My siblings and I love Mount Desert island and enjoy sharing our special place on Somes Sound. Copper Top was just completed last August, we think you will find it very comfortable and perfect for a superb vacation. A lot of special attention was paid in creating an efficient and well-stocked kitchen while attending to the visual esthetics of each room; considering every detail.
Why Angela chose Mount Desert
Our house will attract people who want to be in nature but also comfortable. You and your crew might enjoy kayaking (currently a rental), watching eagles, observing seals and passing sailboats. And if you enjoy ocean swimming, we encourage you to walk down the stone steps for a refreshing dip in Somes Sound. Bring a book or two--you won't want to go anywhere else. Bar Harbor is a 10-minute drive where you will find a grocery store, a natural food market and many shops and restaurants. What most people comment on is how our house/site offers the best of both; peace and quiet, away from the summertime madding crowds yet within easy proximity to all harbor towns and park trails. There are very few access points on Somes Sound making our site perfect for kayaking, canoeing, swimming and exploring.
What makes this House unique
Wake up to the sounds of grunting seals on seal ledge. Carriage roads are very accessible and a 5-minute drive to the best day hikes. Northeast Harbor is just a 10-minute drive away--wonderful shops and dining. Bar Harbor is about a 15 minute drive. Southwest Harbor is just across the Sound; 20 minutes drive. Mount Desert island offers a wide variety of activities with ferries to explore nearby islands, bike/walk carriage roads, golf, lakes and ponds, sailing and boating, fishing, great hiking. You might want to pick up a pizza or two and drive your group up to Cadillac mountain for sunset dining! But you most probably won't want to leave the house with so much at your fingertips; exploring the tidal pools, lying on sun-baked rocks and truly relaxing. Ps: if you are interested in renting, please give us a bit of information about your group; rental history on the island or elsewhere (if applicable), ages of any children and other basic information about yourselves--helps make the booking process go a lot more easily. We allow a maximum of 6 guests only for fall and winter months rentals on 4-night minimum rentals.

Wonderful house, wonderful site, wonderful week!
We (8 adults) found it very hard to leave this tranquil spot, so we consoled ourselves by booking another week next year. The house is beautifully constructed and decorated and so comfortable. The owner quickly responded to questions about the tvs and sonos sound system, and it was a delight to work with her. We loved everything about our week and can't wait to go back.
Awesome House, Awesome Location
The house is spectacular. The pictures tell the story well so I won't go into further detail other than to say the pics don't lie. I'll focus my review on things that may not be obvious from the pics. The Somes Sound location is awesome. We found the waters in the sound to be much calmer than the average ocean waters due to the protection on 3 sides. On many mornings and sometimes late in the day the water would be still and smooth as glass like you might find on a lake. Great for kayaking ! The rocks at the shore are a great spot to launch from and we left our Kayaks there all week. (Make sure to pull em all the way up to the pines to be safe at high tide.) The water is also warmer than other spots on the island . Still Maine ocean water, so not "warm" by any stretch, but noticably warmer than Sand Beach and other places we dipped in. We saw seals all week long. They were gathering every day on a floating dock a couple hundred yards away from Nub rocks (the rocks/pines on the little peninsula at the shoreline). The location is also a great for accessing all of Mt. Desert Isle. 12 Minutes to Bar Harbor. 10-15 to Southwest Harbor and the quiet side. Easy access to Carriage Trails, Jordan Pond, etc. . . The beds were super comfy and all the showers were awesome, not to mention the super deep tub in the master bedroom, great for two. The property is mostly wooded and has alot of growth down to the shoreline. If you are hanging outside you are on the deck, just below it, or down at the shoreline. There is plenty of driveway space and wood chips around the property, but no lawn or grass area for sports or running around. The deck is a great outdoor focal point. The water access trail is a bit rough, even with the stone steps. It's choppy and not for anyone with strong mobility concerns. The waterfront area and nub rocks are great for hanging, viewing sunsets and water activities. Rocks are good to hang out on with a few nice flat spots, but also alot of seaweed at low tide, and you need to cross about 40 ft of somewhat squishy and smelly ocean grass/weeds to get to the good area. No big deal, but you don't want to go down there barefoot. A path of large stepping rocks across the mucky area would be a great addition! There is another house on the property that is viewable from the deck. People were there but it was not a problem for us as their deck and primary windows face away. We loved this place and would definitely go back. Very special!
Thank you Jeff--we are pleased that you had a wonderful stay at Copper Top. Perhaps your comments will encourage others to take a dip!
Stunning luxury home on tranquil property.
We stayed at this property with our four adult children for a week over the fourth of July. Our goal was to spend time together relaxing and that is just what this home provided. We had coffee every morning on the large deck, watched the sunsets, and stars every night. The gourmet kitchen is well stocked with everything you will need for light cooking or a large meal. The bedrooms are outfitted with luxurious linens and the master has a gorgeous view to boot. The views of the sound are better in person, but the listing photos are true to the home. This property is close to Bar Harbor town, carriage trails, and Acadia Park. Bring your binoculars as there is wildlife to see. The owner is very responsive should you have questions.
We are thrilled that you had a great experience at Coppertop.Thank you for your review--very appreciated! It is a new house so we will continue to add, tweak things as we go along in order to keep things fresh and well maintained.
Thank you for mentioning the importance of bring binoculars--with so much to observe on Somes Sound.
I wish you and your family the very best and you are welcome to return to Coppertop in the future!
Spectacular all the way around!
My family & I traveled to Maine for the first time this summer (2018). Choosing this house was easy from the pictures and description and one of the best we've stayed in overall. The pictures were spot on. The home was spotlessly clean, beautiful and very well laid out. Our group had a wide range of ages & ability levels and this home was able to accommodate. My parents don't do stairs well, however, this layout had bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, entry & living space on the main level they really didn't need to go downstairs at all. Not only was the house great, but the recreation and dining guidance from the owner was fabulous. We received a very detailed list of sights, tours, hikes and eats that was tailored to our wide range of abilities. For those who want to cook in, this is a great kitchen. We have been in many other rentals which boast "gourmet kitchen" only to find it unclean and very inadequate. Not this one. This kitchen is thoughtfully stocked (and clean!). The owner was very attentive during our stay and took care of any questions promptly. We would not hesitate to stay in this house again. Loved it!
Thank you for your review! We try to make the house what we ourselves would appreciate in a vacation home so, I thank you for taking the time to write about your experiences at Coppertop. Maybe we are a getting a few things right!
All the very best to your and your family,
This home is perfect in every way. Luxurious and comfortable with beautiful views from every window. We especially enjoyed relaxing on the deck with the views of the water in the mornings and evenings. It is close to all the desirable things that one would want to experience in the area. A most memorable visit that was even more perfect because of the thoughtful details in this property. We are so fortunate to have been able to experience this breathtaking home.
