We would like to thank you for taking time to explore the possibilities of Overholser Lodge. Our 7 bedroom, 6 bathroom private lodge sleeps 20-22 adults in beds plus there are 2 roll aways to bring the capacity to 24. We also have a pac and play for the baby available and a toddler cot. Just completed in 2012 we constructed the lodge as our private family retreat. Once you experience it you'll understand why we want to share it.
Approaching the main entrance you will walk up large cut stone steps to a flagstone patio that leads you to the bluestone portico. In front of you are two large hand carved wooden doors. As you enter our home you will immediately feel engulfed by nature. The elements of wood, metal and stone are used throughout. The log stairs lead to the bridge level which incorporate a metal cutout railing depicting nature scenes with numerous animals hidden for the kids to discover. The great-room is two stories high and has a large flagstone fireplace and massive log trusses. It makes the ideal gathering place. The expansive walls of glass open up the lodge to the impressive views of the main part of Woman Lake.
This exquisite lodge features three private suites all with en suite bathrooms. On the main level is the Master suite, which walks out to the lakeside deck. It includes a romantic gas fireplace and a king size Tempurpedic bed while the en suite bath has a large stone shower and an exquisite all copper bathtub. Capacity: 2
On the lower level are the other two bedroom suites with en suite baths. On the lakeside is the Brown Room which walks out to the lower patio and has a queen size timber frame bed. Its bathroom has a vessel sink and glass shower. Capacity: 2-3*
Across the hall on the roadside is the Green Room. It has a queen size sleigh bed and its bathroom has a bathtub with shower. Capacity: 2-3*
One of the nicest bedrooms in the lodge is the Blue Room up on one end of the bridge level. Although it shares a large bathroom with the bunk room from across the bridge it can be set up as its own private suite with en suite bath by closing the outer door to the bridge. The bedroom has a cape cod style queen size bed. There is also a fun place for the kids to play in or sleep-out. The bathroom has two sinks and a jetted bathtub with shower. Capacity: 2-3*
Across the bridge is the Squirrels Nest Bunk Room. There are four timber frame bunk beds each with two single beds. On opposite ends are two hidden nooks each with one twin bed. Capacity: 10
On the opposite end of the lower level from the Brown Room and Green Room is an Art Room that is set up as a bedroom with log furniture and a full size bed. Capacity: 2-3* Across the hall is the Library that can serve overflow sleeping with its pull-down full size Murphy bed. Capacity: 2
Serving the Art Room and Library sleeping quarters is the lower level game room bathroom that has a full glass shower and two sinks.
(*= with rollaway, bedroll) All king, queen and full size beds have pillow top mattresses for the most luxurious sleep you can imagine. All linens and towels (except beach towels so bring your own) are included and there are two sets of full size washers and dryers, one on the bridge level and one on the lower level in the exercise room. You will find an iron and ironing board in the Blue Room and Brown Room.
Areas of Enjoyment!
Back on the main level opposite the great-room is the dining room with its massive custom barnwood table made from recycled wood from two-hundred year old New England barns. Adjoining is the open kitchen that allows interaction with the rest of the family during meal preparation. The appliances are all top-of-line stainless steel such as a six burner Wolf induction cooktop and full-size Jenn-Aire double convection oven. The Fisher-Paykel dishwasher is two drawer for convenient clean-up. There is a large Jenn-Aire refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen and also a additional full-size refrigerator and full-size freezer in the separate cater's area. On one end of the large kitchen is the coffee/wine bar with wine cooler, coffee makers and sink. On the other side of the kitchen is the copper farm house sink and in the center is the large granite island with built-in microwave and five stools. Just outside is the grilling deck with a large gas grill for those barbecues. Everything needed to prepare a meal is at hand such as pots, pans, many baking and cooking utensils, blender, food processor, plastic storage bowls, etc. and of course place settings. We even include spices, aluminum foil and cellophane wrap, tea and starter coffee with filters.
Just off the cater's area is a powder room with a barn-wood cabinet and vessel sink.
