About Susie & Del Overholser
Susie and I are high school sweethearts and natives of Minnesota. We are concerned for the environment and strive to do our part to improve the world we live in. We love nature, fishing, sailing and the arts. We love to share what we believe are beautiful experiences.
Susie & Del Overholser purchased this Lodge in 2010
Why Susie & Del Overholser chose Longville
We vacationed on Woman Lake years ago. When the opportunity for us to build our own private family lodge on the lake arose we couldn't be more excited. We love views as well as the lake itself so we chose a location that gave us both.
What makes this Lodge unique
We wanted to build a family retreat that presented itself as a true up-north lodge of yesterday yet have it include all the comforts that we all expect today. We call the style of the lodge 'rustic elegance'. The lodge is constructed of Lodge Pole pine and was created by the same company that built Wildness Lodge at Disney World. The logs are actually recycled because there were standing dead timber from Montana. We included into the construction of the lodge three main elements; wood, stone and metal.
Private parties-events only with owners approval.
Please help us keep this a smoke-free building.
The bunk room is great place for the kids.

Family Vacation ~ Extra Special
Wow did we have an amazing week at the Overholser Lodge! Susie and Del have put so much love into the building of this lodge and we seriously used every square inch of their amazing home. We had four families and there was plenty of room for all without feeling like you were stepping on each other. Our kids loved the "squirrel room" where there are many bunk beds plus cubbies with beds so all the cousins could stay together. We have been traveling with extended family for about 20 years and the kids said this was the best yet (including Disney) because we never had to leave the property or lake to have stuff to do and we got to stay together in the house. We loved the movie theatre and used it every night to have a family movie, watching all the classic summer movies like Vacation and Are We There Yet? Best appointed house with an amazing kitchen with everything you could need to cook a great meal. Would recommend this place to all but also selfishly wanted to keep quiet so we can always get a week again in the future.
Great Family Home!
We had a great time with our large family, especially the 11 grandchildren. Highly recommend it!
We have had a large family group of all ages (18 of us on this last visit) stay at Overholser Lodge on two occasions---both times in the peak summer months. It is a beautiful house. There are relatively few large, upscale properties available to rent in northern Minnesota.....fortunately this is a very good choice. The house is very well maintained by the owner. The common areas of the house, including the large great room with high ceilings, a beautiful view, a wall of windows, large dining area and well-equipped kitchen---are the highlight. The outdoor common areas are also beautiful with a great wraparound deck and bluestone terrace below. The owner takes great pride in the house and everything is top quality. We used the kayaks at the house, rented a powerboat which we stored on the lift (I do wish the lift could accommodate a slightly larger boat), brought a standup paddleboard, and made good use of the pool table and cinema room. I have no hesitation in recommending this house if it suits your needs.
Awesome place for Family and Friends
The place was perfect. Susie and Del were quick to respond to any questions we had. Awesome location. We will be back.
The longer we stayed here, the more I fell in love. This place is so comfortable and beautiful and we can't say enough about it. We had quality bonding time. There was 20 women and we felt comfortable. Thank you, Susie!
Not what we were expecting
Beautiful house with an amazing kitchen, dining room and living room but deceivingly advertised. Those looking to rent this house when the temperature nears freezing (~9 mos of the year in Minnesota) should know that the hot tub is not accessible in the cold (because the pump freezes-I thought the point of a hot tub was for cold weather) and the fireplaces in the house are not allowed to be used - they are for decorative purposes only. This is not noted anywhere in the property listing - you find out there is no access to these features 1-2wks before your rental begins. There is no suggestion of any compensation for this although they are front and center in the property listing. Furthermore, the house is in need of some serious maintenance- the surround sound system does not work with 5 different models of iPhone attempted, the juke box does not work, the Netflix and Hulu require your own logins, the door to the master bedroom has a faulty lock, so that the handle does not engage the latch meaning anyone who closes this door is locked in the room(including my 2yo son), pool table has only one pool cue in reasonable condition. Furthermore, it should be noted that there is one bathroom on the upper level of this house and there are 13 beds on that level which is wildly inconvenient. There are ~10 pieces of split wood(1hr of fire) supplied for the outdoor fire pit so bring your own if you want to use that. The dumpster at the top of the driveway was overflowing with trash when we arrived even though the maintenance guy tony had apparently been there several times. Lastly, there are creepy hidden cameras everywhere inside and out of this house - it’s like being on an episode of big brother - we literally spent an afternoon trying to identify all the hidden cameras in this place. In summary, no hot tub, no fireplace, and hidden cameras everywhere really takes away from the private cabin experience we were looking for. Definitely would not return.
This review was very upsetting to read. We have always been blessed with wonderful renters but not this group. I was contacted by this renter days before their stay and asked why they couldn’t use the wood burning fireplace. Our insurance doesn’t allow its use but there are two gas fireplaces to enjoy. He felt I owed him and if I didn’t give him money, he would write a bad review. I’m sorry, I won’t be bullied. Our housekeeping staff gave us a long list of damage this group did. I’m sure this group was trying to cover themselves by posting this review. Broken wine glasses were hidden under couches, a broken chair, wine stained table runners, a broken brass telescope and a completely shredded box spring. Our carpenter made repairs. Their child turned the lock on the handle, closed the door and it locked. Then the child couldn’t unlock it so the renters pried the door damaging the cherry frame and broke the handle. All awhile keys were on site. The bbq grill was taken apart and tossed in the snow, damaged a screen door and ice maker. These renters were very destructive not just to our property but to me as a person. That’s why I couldn’t respond right away without getting upset. All renters receive a welcome letter explaining how everything works in the lodge. This renter didn’t read his letter just like he didn’t the website. I’m not sure why he mentioned the surround sound, it’s not accessed by your cell phone. There is a remote in both the theatre and game room for the tv’s surround sound. We don't have Netflix or Hulu but have Apple TV which is already programmed with our passcodes for your use. Of course you are welcome to enter your own passcodes if you want other services. This renter was here during the biggest two day snow storm in Feb. The city couldn’t plow the roads large enough for the trash to be picked up. Our caretaker hand shoveled for 9 hrs the lower steps, patio and fire pit areas. They were set up with plenty firewood in the -60 degrees weather. Years ago we had a company come and install security cameras at our lodge. They installed cameras covering entrances for our security only. When you have a multi-million dollar home you need to protect it and feel safe. I wished when they wasted an afternoon looking for cameras they would have written, they didn’t find any. Sad, they think the world is so awful and sick. Our housekeeping staff said it best, “how could someone want to cause so much damage to such a beautiful place?”
Overholser Lodge is located on the Woman Lake chain of lakes which encompasses over 5,500 acres of water. You can boat directly into the nearbye town of Longville. Every Wednesday the town hosts the weekly Turtle Races right on main street.
