watch a movie after a day's outing. The house can accommodate 4-6 people very comfortably in the three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and the living/dining room has a piano, the fireplace and a table that will hold 8 people for dinner.

About Greta Hughes

My daughter and I purchased this home almost ten years ago, and we have continued to rent it to people who want to have a wonderful French country vacation. I am now retired and spend much of my time in the U.S. and in Europe and this home needs to be occupied by people who will love it and take care of it. I am American but love living in France.

Greta Hughes purchased this villa in 2004

Why Greta Hughes chose Cannes - Grasse - Antibes

This 300-year-old villa has all the charm of the area with all the modern conveniences to make your stay comfortable. The villa sleeps six, with three bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths. It also has a DSL line and satellite dish. You can watch the sunrise with your cup of coffee on the balcony overlooking the gardens in the master bedroom.

Downstairs is a gourmet kitchen (complete with modern appliances, including a dishwasher, microwave, and garbage disposal), and full service laundry room.

The dining room/living room invites guests to relax in front of a large stone fireplace, play the baby grand piano, watch DVDs and videotapes, or tune into TV stations in French, German and English - or just build a fire and watch the flames while sipping on fine French wine.

What makes this villa unique

Because the house has been owned by Americans for the past 40 years, it has all of the amenities we are used to, including screens on the windows, a beautiful garden full of roses, and a jacuzzi. There are wonderful fruit trees and lavender. You can sit on the swing and watch the butterflies and the bees. And you can also watch the hang gliders and para gliders as they wing their way over the house on most weekends.

Comfortable and pretty bolthole in the hills above Nice

  • 5 of 5

Great location to relax or to use as a base to explore the area. Some well marked hiking trails around for the health conscious. The villa is spacious and comfortable with a lovely garden and terrace areas for enjoying the sun. Grasse and Gordon are worth checking out and it's an easy drive to Monaco and Nice. I enjoyed going to the local market and coming back to cook it and enjoy with some good French wine.

Unwind, recharge, or use it as a home base for exploring a little known part of France

  • 5 of 5

This is an amazing house to spread out in, rustic but with all the amenities. Great layout for families, couples, and kids, but affordable enough for a small group too (we were just two). I did a lot of touring but could easily have spent a week on the patio in the sun with a book and bottle of cold rosé doing nothing. I sort of wish I had! But there's a lot to see and do nearby, so Gourdon, Grasse, Tourrettes sur Loup, Pont du Loup, Nice, Antibes, Mougins and Cannes all beckoned. Whether you're a biker / fisher-person / paraglider, a cultural / perched village / art aficionado, or a sit-on-your-bum-and-read type, this could be your paradise. Thanks Greta for sharing your home!

My wife and I had a delightful 3 days at this villa. Quiet, spacious and relaxed with excellent vistas of green valleys and mountains all around. Quite accessible to Nice, the coast, but also foothills to the Alps. Charming French villages nearby. Only wish we had had more time.

Beautiful house in quite location

  • 5 of 5

We spend here one week with 3 young children. The house is lovely and the garden even more. Very spacious rooms and good place to eat outside. The top attraction is the hot tub in the garden. The house is very well equipped and although bathrooms might be a bit old fashionned, everything works fine. The owner took excellent care of us with flowers from the garden in the rooms and croissants on arrival. The only downside is that you really need a car in my opinion to discover the surroundings.

lovely house in a stunning area of France

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a few days In April, and the place is absolutely beautiful. After the bustle of city life, it is very quiet, a peaceful location where your only visitors are the birds in the garden. It has three bedrooms with tasteful decor, and three toilets, and two baths with showers. The garden is very pretty, with plenty of space to eat outside, with a dining table close to the kitchen.

You will need to have a car, although there is a bus service from the local village to Nice. If you are looking for a place to "get away from it all" this is it. The surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful. We drove up to Gourdon where the views are spectacular. There are dramatic cliffs, with villages perched on top of them, and superb views down to the coast. You can see Nice, Antibe, and on a very clear day, you can even see Corsica way in the distance. With your own car you can take day trips to the towns on the coast like Cannes, Nice and Antibe, but then escape the hustle and bustle of the towns and drive home to your retreat, where you can relax in the Jacuzzi. If you want to spend your time reading in the garden, there are two recliners (one swings!) and no one will disturb you. If you are feeling energetic there are plenty of hikes in the surrounding hills. Bring good shoes, as the paths are definitely NOT flat!

All in all, thoroughly to be recommended.

There are screens on all the windows, one of the very few homes in France like this, thanks to Americans owning the property for 35 years. Also an underground sprinkler system and drip system, so you can enjoy the flowers without doing anything to them except cutting the roses
