Lovely position, adequate accommodation.

  • 3 of 5

Quiet and private position.

Clean.

Very poor shower because of the low water pressure.

Inadequate lighting.

Few television channels.

A cold old house - be prepared to spend extra money on heating fuel, even in August.

Owner's Response: Dear Ann, Thank you very much for the review of your stay at Doon Cottage. We are sorry that you encountered a problem with the shower water pressure and would like to let you know that this issue is now resolved. We have installed a shower pump to significantly increase the water pressure in the house. We are also currently enhancing the interior of the house to ensure the comfort of our guests and will take your valuable feedback on board as we do so. It was a pleasure to have you stay with us and we hope to welcome you to Doon Cottage again soon. Kind Regards, Tim

Doon Cottage - Tranquil Location - Adequate Facilities

  • 3 of 5

Doon Cottage has a fabulous location secluded with a huge grassy lawn, great for kids and safe. The cottage itself is quite basic but adequate, if you are expecting luxury this may not be the cottage for you. The internet connection was first class and was free, but when it comes to electricity and heating oil you are charged?

My biggest negative was the shower it is so inadequate, there simply is not enough water pressure, and if someone turns a tap on downstairs its can scold you.... beware if children are using this shower as there is a potential risk from scolding. however there is a bath which works fine.

Pat and Tim were very helpful greeting us on arrival and calling in once to check all was well. Overall an enjoyable stay in a lovely location, peaceful, tranquil and ideal to get away and relax.

Magnificent!

  • 5 of 5

Doon Cottage is a charming home, and sits on a perfect piece of green grassy land in county Kerry. A perfect place to stay when exploring the coast and Ring of Kerry. We stayed there with our daughter and her friend (both in university), and had plenty of room in the house. The kitchen is fully equipped and everything was easy to find and easy to use. The evenings got a bit chilly so we lit a fire in the dining room a few times which warmed up the entire house, and the hosts gave us extra blankets as well. They also came over and fixed a clogged drain right away. Very responsive and kind. We highly recommend this home for a great Irish country cottage experience in comfort! Thank you to Tim and Pat, who made our holiday stay so comfortable and memorable!

Charming house

  • 5 of 5

We booked because it looked like the charming cottage of the pictures and it did not disappoint. While it had some old world charm none of those things distracted from our stay. The positives: washer and dryer, dish washer, tv with cable channels, small fridge and dishes/ utensils. Separately the front yard is a great place and on the two sunny days we had while we were there, it rained most of our stay, the kids played happily out there. I wish my yard at home was that nicely set up for kids to play. The donkeys were a highlight of our visit and my kids loved feeding them a carrot every morning that we bought solely for this purpose. One didn't always want to great us, but the two were always waiting when we came out.

The negatives for information only, but they would not stop me from booking here again: only a tv downstairs, it is freezing at night and the title floors especially. They did have heating blankets in the bed which we used and helped tremendously. The dryer was in the barn so I never used it because I didn't want to venture out in the rain. We utilized the dryer rack. The shower pressure was almost non existent. That was the biggest negative but the bath worked great so I utilized that more then the shower.

Check in and out was super easy and Tim Foley happily answered my questions as a month before our trip my husband broke his leg. He even offered us another property that would be more accessible, but the fireplace and donkeys made us happy we stayed. My husband said it was worth once a day going up and down the stairs to be there because the atmosphere was so perfect. His brother who checked us in was also very nice and recommended The Blue Bull for dinner in Sneem which we loved enough we went twice.

We based ourselves here for a week and drove to different areas like the ring (of course), down to Cohn, up to Limerick and around and found it a nice base for our week. If you want to stay under two hour drives then I would recommend basing yourself here for three or four days and then moving north or south. It is closer (10 minute drive) to Sneem then Kenmare (20 minutes) but it's highlighting feature is since it is off the Ring road the views, when clear, are amazing from the property.

If charm is what you are looking for then I recommend this place.

Perfection!

  • 5 of 5

Doon Cottage exceeded our expectations by a million miles! It is a wonderful and cozy place to stay, with amazing grounds and even more amazing scenery. A perfect location to explore the Ring of Kerry, and not too far from both Sneem and Kenmare. The donkeys were there every day to get their carrots, and both Pat and Tim were fantastic in helping us to get the logs for the fire. This is a highly recommended place to stay and we will be back again as we simply could not get enough of the place!