There is a wrap around deck covering the entire lakeside that has a nice comfortable seating area for quiet conversation or that relaxing morning cup of coffee. Mornings are our favorite time on the upper deck, just sitting and taking in the peace and solitude and watching the squirrels jumping from tree to tree. It makes our morning cup of coffee feel like so much more. Step down from the deck onto the bluestone terrace where there are a number of tables and chairs for eating. Here you will be looking for that waiter as if you're at a five star resort.
Back downstairs in the lower level is the Game Room with a wet bar with refrigerator, sink and dishwasher. Next to the bar is a exercise room with a treadmill and elliptical to keep you in shape. Around the corner from the bar is a two person sauna which can be used wet or dry. The entertainment area takes up the remaining space and includes a gas fireplace, a large 65' LCD 3D TV with satellite receiver, a DVD player and a Xbox 360 game console. There is a pool table, a foosball table and a multi-game video and finally the juke box. Just off the game room is the private library for your reading getaway (new books are always welcome). Step outside of the game room onto the outside lower patio and you'll see a hammock, an outdoor shower and another flagstone patio with a six person hot tub that overlooks the lake for relaxing after a fun filled day. Nearby you'll find a fire pit for those evening gatherings of storytelling and roasted marshmallows.
For extra fun and the best view you'll find a spiral staircase up to the lookout tower. This is the perfect place for some solitude.
Down the breezeway just past the tower stairs you'll find a staircase that will lead you up to the Cinema, an actual eighteen person theater for your private movie enjoyment or business meeting. The 1080p HD projector is supplied by media from a BlueRay DVD player, Satellite TV or AppleTV with access to Netfilx. There is a wet bar with refrigerator and a full size popcorn maker.
The lodge is family friendly with different zones for different activities. You'll find areas to engage in conversation, areas for fun, as well as areas for privacy and relaxation.
For music lovers enjoy the Russound Collage system with ten locations of in-wall music with access to local radio stations or play your personal music streamed directly from your own iPod.
For those who feel the need for connectivity to the outside world, there is Wi-Fi Internet with reception from everywhere inside the lodge not to mention almost anywhere on the property including the decks. Its password protected for your personal use.
Although the lodge is a getaway in itself, Women Lake is the real draw and it's just steps away. Walk down the meandering paths and find yourself at a large dock complex. Here there are steps into the water for easy access to swimming or if you prefer, run and jump off the end of the dock! The shoreline is boulder like however the lake bottom is hard sand with small rocks disappearing as you move out. The water depth is less than two feet at the steps and approximately six feet at the end of the dock. There are two benches to sit on and watch the kids swim or the activity of the lake. Around the corner are two covered slips each with 17' Alumacraft fishing boats both equipped with depth finders, live wells and trolling motors. Each are available for rental either daily or weekly. This season we bought a boat lift for renters boats or pontoons to protect our dock system. We have sustained damage to our docks and don't allow tie ups. This lift can be used by the lodge or the guest cabin upon request, free of charge. The docks are shared with our Guest Cabin.
Our driveway area can easily park six vehicles with another two parking spaces across the road so no need to park and walk a long way.
If your group needs even more space or a smaller space consider renting our Guest Cabin next door. You'll find it on VRBO under listing number 375696. It's a beautiful log cabin that sleeps up to ten. Rent both and receive a discount.
If you are seeking a rustic retreat filled with luxurious amenities on the shores of Woman Lake then we invite you to check us out. We would be honored to have you vacation in our private lodge and feel the peace and quiet that we love to enjoy.
Susie and I are high school sweethearts and natives of Minnesota. We are concerned for the environment and strive to do our part to improve the world we live in. We love nature, fishing, sailing and the arts. We love to share what we believe are beautiful experiences.
Susie & Del Overholser purchased this lodge in 2010
We vacationed on Woman Lake years ago. When the opportunity for us to build our own private family lodge on the lake arose we couldn't be more excited. We love views as well as the lake itself so we chose a location that gave us both.
