|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
Le Palme stands in the right wing of the villa. It is comfortably furnished with handmade wooden furniture and some antiques. The fully-equipped kitchen is separate. The bathroom with shower enclosure is between the two comfortable bedrooms. Air conditioning is available, as well as the pleasant option of the ceiling fans that, together with the villa's very thick stone walls and the wooden shutters (mosquito nets on all doors & windows ), ensure coolness and let you enjoy the scent of the sea breeze and of the Mediterranean bush.
Try the delicious taste of season fruit, and enjoy cooking or barbecuing with the vegetables and herbs of the garden. The stone-paved patio right outside the sitting-room is fantastic for al-fresco dining under the cool shade of the vine-bower or for just relaxing looking at the olive grove and at the charming seascape. You’ll love the outdoor shower next to the patio and the roof-terrace, perfect for an evening drink, enjoying the marvellous view of the sea
Villa Morocco is a beautiful, recently renovated and well maintained Mediterranean villa, surrounded by a mature, extensive, and luxuriant garden. The villa stands in a magnificent sea view location between the coast villages of Pescoluse and Torre Pali. The villa is very close (only 1500 metres) to the beautiful white sand beaches and crystal-clear Ionian Sea (blue flag). The famous cliffs and caves are also near, just 9km away. Villa Morocco is conveniently situated for sightseeing as it is quite near (just 7 kilometres) to the highway, thus making the tourist towns easy to reach. The villa is shaded by tall pine trees and in its grounds there are also olive, citrus and fruit trees, flowers and rose bushes, and the aromatic plants of the Mediterranean bush. The villa is built around a large inner court with potted plants and it is divided into self-standing, completely independent properties. Each property has two doors, (one leading to the patio and one to the inner court), its own private outdoor areas (large shaded patio, roof terrace) in addition to the villa garden, and a covered parking space inside the gates. From the villa and the grounds you can enjoy delightful sea views.
SEASIDE AND COUNTRYSIDE AND SIGHTSEEING: The location of the villa is quite special: it is a house in the country, but at the same time it is really near the beach (only 1500 mt) and is also close to the highway (just 7 km) and to the coast road (900 metres). You can enjoy the peace and quiet of a country retreat as well as spectacular sea-views but you can also get to the beach in a matter of minutes and to the highway in less than a quarter of an hour. Thus the villa combines the charm of a “masseria” (ancient farm house), surrounded by a very large, mature garden, with the convenience of a seaside accommodation and with the advantage of being extremely well-located for sightseeing as the highway is so near. The extensive grounds of the villa include a pine wood and an olive grove, palms and oleanders, citrus and fruit trees, a little kitchen garden with season produce and a herb patch. Before their arrival, guests will receive a file with some information on restaurants, shops, beach lidos, places worth visiting etc.
LONG, FINE SAND BEACHES & CLIFFS and CAVES: Salve’s coast is mainly composed of long fine sand beaches, all with Blue flag status. There are lidos where you can rent beach umbrellas, etc alternating with “free” beach. The beaches are very clean and the sea is warm and clear. It is safe for young children as the sea bottom slopes gently down.
Going towards S. Maria di Leuca the shore becomes rocky. At the “Porticciolo” beauty spot (9 km from the villa) you can see the first caves, sunbathe on the cliff and dive into the sea.
The boat tours from the crystalline Ionian sea to the sapphire blue Adriatic are a fantastic way of seeing the caves. From S. Maria di Leuca to Otranto, the wonderful coast road is right over the reefs, with spectacular inlets like “il Ciolo”, etc.
The coast is enchanting also on the Ionian side, from Leuca to Gallipoli and Taranto. The magnificent nature and marine reserve of Porto Selvaggio (nature trails in the pine forest) and the splendid reefs of Torre Uluzzo are at 45 minutes’ drive from the villa.
TOURIST TOWNS & SUMMER FESTIVALS: Salento is one of the most beautiful parts of Puglia. Within easy reach from the property you can find the splendours of Baroque art, Norman castles, Roman amphitheatres, frescoes and mosaic floors in churches. Don’t miss the wonderful Lecce, Gallipoli, Galatina, Otranto but also S. Maria di Leuca, Presicce, Alessano, Specchia, Maglie etc are certainly worth a visit. Last but not least, all the landscape is rich in artistic details: Saracen watch-towers, dry-stone walls, the embattled towers of the fortified farmhouses…
Salento is also famous for its delicious food and wine and for its festivals, which take place almost every week in summer and which range from classical music to Lecce’s international rock festival, from the famous “Night of the Taranta” (the heady song and dance “pizzica”) to all the very enjoyable events celebrating typical food and drink (sagre). The people from Salento are wonderfully hospitable and these festivals are a really agreeable part of the holiday.
My husband Patrizio and I live in Udine, a town between Venice and the border with Austria. I grew up here and I went to university at Ca’ Foscari in Venice. I am a teacher, and I work in a secondary school here in Udine.
