Guests love our remodeled and updated nantucket style beach cottage! Come enjoy a clean, carefully decorated, vacation get-a-way. Our porches, carpet, bathrooms, central AC, were all newly updated in 2013. We've added Wi-Fi access, cable and new flat screen televisions. We just updated all the den furniture too including a new sofa. Enjoy preparing a dinner of local seafood in the remodeled kitchen and eat out on our new screened in porch. Sleep 8 comfortably in 3 bedrooms including 2 queen sized beds, bunk bed with a single and double bed, and single bed, 2 bathrooms and outdoor shower. A hammock under a Live Oak, porch swing, and rockers await your summer reading.
We are just blocks from the beach and 1.7 miles from the Sanderling Inn and only 2.2 miles from the village of Duck, NC. A great location for weddings, honeymoons, and family reunions, our OBX beaches were rated #1 by US Travel. To make your visit more pleasant, we rent Sunday to Sunday, to avoid the change over gridlock.
We are both educators. I am an artist and my wife, Robin, works with Autistic students. We love Duck for the wonderful people, and the unforgettable beauty of the sound, sea, and maritime woodlands. We have spent many summers at this cottage and are happy to give you tips on where and what to enjoy in the area. Ask us about our favorite walking paths, the hidden ship wreck, and favorite coffee houses!

After many summers of enjoying the beach with our children and family, I and my wife have lovingly restored and updated our family's cottage and hope to share and enjoy it for years to come.
More modest than an ocean front rental, but more than your average beach box, this cottage is perfect for a family that is looking for a home away from home experience. Newly remodeled, the Nantucket style exterior just says 'relax.' Throughout the downstairs warm cypress paneling welcomes you and your family inside while the new screened in porch is perfect for resting between trips to the beach, sound, shopping, or bike path. Updated with new AC, the cottage is also designed to capture the summer breezes from all directions and with two sun decks, swing, picnic tables, a Live Oak shaded hammock, and more. There are plenty of places to enjoy family, or a good book, in the out of doors.
Our family truly loved our stay in this house. It's only a short stroll to the beach, where we spent most of our time, but we wouldn't have been sad if there had been bad weather days, because the cottage is so welcoming and well-organized. It has a top-floor deck for watching the thousands of stars and the Milky Way at night, a screened-in porch for reading and drinking tea outside without getting sunburned (or wet, if it's raining), and a ping-pong table under the house on the garden level, to play at the end of the day. We did all of the above! The house is on a quiet street, and we slept peacefully at night--hard to believe it was the busy month of August! It's an easy walk to the Sound side, too, where we all walked one evening to watch the herons, geese, and sunset.
The owners have furnished the house with many thoughtful touches. There are lovely paintings and photographs (much of it the work of the owner, I believe) on the walls, and lots of beach treasures to admire inside and out. It's obviously a well-loved house. We were thrilled to find beach chairs, umbrellas, and boogie boards there so we didn't have to pack our own. And we could see the house is supplied with lots of other beach equipment, too, geared toward children younger than our two.
The owner kindly gave us tips about local sights and services and responded to questions both before and during our stay. But because we were enjoying the beach and the house so much, we didn't make many shopping trips: an afternoon to stock up at the Food Lion; a couple of morning runs to Tommy's Market for pastry; and Scarborough Faire for the wonderful Island Bookstore and shops, none of these very far away. We were all sorry to leave and are already discussing when to return!
This rental house was great! Our group of 7 had a great time here while vacationing in Duck. The ocean was an easy stroll to the end of the street, and we appreciated all the beach gear that was available for us to use. The owner was fantastic to deal with, and even called the day we checked in to make sure everything was as we expected. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if we ever decide to vacation in the OBX again.
I just adore how charismatic this home is (3) years later. It's still fantastic, clean full of positive energy and has not taken a toll for the worse as some homes do. It's well kept for, which is evident that it's valuable and tons of effort and energy was placed in this treasure to keep it up!
I loved the new addition to the ping pong table! It was fun and happy to find that surprise.
My only concern was that folks aren't replacing what they take, which hurts my feelings for Todd because I know the connection to the house. If folks would be kind to replace items they use, like once did, it would be so appreciated.
I just love the house, thus will always remain my "go to" family vacation home for as long as it's around!!! I love you Todd!!!! Good luck and thanks again!!!!
I highly recommend this home. It was clean, comfortable, and had lots of space for our family of six. We especially appreciated the washer/dryer, updated bathroom, bedrooms, stocked kitchen, relaxing porch, and all of the details the owners put into the home. We would have had to stay another week to appreciate everything that was offered to our family. The beach chairs and umbrella were an extra bonus for our time on the beach. In our down time, our family enjoyed the TV and comfortable furniture. Our boys loved the rocking chairs. The cottage is located near shopping and many things to do in area. We went to the light house, aquarium, sand dunes, and much more. The owner was GREAT with communication and was very helpful when we had questions!! We will definitely be back :) Thank you for a great week in the OBX.
Due in no small part to this well-kept property in such a fantastic
setting, my family and I had a great week at the beach!
Once again, The Odd Duck Inn was our sanctuary- family vacation! The house was updated with beautiful touches! The home continues to give the sense of that homey feeling In which I love! Will continue to visit! Thanks Todd!!!
Located in SoundSea Village, our cottage is in a family friendly community with old school sand roads. We are on a quiet cul de sac with no through traffic just 3 minutes from the beach and 2 miles from the beautiful village of Duck. Bike or jog there on the well loved walking/biking trail that stretches for miles north and south. We have private access to an uncrowded, wide, and clean beach. Jet ski, skim board, and kayak rentals for enjoying the near-by Currituck Sound are just a block away. Sunsets over the Sound and milky way viewing from our top deck are a must experience. Great location for a family reunion or fall wedding on the beach with other rent by owner cottages within walking distance. An Environmental Center, lighthouse tour, Wild Horse tour, and historic WhaleHead Mansion are just up the beach in Corolla.

Please note we rent Sunday to Sunday. This is to help our guests avoid the gridlock on Saturdays, the traditional check in and check out day. Why pay good money to spend many extra hours sitting in your car, just miles from your cottage?