We wanted to build a family retreat that presented itself as a true up-north lodge of yesterday yet have it include all the comforts that we all expect today. We call the style of the lodge 'rustic elegance'. The lodge is constructed of Lodge Pole pine and was created by the same company that built Wildness Lodge at Disney World. The logs are actually recycled because there were standing dead timber from Montana. We included into the construction of the lodge three main elements; wood, stone and metal.
Dale and Susie created a masterpiece in the Overholser Lodge. The attention to detail is evident everywhere you look. We hosted our wedding here and also used the guest house for additional accommodations. We used the extensive landscaping in the front yard along with the covered entrance as a backdrop for many photos. Our ceremony, live music and seating for dinners was in the backyard. We rented a pontoon and used the dock system to explore the lake (even caught a few fish off the dock!). The movie theater was a big bonus for showing a video and the kids watching a movie.
The caterers out of Walker (Green Scene) were recommended by Susie and were fantastic. We couldn't have found better hosts and setting for this very special weekend. 5 stars all around!
Everything was perfect. We went with our children and grandchildren, and "a good time was had by all ".
The Lodge so spacious and beautiful, with plenty of top-of-the-line amenities, which are described in other reviews. What makes it even more wonderful is that Del and Susie take such a personal interest in making sure that their guests' experiences are the best. They are very proud of the property, with good reason. They met us there for a tour a year before the date of our vacation and spent a lot of time explaining the area and answering our questions and emails in the months leading up to our vacation.
We had an amazing time at the Lodge for our annual extended family vacation and appreciate all that the Overholsers did to make it so memorable.
The lodge is absolutely stunning--like a five-star hotel, with gorgeous, top-of-the-line furnishings and amenities that just won't quit, such as a game room, movie theater, sauna, workout room, hot tub, and much more. The kitchen was really well stocked, and included appliances such as two refrigerators, a panini sandwich maker, two waffle irons, multiple coffee makers, and on and on.
We rented it (and the guest house next door) for a family reunion/80th birthday/50th wedding anniversary gathering, and it suited our purposes perfectly, with plenty of beds and bathrooms to give everyone privacy. Plus we took advantage of all the amenities: used the big tv and wii for games and dance contests; played foosball and pool; viewed movies; played outdoor games; made puzzles; swam and fished; took saunas and sat in the hot tub; had a sing-along around the fire pit. Something for everyone.
The mattress in the master bedroom far surpassed our mattress at home. The lake-side setting was a gorgeous. The various outdoor seating areas provided lots of options for gatherings in the sun and in the shade. All in all, we were living in the lap of luxury.
Week long celebration of family at this beautiful lodge in late December. Where to start? The kitchen perhaps because that seems to be where our family congregates. It was well equipped and the freezer/refrigerator space was VERY adequate. The overall space was big enough for lots of "cooks in the kitchen". With 18 to 20 family members from 18 months to 80 years of age participating in games, puzzles, conversation and movies at the same time in different areas of the house everyone had their space. The theater was used a lot for watching movies and sporting events. The hot tub was a hit as was the outdoor fire pit. Ice fishing not so good but that's the chance you take! Susie and Del were always available via emails for questions. The décor, detail and cleanliness of this house is commendable . The Overholsers have created a beautiful, comfortable lodge for making memories. Some of our extended family rented the guest cabin which was a plus!
A group of 25 of us rented the lodge and guest house for a 2-night girlfriends getaway. We were amazed by the view and loved all the features the lodge had to offer. We enjoyed meals on the patio, soaking in the hot tub, movies in the theater, an outdoor fire, and just relaxing and catching up. We thought all the beds were very comfortable. Susie was very helpful in answering all of our questions prior to our stay. One point to warn folks on, however: although it says it sleeps 25, I think 20 adults would probably be the maximum for comfort.
Overholser Lodge is located on the Woman Lake chain of lakes which encompasses over 5,500 acres of water. You can boat directly into the nearbye town of Longville. Every Wednesday the town hosts the weekly Turtle Races right on main street.