Elisabetta Bernardini purchased this villa in 2003
My husband and I love Salento, not only for the natural beauty and cultural wealth of its civilization, which is a bridge between the East and the West, but also for the wonderful people who live in this territory. We had been coming here on very enjoyable holidays for a few years when we decided to look for a house to buy. So, in summer 2003 we travelled all around Salento looking at houses, villas, trulli etc. On a sunny day in late August we drove uphill among the Mediterranean bush and the olive trees to visit an old “masseria” which was on sale – it was love at first sight! We immediately decided to buy it and it became Villa Morocco. We think the whole area where the villa is situated is really beautiful - set in a timeless landscape but so close to the ever-changing beauty of the sea. Maybe part of its charm is due to its being a very ancient inhabited site (the Messapic city of Cassandra) – or perhaps to the benevolent spirits that local legends say dwell here …. after all, the villa is quite close to the famous “Cave of the Fairies”!
We love the beautiful shape of the villa, standing proudly on the rock, the sunny court with old cotto tiles, the ancient garden with the tall trees and the flowering shrubs. We enjoy sitting on the terrace and looking at the sea, listening to the crickets’ song in the cool breeze of the evenings or watching the swallows dart against the deep blue sky of the luminous mornings. We also love the variety of the plants of the garden, the Mediterranean bush and the pines behind the villa, the olive grove, the fruit trees and the prickly pears to the south. To us it’s still a great pleasure to cook or barbecue with the oil from our ancient olive trees, each one well known in its individual shape, to pick lemons or figs, or some aromatic herbs in the cotto pots. We love coming home from the sun-drenched beach and have a shower outdoors in the cool, scented shade of the garden…
" Nous avons beaucoup aimé notre séjour à LE PALME. Le calme, les superbes couchers de soleil sur la mer, l'indépendance de chaque petite maison avec son jardin d'oliviers, reliées à une cour qui fait voyager encore plus au sud. Le charme et la gentillesse des hôtes. L'ITALIE comme on l'imagine. Une prestation de haut niveau. Un séjour inoubliable."
English: we, older couple, spent 2 weeks in the apartment Le Palme in Villa Morocco.
A perfect place, really, you can believe every review ad the description of the owner.
For dutch readers I will make my review in Dutch.
Nederlands: Wij waren 2 wekenlang de enige bewoners van de villa. In appartement Le Palme.
Terecht.
We are a family with twins of 4 years old, we spent a great week early September in Le Palme!
The setting is so beautiful among fruit and olive trees. The villa was well equipped and cosy. We enjoyed the roof-top terrace with views out to the Sea and while we were there the sunsets were magnificent.
The layout is such that everyone has lots of space and privacy. The beaches and location are excellent and relatively quiet in September. We highly recommend Villa Morocco for a relaxing week in this very special part of Italy.
Perfect for a get away from it all holiday. The apartment is equipped for all essential needs. The grounds are stunning. The beaches in the locality are excellent and relatively quiet in June. The owner speaks excellent english and was helpful throughout the whole booking process and stay. Highly recommended
it was lovely and elizabetta and silvana were very friendly and helpful
We spent a week at Villa Morocco in mid-October and it was lovely. The setting is so peaceful among fruit and olive trees. Our villa was well equipped and the bottle of wine and olive oil left for us was especially appreciated. We enjoyed the roof-top terrace with views out to the Sea and while we were there the sunsets were magnificent. We were fortunate to be the only guests so we had the entire place to ourselves, but even if other guests had been there, the layout is such that everyone has lots of space and privacy. We highly recommend Villa Morocco for a relaxing week in this very special part of Italy.
We are a family with 2 children, 7 and 10 years old and we spent a great week in Le Palme. We appreciated very much:
1) Owners. Elisabetta and Patrizio were personally very interested in our well-being and helped with recommendations for exploration of the region and simply were very nice people. They speak excellent English and French.
2) Property localisation. The house is located in a peaceful area, in a wonderful garden with olive grove, just a short drive from sandy beach (very few people at the beginning of May and very good swimming place for children). It is also not far away from many nice seafood restaurants. Fresh lemons right from the garden were our everyday delight. Children particularly enjoyed a regular guest - very intelligent neighbours dog.
3) Surrounding region. The holiday house is well located to explore the whole Salento region (Leece, beautiful cost ride to Ostuni, Gallipoli, walking in Parco Naturale di Porto Selvaggio). Also Brindsi airport is just at 1.5-hour distance. The property is best found using TomTom navigation.
We will keep an excellent memory of our holidays this year and would highly recommend this holiday house.
The territory is characterised by the beauty of nature (blue-flag, crystal-clear sea, fine sand beaches, cliffs and caves, luxuriant vegetation) and by its artistic wealth. Elegant Lecce, the “ little Florence of the South”, charming Gallipoli, rightly named “beautiful city” in ancient Greek, Otranto’s mosaics and many small towns with splendid baroque architecture are within easy reach. Don’t miss a drive along the breathtaking coast-road from Leuca to Otranto, the fifth most scenic road in Europe. The territory is also famous for its delicious food, its summer festivals and the warm hospitality. The climate is typically Mediterranean. The warm weather begins in May and continues till mid-October. The hottest months are July and August. In the Italian holiday-season, June to mid-September, the coast villages and beach-lidos are open, there are people and summer events. April, May, September and October are also beautiful, with warm days and desert beaches, and are perfect for sightseeing.
