About Sandy Street
Retired professionals live across the lake on the property and offer on site assistance. Owners are enjoying a second career as ranchers and stewards of the land.
Sandy Street purchased this Chateau / Country House in 1999
Why Sandy Street chose New Ulm
If you want to get away from the city for a week, or weekend, this is the place. Cottage sits within 100+ acre ranch, surrounded by game fence, enclosing exotic deer and cattle. Beautiful skies and trees during the day. Unlimited stars at night.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Explore within 25 miles: RoundTop antiques, Historic Columbus, New Ulm, Cat Spring and LaGrange. Don't miss the Painted Churches tour near Schulenberg. Easy access to I-10 and Metropolitan KATY/Houston area. However, most guests prefer to stay home, home on the ranch, where the deer and the antelope play.
Private getaway with lots of fun activities
My wife and I took our seven kids to this property and we had a blast! The lake was especially nice for fishing, paddling around and for getting out of the Texas heat. Six of the kids (and Dad) all caught fish and we all had fun riding around in the golf cart. The owners live across the lake and they're Texas friendly. Nice getaway for those wanting to get away from it all.
It was a pleasure to host your family. We marveled at how polite and pleasant your 7 children are. Your visit embodied what we try to offer guests: serenity, life off the grid, and renewal in the country. We certainly welcome your return anytime
Beautiful home and lots to do!
We stayed for the first time early this summer and we were taken back on how beautiful the property was and could not wait to return.
We returned last weekend and had a blast again. We setup a projector and watched scary movies, made s’mores, and hot chocolate. The kids love riding around the property and seeing all the animals. They also love playing in the lake and kayaking. We will definitely return again soon!
Rustic but we had everything we needed and more ! Very nice couple that own the place too!!
My family all came for a lovely weekend at the lake. Everything was great and the kids loved the animals and canoe rides !!
Awesome for a total detox.
I stayed at Luther and Sandy's home for my 21st birthday celebration with my family and close friends. I was unaware upon arriving how spotty getting wifi or cell reception was, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It was cozy each day being there and riding the golf cart, swimming, exploring the property, making fires, and the best part turned out to be the disconnect form the outside world. It allowed everybody to connect together and have the best time possible. They both were so welcoming and answered all of the questions I had promptly. Overall, it was amazing! Such a great place for families in the summer.
We are glad you recognized the secret of this place...serenity. We should advertise poor WiFi and cell reception as a plus. Everyone needs to unplug for a while and enjoy face to face contact. We enjoyed watching your family swim and explore. Have another birthday and enjoy it with us.
Great for families!
We brought kids aged 14, 11 and 10, stayed for 2 nights. Beautiful spot & loved that it was private, we had the lake all to ourselves. The younger kids enjoyed the kayaks, paddleboat, swimming in the lake, swimming out to the floating dock, petting the horses & donkeys, feeding the ducks. Our 14 year-old liked driving the golf cart around. We saw axis deer, armadillos, and caught perch off the boat dock in the evenings. Used the firepit, liked that. Woke in the morning to all the cattle at the fence, including an adorable calf. Mama Cow is protective so look out, she chased up for a second, enough to scare us off! We ran in the mornings from one end of the property to the other, it was beautiful. We grocery shopped before we came & brought all we needed with us. The nearest grocery store/Walmart is a bit of a drive from the house. The house was quite charming & comfortable. Know that all bedrooms are upstairs, and share one bathroom upstairs. But the bathroom is quite large with dual sinks. The other full bathroom is downstairs. My only complaint about the house is that it needs some TLC--there are many visible spiders & webs everywhere, the house needs regular/ongoing pest service, the kitchen refrigerator works but isn't aesthetically pleasing, the ceiling fans squeak and kept us awake at night, little things. Overall I would recommend this place for a family getaway, we had a lovely time.
Great place to disconnect and get way from daily life.
Stayed at the Blue House with my family, parents, and sister and her family. Nice country house with an apartment that all had a very relaxed feel to it. Really enjoyed our time on the private lake. We spent plenty of time kayaking, riding the paddle boat, and canoeing. The extra floats in the garage were an added bonus and almost used more than boats as the lake has calm water which allows you to float around. The lake was very clean with fairly clear water which we were told is actually becoming clearer. No alligators to worry about as my brother in law was quick to ask. I really enjoyed fishing daily which you can do from the bank or take out a boat. There are lots of fish in the lake so you shouldn’t have difficulty catching fish. The rest of the property was just what we’re looking for. It’s in the country and very quiet. There is lots of space to explore on bikes and the golf cart. Nice area to run if you are a jogger as I am. We saw exotic deer daily, but they never let you get close. Their two donkeys are very friendly and would stroll up to you or come over if you called. A couple of nice looking horses who are little wary of ppl but friendly enough and often would drink out of the lake close to the house, so they were frequently seen. They had several cattle on the property that we were told were friendly but intimidated several ppl in our party due to their size. We typically stayed on property, but we did venture out to Columbus which was about 15 miles to pick up things at their grocery store and we ate at Los Cabos for a little Mexican food and Schoebels for a little country food with both being very good. My niece age 10 and my teenage kids really enjoyed their time and never seemed to get bored. The adults enjoyed playing with the kids, playing in the lake, as well sitting on the dock, sitting under the Live Oak at water edge when hot while being entertained by the ducks, and doing absolutely nothing while enjoying the views and peacefulness. My parents are already talking about a return trip with some of their friends. If you are looking to get away from things and enjoy the country then I would highly recommend.
