Overview

About the property

Cozy & pet friendly 3/2 cabin in a quiet forest setting!

The Three Bear's Lair is a wonderful year round adult getaway, outdoor lover's base camp or a family and pet friendly vacation spot. There are many lovely 'homes' to rent in Graeagle, but what our guests love most and what makes our property unique, is that it has such a cozy 'mountain cabin' feel to it. The log exterior and interior and cabin decor gives you the feeling that you've escaped to a true mountain retreat! It's set back off the street and backs up to a forested greenbelt for quiet privacy for your morning coffee or evening happy hour and dining on the back deck.

When you arrive you'll be welcomed by our waving bear and our covered front porch with a rocking bench and comfy Adirondack chairs to sit and watch the deer cruise by. You'll also find the horseshoe pits and the bench swing to enjoy in the front yard.

As you enter you'll love the open airy feel to the living space complete with a game room and unique vintage bumper pool table; the large dining table for family meals games and puzzles; the roomy fully appointed kitchen with lots of counter and pantry space; the island bar with additional seating for three; a cozy family room with 55' high definition satteliteTV with Blue Ray player, stereo/DVD/CD system, rock fireplace; big bear recliner chair for two; and large double windows looking out to the forested greenbelt behind the cabin.

Just outside the door from the family room is a large deck with more Adirondack chairs and a table that seats 6-8 for al fresco dining or smores and star gazing while gathered around the outdoor firepit on cool nights.

The master bedroom has a CA King bed, full private bath, clothes and suitcase rack, large dresser for storage and a view of the forest greenbelt out back.

The second bedroom has a full queen, walk in closet, dresser for storage, a second full bath in the hall, and views to the front yard.

The 'Bears Den' is a fun gathering spot for kids play, quiet time, a matinee, video or board games, and a wrap around couch/sleeper sofa with pull out that sleeps two.

The Lair is set back almost 50 feet from the main street which only sees a few cars a day, so it's very private when you are sitting on the front porch or on the back deck watching the birds, squirrels, deer, racoon or occasional fox or bobcat. And yes, we have seen a bear saunter through! In the front yard we have horseshoes and the greenbelt in the back is wide open for kids and dogs to roam, a game of frisbee golf or nice shortcut to the golf course through the neighborhood or towards town.

About Michele Skupic

We had always dreamed of having a cabin in the woods and we finally realized our dream when we found the perfect lot in November 2001 and finished construction of The Three Bears Lair in 2002. We named it the Three Bear's Lair after our family - Papa, Mama and Baby Bear. You can't miss the bear theme throughout the cabin and to date we've never had anyone give us an exact count of all the bears you'll find in the cabin! We absolutely love Graeagle and all the beauty that surrounds it. It is our happy place and we've decided to share it with others who, like us, will appreciate the incredible gift of Graeagle as your home away from home.

Michele Skupic purchased this cabin in 2002

Why Michele Skupic chose Shasta Cascade

Our property is unique in that it has the feel of a cozy log cabin with all the modern amenities. It's deceiving from the front because it looks small, but it is 1625 sf! And we chose this floorplan so that regardless of whether you are in the kitchen, the game room or the family room you are never isolated from your family or friends. But with the den, the front and back deck you can still find a quiet spot to sneak away if you need some private time. Our neighborhood is very quiet and we are within walking distance to town or Graeagle Meadows for golf or Sunday brunch. And we are just 20 minutes from the most beautiful mountains and lakes in the Northern Sierra. Just head up Gold Lake Highway for four wheeling, dirt bike riding, hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, kyaking, canoeing or exploring in the summer and snowshoeing or sledding in the winter. The trails are endless and the beauty of the high mountain vistas, meadows, and lakes is breathtaking.

What makes this cabin unique

You'll make memories in Graeagle whenever you come up - but many families choose a special week and return that same week every year as their special family time. Having had the cabin for all our special holidays and family events has created treasured memories for our family. Our guest book reflects the special moments of family and friends as well. We look forward to hosting you at the Three Bears Lair so you can begin creating your own special memories!!

