About the property

3 bedroom farmhouse sleeping 6 in the Dordogne in over an acre of woods/prairie

Our south facing farmhouse dates back to the 17th century and has been fully restored whilst maintaining its original style and character. It has beautiful wooden chestnut floors in the first floor bedrooms which forms the beamed ceiling for the kitchen and living room below. We have exposed stonework on various walls with an oak staircase leading from the kitchen to the upstairs. The attractive glazed arrow slit windows are a feature of the living room which has patio doors leading to the tranquil outdoor area. There are views of meadows, garden and/or woodland from all of the farmhouse windows. This edge of woods farmhouse home has a feeling of tranquillity and seclusion with lots of relaxing space; it is in an area where you can rely on not being disturbed.

There is a well equipped kitchen which houses a large sociable table, sofa and children’s toys (if needed). The kitchen leads to an outdoor patio eating area with a large table, parasol and BBQ.

We have a new swimming pool with roman steps which is equipped with a safety cover. There are comfortable sun loungers, parasols and tables on the patio area near the pool.

Our welcome pack for your arrival includes wine, biscuits, tea and milk to allow you to begin your holiday comfortably.

You can soak up the wonderful atmosphere at Sans Souci, and relax in the perfect sanctuary of our farmhouse. If you also want to explore the area, you will be spoilt for things to do. Several of the most beautiful villages in France are within a 40min drive away including Monpazier, Limeuil and Belves. There are river boat cruises at Beynac, Roque Gageac and Bergerac. There is a forest adventure park near Sarlat. The historic capital of the Dordogne is Perigeux with its spectacular cathedral. St Emillion, the oldest wine area of the Bordeaux region is within easy reach by car. Caves at Lascaux approximately 17,300 years old with stunning and unique cave paintings are not to be missed for anyone interested. Children’s activities include the nearby aqua park, indoor and outdoor play parks, & various museums. La Bugue area has lots of family activities including amusements, aquarium, an animal park and a themed village.

The farmhouse has good level wheelchair access at the front doors which leads to the ground floor bedroom and level access shower. The ground floor beds have been purchased with disabled people in mind and the level access shower area has a higher toilet, flip down shower seat and wide basin. Of course this area is suitable for everybody, including children.

We have plenty of varied and interesting wildlife living close by. Red squirrels & birds can be seen in the garden and if you keep your eyes peeled, there are deer, hares and otters around locally.

Local amenities: The medieval village of Issigeac, about 3km from the farmhouse, with its local shops, (there are larger supermarkets within a twenty minute drive) good restaurants, and bakers. The market on Sunday mornings is well worth the short trip. Get there early as it can get very busy, but there is plenty of parking. The tourist office in Issigeac is very helpful, but we also keep a selection of brochures in the house for our guest’s information.

The tourist office has free internet which means you can use it while sat enjoying a nice glass of wine or coffee at the local cafe.

The outdoor pictures for Sans Souci are due to be updated imminently as we now have a good covering of grassy lawn. We are happy for you to bring one small well behaved dog. The property is strictly no smoking. Heating is included in the price (if needed). We have a travel cot and high chair as well as a selection of toys for the little people, which help’s keep them busy while parents can relax. The living room is equipped with Sky TV. There are a selection of books, DVDs, CDs and games. You will find a folder full of information on local facilities and things to do in the kitchen. Outside of the high summer bookings (July to mid September) we offer a discount for couples, and further discount for a booking of two or more weeks. We also have various special offers throughout the year so please keep an eye on the web-site.

Issigaec is a stunning old village, bread shop, fabulous Sunday market.....not to be missed.

Very pretty area, close to Bergerac and airport.

Everything outstanding

The house is in a beautiful setting and well designed for a holiday for 6. The swimming pool was a great success with children and adults and the terrace was sheltered with nice sun shades. The area is beautiful and we were very taken by Issigeac and Bergerac.

