Thornleigh is situated between Porthleven and beautiful Praa Sands. Porthleven is a popular harbour, and has many award winning restaurants, cafes and pubs. Below are a few we recommend;
The harbour also has many gift shops, and a well stocked fishing tackle shop which also organises boat and fishing trips.
Praa sands is a beautiful large sandy beach, ideal for families as it has lifeguards and amenities. There is a beach shop, surf hire and surf lessons are available. Also various cafes with fantastic views over the beach. One of these is the Sandbar which is a licensed beach bar/restaurant serving food and drink all day until late evening. There is plenty of seating with fantastic views over the beach through the many large windows. Also has a large balcony seating area overlooking the beach for dining al fresco. It is welcoming to all, couples, families, dog friendly and there is a retro games area with pinball and air hockey, and plenty of parking available.
Local pubs to Thornleigh
The Crown Inn at Crowntown is the closest pub to Thornleigh at just under a mile cross country walk or just over a mile drive. The Queens Arms is the local village pub at Breage, both of these are CAMRA recognised. Together with The Lion and Lamb at Ashton, these are 3 local pubs all serving pub grub and a selection of local ales.
The Victoria Inn at Perranuthnoe. Has received several Gold awards from Taste West and Cornwall Tourism. Good food in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Advisable to book during busy times, great for Sunday lunch. Again welcoming to all.
Helston provides a range of takeaways, cafes, pubs and the stylish restaurant Nansloe Manor.
Thornleigh is surrounded by beautiful countryside and coastal walks, within 3 miles are Godolphin, an enchanging estate owned by the National Trust, Rinsey Cove, where you will find 2 old tin mines next to the cliff edge and steps down to the cove below and Loe bar/ Penrose Estate, great for long walks round Loe pool to the sea.

Great place for local food is Trevaskis Farm Shop and Gardens, a modern take on a farm and shop with activities for children and pick your own.
If you need to do any more shopping you can continue to the main Hayle A30 roundabout which has an M&S, large Boots and Next.
There is a large 24hr Tesco in Helston, a Lidl, Sainsburys, Somerfield and a small Spar. In the town is Olivers, a deli, butchers and wine merchant.

Slightly further afield yet only a 25 minute drive is the relative tranquility of the Helford a beautiful stretch of estuary much favoured by sailing folk. This area also boasts 2 superb gardens adjacent to each other; Trebah and Glendurgan. They each have incorporated activities for children and cafes to re fuel. The Helford has many attractive pubs and restaurants.
St Ives and Falmouth: Also a 25 minute drive is the bustling town of St Ives, famous for its Arts Colony & beautiful beaches, it contains more than 30 galleries, one of which is the Tate, St ives, situated on the beautiful surfing beach of Porthmeor. The Tate also looks after the Barbara Hepworth sculpture garden in the centre of town. A recent opening has been the Bernard Leach pottery Studio. The small cobbled streets of St Ives with little boutique shops provide hours of diversion. There is a good range of eating establishments from gourmet restaurants to take aways. Live music is often found in the town, culminating for 2 weeks in the September Festival when musicians from throughout the UK & the rest of the World come together in this small old fishing town.
A half hour drive from Thornleigh will also take you to Falmouth, here you can find the new and popular Maritime Museum, also lesser known the area of Penryn fast becoming a new artistic and creative part of Falmouth.
