Sink your toes into the sand or lace up your hiking boots knowing that there's a lovely little cottage waiting for you to come home to!
Deani and Todd Higashi have been residents of the Wailua Homesteads for nearly 30 years. Both locals of this gorgeous island, they have chosen to raise their five children and two grandchildren nestled amongst the lush greenery of Kauai. Todd, a longtime surfing instructor, spends his days teaching young and old alike to learn to surf the beautiful waters, and Deani works overlooking and maintaining gorgeous properties around the Garden Island. Both love spending time with their beautiful 'ohana!
Deani Higashi purchased this cottage in 1988
Upon seeing the Wailua Homesteads, Todd and Deani fell instantly in love and knew this was the place to raise their family together. Away from the hustle and bustle of Kapa'a and other nearby towns, this upcountry farmland estate provided a safe, quiet place for their multiple children and grandchildren to play safely and enjoy true island living. The seperate cottage was built in 1990 as a longterm rental on the edge of the property and remodeled just last year, and Deani and Todd decided to turn it into a vacation rental in order to provide more opportunity for others to experience beautiful Kauai!
Quiet, clean, and off the beaten path, this cottage provides you with ample opportunity to disappear into local culture and get away from tourists! Listen to the lush sounds of local tropical birds and animals -- no traffic here! Enjoy true country living in the lap of luxury. Aloha and Mahalo!
This was great! A true luxury place ... we enjoyed it a lot. Everything (and more) was there what we needed: coffee, cereals, even a bottle of wine. And beach towels etc. Deani was a great host, 150% recommendable! :)
My boyfriend and I loved this place. It was well stocked with all the goodies (beach towels, chairs, etc) we would need for a relaxing trip. The cottage is in a quiet but nice neighborhood. We loved it and would come back again
Everything with the house was perfect. It was close enough to towns so we could get places easily, yet far enough away to allow adequate relaxation.
Clean kitchen, plenty of cooking utensils, and an available grill gave us plenty of opportunity to dine at the house. I can't recommend this rental enough!
This cottage was so much like home, because it was supplied with everything you could possibly need for cooking, BBQing, beaching, etc. We enjoyed our stay for 10 days. We even enjoyed the roosters. We would most definitely recommend this cottage to anyone that would like a private getaway that is centrally located on Kauai, and just up the hill from a beautiful beach. Candace and Elvin
The cottage was perfect for our needs. We enjoyed the BBQ, comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, and nice location only 10 mins away from all the shops and restaurants. We like A/C but didn't find we needed it at all. Definitely will be back!
My wife and I had the opportunity to spend the week in Li'i Lani at the beginning of February. We spent the days exploring the island and found it an excellent location to explore from. It is in the middle of the east coast and is a great location to head north or south. I think a car would be required for the best stay at this location as it is up in the highlands. The cottage is completely self contained with all the cooking utensils and ware needed. We found the washer and dryer very useful when we would come back from hikes to the north quite muddy. There is a hose at the corner of the house that we could rinse the mud out of our clothes and shoes and then use the washer and drier to get everything ready for the next day. I enjoyed getting up in the morning and opening the door looking up at Nounou in a very peaceful neighborhood. The yard is very well cared for and the quiet is wonderful. Every night the house cooled down wonderfully and I was grateful for the comforter that was on the bed. The bed is excellent and we had great sleeps. The welcoming basket was great and we had snacks for the week and the homemade goodies presented on the first day were a special treat. The only negative was that we arrived late at night (the cottage was very well prepared) and then the owner, Deani, I believe was called away to the mainland the next day and we never had a chance to meet her and tell her what a wonderful accommodation she offered us. We hope to return and stay there again and let her know personally!
The greatest part about staying in the Wailua area is the central location. You can easily travel to the north or south or west side of the island. You may want to consider one of the fabulous Luas or ATV tours or a zip line adventure. If that seems a little too much then take a drive around the island and catch the view of waterfalls.