Best family sized property we've ever stayed in

We spent two weeks at Sans Souci during August - my wife, mother-in-law, 1yr old twins, a three year old and I. Despite the size of our party, the Gite was more than big enough to cope. It is a beautiful property inside and out, everything is of high quality and we wanted for nothing during our holiday - there is even a decent collection of toys for the kids!!! The owners have thought of things that even we hadn't.

All of the bedrooms are large, the kitchen is massive and well equipped, there are 3 modern bathrooms and everything works as it should. You can see no expense has been spared on this property.

Outside, the covered seating area is brilliant, the gas bbq is big enough to feed a large family and the pool area is immaculate and again the outside furniture down to the parasols is very high quality.

The location is about perfect, very peaceful, plenty of space yet only 2.5miles (I clocked it on gps!) from Issigeac, our favourite of the Bastide towns in this part of France. Whilst it is of course walkabe/cycleable, you do really need a car as Issigeac is where the nearest shops/bakers/butchers/restaurants etc are. However, you can get everything you need in Issigeac, it's a beautiful little town. Get there early for the Sunday morning market (gets crazy busy) and for the various evening food markets as these are also getting busier every year. There are brilliant bakers and butchers in Issigeac but for the big supermarket shop, you're not far from Bergerac where you have every big chain present.

All in all, a brilliant holiday in a perfect Gite. Yes, it is expensive but you absolutely get what you pay for. Book this with absolutely no worries about what you'll find when you get there - it's categorically a 5 star Gite.

Fantastic gite

We had a great time at Sans Souci. We have stayed in many gites across France but this was one of the best; spacious, clean and very well equipped. Pool a real boon on hot days and if you have easily bored teenagers in tow. It's in a quiet hamlet just a few minutes drive from the lovely village of Figeac and not far from wine tasting opportunities around Bergerac and Monbazillac. Lots of chateaux, bastide towns and canoeing opportunities not far away. Would love to come back again!

Wonderful family holiday

Absolutely brilliant 3 weeks spent in an immaculate home.

Great pool and superb sitting out area. Lovely area, so close to the beautiful town of Issigneac with it's wonderful night markets. I could run into town each day @2miles. Loved it. Thankyou

Idyllic property and location

Better than described, this is a really well presented property in terms of the quality of restoration, condition and facilities. The location is peaceful and pleasant but only a 3km drive from Issigeac, we regularly walked into the village for fresh bread, to sit outside a café, or to dine. Don't miss the Sunday market here. Sans Souci also provided us with a central base for touring the area, Monpazier being an old favourite of ours. Fly into Bergerac and hire a car, this is only 20 minutes away.

Our relaxing farmhouse is in a quiet calm country location within France’s “golden triangle” in the south west of the country. It has good access to essential facilities, restaurants, fun things to do for all ages, amazing geological rock formations, prehistoric sites, and sporting activities. The beautiful and historic town of Bergerac is only a 15 minute car journey away.

The quaint unspoilt medieval village of Issigeac is just a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk away. Issigeac has good facilities with a bank, post office, mini supermarket, G.P. surgery, pharmacy, boulangeries and some excellent local restaurants. It has a popular Sunday market as well as some good gift shops.

There are numerous pretty towns such as Sarlat, Domme and Rocamadour as well as several ancient villages within a short car journey away such as Monpazier, which is said to be “one of Frances loveliest villages”. Many of the towns have bustling markets with fresh local produce, jewellery & gifts. We have several vineyards close by if you feel like wine tasting. There are golf courses, caves including the famous Lascaux cave paintings, scenic rivers for boating and canoe trips. There are lots of chateaux to wander round and take in the history. If you venture further afield, you can reach places such as Bordeaux or the west coast which has Dune du Pyla, the largest dune in Europe.

There is a small tourist office locally in Issigeac with a larger one in Bergerac.

If you are travelling by air, Bergerac airport is a 15 minute drive. There is an excellent TGV to Libourne or a variety of ferries to the northern French coast if you are driving.
