About the property

Villa, 1 Br, 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)additional 2Br 1Bath attached vrbo 353073

Year round special. Pay for 4 nights and get the 5th night free

Newly remodeled 1br/1ba with exotic hardwood floors, porcelain countertops, nickel appliances and hot tub overlooking the lake. Great screen porch for afternoon leisure. This villa is attached to VRBO# 353073 giving room for an additional 4 guests.'Rosella' is a cottage built on the shores of the beautiful and private Mountain Island Lake. Much of this lake is parklands, wildlife, sanctuaries and properties restricted from development. This home was built in 1952 and has provided decades of lakefront fun and fishing. Years ago the house was divided into two separate apartments. In 2011 we converted the upstairs into a vacation rental. In March 2013 we completely updated the decor. We provide high speed wireless internet, flat screen TV's, but you can get most of that at a Holiday Inn. The unique experience you get with a stay here is that little step back in time. It starts when you pull in to the skinny gravel drive and end up at a plain but well kept mid-century home. There are paneled walls unit a/c and no dishwasher. No subdivision, no pool, no tennis courts. There are only two neighbors. There is a 2 bedroom unit above that is also available for rent. Unless you plan on renting both units you should be planning a quiet stay. Prior guests that have most enjoyed Rosella spend much of their time on the screened porch overlooking the lake. Rosella was built right on the lake's shoreline. You are so close to the boats going by you can see right inside them. At night when they cruise by you could truly join in their conversation. The place is very popular and in our few short years leasing it we have had hundreds of guests. In that time we have learned that Rosella is not for everyone. We have done our best to accurately describe the "experience". If that slow paced step back in time is not what you are looking for you may not enjoy Rosella, if on the other hand, you would like to relive the way things used to be or experience it for the first time we don't think you will be disappointed. We look forward to your arrival. In 2014, we just purchased a new Harris Floteboat that will be docked at the home and available for rent. Rental fee is $150/day and includes gas and insurance. This rate is approximately 1/2 the going rate in the area. Boat rental is scheduled separately from the vacation rental. It is strongly advised that you reserve it prior to your arrival.

About Bob Rudolph

We are Bob and Kim and we are lake enthusiast. We own homes on several of the lakes in the area. We presently live on a lake close by and we love this place so much we spend many weekends here.

Bob Rudolph purchased this villa in 1990

Why Bob Rudolph chose Charlotte

Rosella provides a fairly unique experience for it's guests. Located in the city of Charlotte

there is not another lake front rental that is closer to downtown (typically 15 minutes)

The fact that there is another unit attached is a different twist and we are strict in our vetting of potential guests because of it.The result is that we have never had a compliant

about the behavior of an adjoining guest. In fact we have had guests that have met and

planed their next stay to coincide with their new found friends.

Many of our guests come to experience the National White water Center. If you come, we strongly suggest you visit there. It's a man made river rapids that you can kayak

or do a guided raft run. This is the only man made Olympic qualifying rapids in the country. There is vertical rock climbing, zip linning and a lot more outdoor adventures.

If you don't feel quite that adventurous there is a riverside restaurant where you can get a great meal and a glass of wine that you can sip while you watch crazy

people careen down a wall of water and rocks. There are also summer concerts and island sunset parties. It costs just $5 to park and nothing to visit the center.

You can drive from Rosella, park your car, and walk to the rivers edge in less than 10 minutes.

What makes this villa unique

Rosella truly sits on historic ground. The old Rozzelle plantation house was just 200 feet away, later named Laura's Rozzelle House. The old home was used as a pre-civil war ferry docking point and a boarding house and then restaurant until the 1980s. The property this house sits on has been used for rest and hospitality for about 170 years and if open your self to the experience you can feel it. Try not to think of Rosella as a commodity, leave your preconceptions of what it should be behind and open yourself to

feel the foot prints left by literally thousands of travelers that preceded you. If you can

do that we think you too will understand why we think Rosella is so special.

Bob's place was amazing for a clean, quiet getaway but also with the luxury of being close to downtown Charlotte! Amazing location. Gorgeous lake. Bob was very informative and had all questions answered quickly. I would highly recommend staying here!

LOVED!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed for an extended amount of time at this location. Beautiful view to wake up to every morning. Bob is great at keeping communication with you before and during your stay. We also had the chance to use the boat. VERY pet friendly which is huge for us since our dogs are our babies! Overall fantastic and would absolutely consider staying again!

Great little property and conveniently located

  • 4 of 5

You would never guess this little place was right off the main interstate. For how close it is there is surprisingly little to no road noise. We had the downstairs unit and it was great for what we needed. The deck/dock was great to just sit and watch the water with an awesome sunrise. There was plenty of room to let the dogs run a little and the inside of the house was nicely renovated.

There are some bugs (roaches), but some are to be expected with a house in the woods on the water. Just happens, but know that they are there so you shouldn't be surprised to see a couple. Had a cool little lizard living in the window frame that handled the outdoor bugs, at least I like to think he was helping. That is probably the only non-positive part of this stay, yet not really a big deal at all.

Fees were a little heavy, $100 cleaning fee on a little property like this on top of $150/nt is a bit steep. Would take 10 minutes to sweep and mop the entire unit. Not a fan of that, think that is something you should include in rental cost like a hotel does.

Overall, it was a great stay. Nice location close to downtown and many restaurants around the area. The whitewater center is just down the road and just a blast to spend a day at. I would come back in the future.

Owner's Response: Confusion. We did not charge and do not charge a cleaning fee, ever. We have the place professionally cleaned and pay for it ourselves. We feel that one of the selling points of our place is that we do short term rentals and don't pile on the fees. If we ever did charge a cleaning I agree $100 would be way out of line. Please check your invoice. Im scratching my head here. You may see a bug here and there, it has happened. You are right, an older house by lake next to woods makes it very hard to never see a bug but we do try to keep it to a minimum. Normally people will see a dead bug. I spray the permitter regularly and a bug will die as soon as it gets in to the house.

We had a lovely time. The view was wonderful.

  • 5 of 5

Only good things to say! The owner was understanding of the early arrival. We saw many tourist attractions nearby and still had quiet serenity of the water. Will go back again.

A milliion miles away.....

  • 4 of 5

Staying here makes you feel like you're a million miles away but, in reality, you're right down the road from anything you may need. The view is outstanding, the accommodations warm and comfortable.

Communication with the owner was very prompt.

We will absolutely stay here again!

This location is very convenient to downtown, National Whitewater Center, Paramount Carowinds and the Charlotte Motor Speedway. All are within 15 min. A unique feature to this property is that we have a boat rental company that provides your choice of either a pontoon boat or ski boat right from the dock in front of the house. Prices range from $35-$50 per day. Please inquire for additional details.

Please note We are struggling to continue to offer

the boats. We have had guests that over estimated

their nautical expertise and have had numerous accidents and mechanical break downs due to inexperience. We will have to have a large deposit

to secure a boat and please be honest about your

experience level. I am more than glad to take you

out and show you the ropes. Boats will be available

as it is mechanically possible.
