We would stay here again...
The house is as advertised and pictured. Its a beautiful home in a nice quiet area with great views of the mountains and parts of the ocean. Gaby was fantastic with everything from meeting us to seeing us out. Always willing to answer questions and help answer any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend the place.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review, and for the compliments, we do our best to be real and your experience will tell just that to other people wanting to stay with us. We hope to see you again for your next holiday, warm regards, Gaby
Beautiful and immaculate villa in a quiet village
Villa Acrothea is described on the sign outside as a ‘luxury home’ and that is certainly correct. The property has been very well converted from it’s previous use to an absolutely stunning and modern home. Everything was spotlessly clean on arrival, with plenty of towels and bedding provided. The beds were very comfy while the air conditioning and thick stone walls ensured the rooms were cool.
The booking and communication with Gaby was excellent and very straightforward, we arranged to meet at the local Garage in Kavros so she could escort us up to the villa in Kournas. (Tip: Pick up some groceries at the supermarket here whilst you wait so you have some basics in the villa when you first arrive, especially if it’s Sunday as the village shop is closed).
Access to the pool and BBQ areas is through the bedrooms so you have to take any drinks and food through the house and down two flights of stone stairs which was a little inconvenient, however the beauty of the property does outweigh this slight niggle. As mentioned on other reviews the pool is quiet small but it was fine for children to play in (no shallow end though which wasn’t a problem for us as our children can swim but may be a concern with younger children) and for adults to cool off.
The villa is located down a very narrow lane and access to the parking requires some getting used to. We only had a small car and I would advise against trying it in anything like an SUV, but you could always leave your car parked in the village and walk down if it was a problem which is literally 1 minute away. The small town of Kavros is 5km away and has several restaurants, shops and supermarkets and it was easy to get a taxi there and back in the evenings. The next town along from Kavros was Georgioupoli, a further 7km along the coast which has a nice beach and is a much bigger town with some more modern restaurants etc.
The local village of Kournas is small and quiet with a couple of tavernas with super friendly locals serving delicious food at very reasonable prices. Also, the little shop is convenient for any basics you might require.
If you are looking for a place that is luxurious and away from the noise and bustle of the holiday resorts then this is perfect home to consider.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review with your experience at our villa and the neighbourhood, we hope to see you again for your next holiday, warm regards, Gaby
We loved staying at this wonderful villa. The pictures absolutely represent what it looks like in person. The location, amenities, etc. were perfect for our mom/daughter trip. Highly recommend!
Thank you Erica for taking the time to write a review, much appreciated. We are happy to hear that you had a good time staying with us, and look forward to see you again on your next trip. Warm regards, Gaby
We stayed for a week in July and had an amazing time. The villa is just as it appears in the photos. It's in a quiet little village with a small store and a couple good family run restaurants. Lake Kournas is just a few miles up the hill and the beach about 5 km down the hill and a little further from there down the highway. You definitely need a car to get to the house and around the island. The house had all the acomodations that we needed. We did not cook but everything was there had we wanted to. There were 4 adults and 2 kids and the 3 bedrooms were just right. It is a clean and modern house with a great pool that is just big enough to play and cool off in. I highly recommend staying at the Villa Acrothea. We would go back in the future if we return to Crete.
Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. We are very glad to hear that you enjoyed the villa and the village. We are looking forward to have you stay with us again in the future. Thanks again and warm regards, Gaby
We have just recently returned from a lovely 2 week stay at Villa Acrothea.
It is a fantastic villa which has been recently renovated to a very high standard. The quality of the villa and its furnishings are outstanding. It is very well equipped with everything you could need to enjoy your stay. There are exceptional mountain and sea views.
Gaby met us on arrival and took us along with the owner to the villa, they were both very helpful. It was cleaned twice a week at a time to suit us. The stone walls of the villa meant it was cool inside. There are many different outside areas all very well equipped. The owners also have a taverna called Bonatsa in Kavros which is also excellent and very good value for money. We were made to feel very welcome.
The villa is situated in the village of Kournas which has a 3 tavernas, a bakery and small shop. All the local people are very friendly. Kournas lake is beautiful and a nice day out. Pedalos are available here to hire. A 3km drive away is the tourist area of Kavros with more tavernas and shops including 2 supermarkets.
Georgioupolis is a 10 to 15 minute drive away and the town of Rethymno approximately 30 minutes away. Just before you get to Rethymno there is also a Lidl supermarket. Chania is an hours drive away but well worth the visit for the day.
There are many local villages all worth visiting but a car is essential.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this villa.
How nice to read your review, it was our pleasure to have you stay with us and we hope to see you again for your next holiday. We really loved the fact that you enjoyed the villa and the neighborhood, nice to hear you went exploring, Crete has so many nice places to visit. I'm sure some are waiting to be discovered on your return. Warm regards, Gaby
Lake Kournas is the nearest attraction, unique for the island, only a 5 minutes drive and a must see.
