The original Farmhouse and Metato (chestnut drying store) was built in 1840 and abandoned in 1946. The property was a total ruin and the restoration, completed in 2009, used traditional materials such as chestnut beams yet incorporating modern standards and and facilities. In the Parco Naturale delle Alpi Apuane on the south facing slopes overlooking the Turrite Valley across to the Alpi beyond in about 5 acres with a 10m pool. There is a gated access from the public road down to a parking area sufficient for up to 6 cars, (plenty of room for ball games}. From the parking area, proceeding towards the main house you will first pass the pool on your right followed by the entrance to the top Metato (king size bedroom with en-suite) followed by the entrance to the lower Metato (twin bedroom with en-suite). The farmhouse is entered on the middle level into the fully equipped kitchen. The separate dining room is on the left and on the right the sitting room, which extends out on to a veranda. The upper level has the main kingsize double bedroom, a single bedroom and a bathroom. The lower floor has two twin bedrooms, a bathroom and utility a room. The adjacent Metato has a kingsize double bedroom and twin bedroom, both with en-suite and separate entrances. All the rooms are furnished in a similar way to the photos. The pool area can be enclosed and has a gate and the area outside the ground floor is also fenced although the grounds extend further. There is an outside dining area with BBQ and there are several separate area in which to relax and plenty of recreational space for children to play. Free unlimited wifi and mobile phone reception is excellent.

About Michael Barton
We are British couple living in the UK and have been regular visitors to Italy since purchasing a village house in San Cassiano near Bagni di Lucca 1988. Now recently retired we hope to be able to spend much more time in Italy. A chance encounter in 1994 with the UK Estate Agent who sold us the property led to the purchase of this property. 'A total ruin in a great location, excellent views but no vehicular access, no electricity, no water and as it is in a National Park you may have some planning issues' was how he described the property.

As you can see from the above photograph the property was in a state of total ruin. We thought that for a property that had been on this site for centuries should not be allowed to be reclaimed by the trees. There is a date stone above the front door with the date 1840 carved with various initials.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The property can be used for up to 11 people by families by using all the property. An alternative arrangement is that 4 couples each have a floor to themselves to include a bathroom and privacy for each couple. Although less than a kilometer from the nearest village of Vallico di Sopra the property is accessed by a public paved road and is totally private. The 5 acre (2 hectare property is mostly wooded with some olive and fig trees and vines planted around the house with plenty of different outdoor locations to relax. All rooms have extensive views over the Turrite Cava valley, known locally as 'La Valle del Profondo Verde' (The Deep Green Valley). There are several excellent reasonably priced restaurants serving typical local produce as well as international dishes within 5km. The local town of Fabbriche di Vallico is 3km on the river and has restaurants, grocery shops, cafes, butchers, hairdresser and ATM. Groceries can be delivered both before arrival and during your stay by arrangement. One of the local restaurants will deliver pizzas and full menus by arrangement so you can enjoy a fully prepared meal at the property without the need to drive.
Pool / Spa
Great location if you love the mountains.
Authentic and well renovated farm house with all essential amenities, including dishwasher with is appreciated when you are nine people in the house (it fits 11). Access to the house requires some careful driving up the mountain (about 15 minutes), but you are rewarded by the most spectacular view. We did some day trips to Lucca, Pisa and Cinque Terre, as well as shorter trips to Grotto del Vente and Ponte delle Maddalena. Just as much time was spent at the very nice pool which is a lifesaver during the height of summer. This house and location is highly recommended if you value privacy, quiet surroundings and great views, and don't mind the drive up and down the mountain.
The property is located less than 3km from the town of Fabbriche di Vallico which has shops, restaurants, ATM, etc and is by the river at the bottom of the Turrite Cava valley. The public road is fully paved up to the property and there is plenty of private on site parking.
Idyllic Tuscan Holiday
We stayed in the villa in August for 11nights. In total there were 9 people in our group. The villa is fantastic - it comfortably sleeps 9 people (and more!) and was very well equipped, clean and in a beautiful location. The villa is located in the mountainous region of Tuscany and is remote, however it is a short (20minute) drive down the mountain to supermarkets etc. The villa is very well equipped - especially the kitchen - and Mike (the owner) has kindly provided lots of information about local activities and restaurants which made our stay very enjoyable. The villa is beautifully restored and the pool and sun terrace area are perfect for relaxing. The villa was very clean and tidy and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would highly recommend this villa to anyone thinking of travelling to Tuscany for a holiday with family and friends.