Beary Kitschy

  • 5 of 5

We found a very clean and exceptionally well stocked kitchen. What would have been more useful though, would have been less gadgets and just a bit of provisions. When stopping at the grocery store for food, we didn't think to also have to buy cooking oil or pan spray, a spoonful of sugar, or perhaps one tea bag for that single soul that doesn't drink coffee.

Spectacular! Cozy, story book cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Three cheers for three bears lair! An amazing cabin that was a perfect weekend getaway. The kid's loved all the bear decorations and made a game out of counting them all. Enjoyed the horse shoes and the swing out front. Kitchen was equipped with all we needed for a BBQ and dinner out on the deck. Beautiful cabin nestled among beautiful scenery. Michele was a pleasure to work with.

beautiful (with singing moose)

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed with another couple. We enjoyed the beautiful, spacious house with unique decorations (!) and the singing moose on the wall -- a total hoot. The house was fully furnished and very clean. The location in the woods was really nice and close to hiking, lakes and town. We hope to stay there again sometime soon.

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay during an annual trek to Graeagle for a golf tournament. Everything at the place is 'as advertised' and we especially appreciate the 'pet friendly' feature. We often use VRBO for vacation rentals and this was by far the highest level of customer service we have received. The owners are experienced, responsive and know what a customer is looking for/needs to have a hassle free rental. Can't miss here.

Graeagle is a beautiful quaint mountain town located in Plumas County. It is the high Sierra's 'best kept secret' nestled just an hour north of Truckee on Hwy 89 and one hour northwest of Reno via Hwy 395.

Graeagle is your 'basecamp' and gateway to the pristine Lakes Basin Recreation area with thousands of acres of wilderness and over 50 alpine lakes to explore. Nearby is the stunning Sierra Valley famous for migratory bird watching throughout the seasons. The Feather River flows through the area and is famous for its fly fishing, kayak and rafting opportunities. There are six top rated golf courses within a 5-30 minute drive.

The town of Graeagle is short walk or drive from our cabin. Step back in time with it's quaint 'little red buildings' which house many shops and galleries. No store is the same and each has it's own unique array of gifts and treasures. From antiques to boutiques there is something for everybody! The grocery store is unmatched for it's fine meats and vegetables and everything you need for cooking at home or packing a picnic. We now have both wine tasting and a brewery in the area and both have their own spin on their crafts with fantastic ambiance for tastings or settling in with a pint or a bottle and a picnic depending on your mood. Most of the summer each host music venues that make it even more fun as a late afternoon or evening destination.

There are plenty of activities during the season from summer to fall with the Great American Crafts Fair in July and August, the classic 4th of July festivities, the Jazz Festival and numerous fun local festivities in the surrounding area.

For the wrangler in you, pull on your boots and head to Graeagle Stables, Gold Lake Stables or Greenhorn Ranch (a very worthy short trip down Highway 70 towards Quincy) for the ride of your life!

Whether you hike, fish, boat, kayak, canoe, swim, jeep, mountain bike, horseback ride, gold pan, bird watch or just want to chill by a mountain river, stream or lake there is something for everyone in and around Graeagle.

If you love history -Plumas and Sierra Counties are FULL of amazing stories and tall tales from the early days of the Maidu and the Gold Miners. Plumas Eureka State Park has living history days and tours of the famous Eureka Peak Mine with all the buildings restored and open to the public. The Kentucky Mine in Sierra City also hosts historic tours and a summer music concert series that is an absolute blast! Stroll, hike or have brunch at Big Springs Gardens to discover 30 acres of unexcelled park like natural beauty near Sierra City.

And the restaurants!! Some of the most casual FINE dining you will ever experience. Just like the stores - each is unique with fresh and delicious menus and specials. We have information at the cabin on all and there isn't a single one that we wouldn't recommend!

Even after 40 years of exploring this area, we continue to discover new hidden jewels in the Sierra. We look forward to sharing them with you! The hardest part of being in Graeagle is knowing you have to leave! It's truly one of the best places to relax and breathe.

So come stay and play at the Three Bears Lair in Graeagle - the gift of a lifetime!