Comfortable and spacious accommodation for four families, including three under-4's. Lovely pool and spacious grounds with good shade, outside eating areas etc. Huge views, and no traffic noise. We were very reluctant to leave!
We had a very happy week at Tagoli with our family (7 adults). We arrived very late due to our flight being redirected so had no idea of the beautiful surroundings until the following morning. We had taken advantage of a grocery delivery from the local shop prior to our arrival so were able to make the most of our first meal on the balcony overlooking the valley. This became a feature of our stay with at least one meal per day being taken there, with the autumn sunshine ensuring that we were comfortably warm.
The accommodation was ideal for us and everywhere was very clean and the kitchen well equipped.
We made use of the pool each day of our stay and thoroughly enjoyed walking along the lanes locally. The trip to Lucca was a highlight of our holiday and we had a lovely day wandering through the town. We all enjoyed a celebratory birthday meal at Da Sandra. We would highly recommend the villa and would love to return there one day

Sandra's Restaurants is probably one on the finest and is less the a kilometre away.
For a true authentic rustic Family restaurant you have got to try Renaldos, It is a jewel hidden away in the Village of Foccia only about 5 kilometres from Tagoli.
Tagoli is a great place to experience a true Tuscan lifestyle.
we stayed at Tagoli with friends in July 2011 and had a wonderful time. The villa is set in remote woodlands high up in the national park where you feel truly secluded and away from it all. The directions provided were excellent - we opted to arrive from a different direction than the recommended route and ended up wonderfully lost! So, our first hint is to follow the directions provided! The accommodation is luxurious and well appointed with ample room for everyone in this sprawling hideaway. The outdoor dining area and barbecue offer a true al fresco Tuscan experience but the lure of Da Sandra restaurant just a few miles down the road might restrict its use! Sandra and her food are AMAZING and people come from miles around to sample her delights...make sure you arrive on an empty stomach! Other delights here are a large pool and excellent sun beds and the immediate vicinity offers great walks and hiking opportunities to explore this wonderful park. We hiked out to the neighbouring village, Vallico Di Sopra, which was a gentle 3 hour jaunt across the hills with picnic spots galore. The nice thing about this remote area is that you are unlikely to see another tourist whichever direction you take! Altogether fabulous!
The Tagoli Casa Colonica (farmhouse) is situated less than a kilometre from the village of Vallico di Sotto which is in the commune of Fabbriche di Vallico in the Val di Turrite. The Turrite River flows down the valley to join the Serchio River in the Garfagnana Valley opposite the city of Barga. The farmhouse is in the national park 'Parco Naturale delle Alpi Apuani' which covers the mountain range between the Garfagnana valley and the coast of the Riviera delle Versilia. As well as innumerable villages the towns of Barga, Castelnuovo and Bagni di Lucca are nearby and the natural features of the Grotto di Vento (wind caves) the Orrido di Botri (gorge), Carrera marble and the Prato di Fiorito (Field of Flowers). The Tuscan cities of Lucca, Sienna, Florence, Pistoia,Pisa are within an easy drive as is the Versilian coast. There are activities in the area such as walking, pony trekking, canoeing and a visit to Pinnochio at Collodi. There is a wide choice of traditional reasonable priced Tuscan restaurants nearby. There is a shop (deliveries possible), butcher, bars and restaurants, ATM in the nearby village, 3km. Large supermarket 10km.

A deposit of 25% is taken on booking with the remainder payable two months before letting commences. A security deposit is required of £250 or 300euros per stays of up to two weeks. An standard allowance is made for fuel usage in the above rates to cover normal cooking and washing. If the central heating is used then there will be a metered charge for the additional fuel used.
