Transfers and car hire: The nearest airport is Dalaman, approximately 1hr 30 minutes from Kalkan. The journey is a beautiful, scenic drive through the mountains and along the coast. We can assist with the organisation of transfers in private, air-conditioned vehicles to and from the airport. Car hire is not essential but we can also arrange this for you at competitive rates.
Local attractions: Kalkan old town and harbour are a 15 to 20 minute walk from the villa. There are plenty of taxis available for the journey back. The larger town of Kas is a stunning 30 min drive away. Visit Saklikent Gorge (30 mins) and walk through part of the 900 foot deep ravine, finishing with local trout served in cushion lined tree houses built over the river. The Lycian cities and UNESCO world heritage sites of Xanthos and Letoon are also within easy reach. Take a boat trip to the sunken city of Kekova or a visit the Greek Island of Meis, only a 15 minute journey by boat from Kas.
Supermarkets: There is an excellent range of good-value supermarkets in Kalkan, only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the villa, as well as a fantastic selection of grocers and butchers. The Thursday market has a superb range of fruit and vegetables and is only a 5 minute walk from the villa. There is also a small supermarket and grocers approximately 3 minutes walk from Villa Mimoza.
We live in West Sussex, England and bought our villa after spending a wonderful holiday in Kalkan in July 2009. We were so impressed that we returned in October and ended up buying Villa Mimoza! We continue to visit on a regular basis as we love Kalkan but also to make sure that the villa is maintained to the highest standard.
Katherine Renton-Rose purchased this villa in 2010
Kalkan and its surrounding area is a wonderful holiday destination, with so much to offer - superb restaurants, shops and bars, stunning unspoilt beaches, beautiful ancient historical sites, a range of water sports, wonderful climate, friendly locals and excellent service. We chose Villa Mimoza because it is located far enough away from the main town to provide us the peace and tranquility we want from a villa holiday but near enough so that we can leave the car behind when going out in the evening.
Our aim is to make Villa Mimoza a special holiday home equipped and furnished to the highest standard. Personal service is important to us and we are always on hand to answer any queries before and during your holiday to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We are delighted that so many of our guests keep returning. We employ an excellent management service who are on-site to help if any problems or queries arise.
Just returned from a fantastic holiday in Kalkan. Villa Mimoza is a real home from home. Spotlessly clean, comfortable, excellently equipped and well managed. The best Mediterranean villa we have stayed in. Right from the start, Katherine was extremely helpful with answering questions and organising transfers and car hire, which helped enormously. We have children aged 10 and 12 - they loved Kalkan as there is so much to do ( beach clubs, boat rides, watersports, shopping, day trips). We will definitely be recommending Villa Mimoza to others and would love to return again! Thank you for a great holiday.
I can only re-itereate other reviewers comments. This is a lovely villa , very stylish decor. Good privacy from nearby properties . Welcome shady covered area. Too far to walk into town , but easy to phone for a taxi pickup (£3). Do visit Kas (more cosmopolitan than Kalkan). Katherine is a wonderful owner , so helpful and full of advice.
highly recommend Villa Mimosa, very well looked after.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the villa, the property is very well maintained throughout. The rooms are huge with comfortable beds. The master bedroom on suite shower is very powerful and with plenty of hot water in all bathrooms.
The pool area is great and catches the sun all day long. Make sure you top up your sun cream!
We mainly enjoyed our evenings at the villa and made use of the outdoor bbq and alfresco dining.
The walk into town is 15minutes downhill, lots of restaurants to choose from, loads of little boutiques which you can find some lovely leather goods.
If your not up for walking back after a night out, there are plenty of taxis so you will not have to walk up, we never managed the walk back!
Katherine Has been very attentive from the moment we booked the villa, she also organised our airport transfers and always so quick to answer any questions you have.
We are thinking of returning and would love to stay at Villa Mimosa again.
Villa Mimosa was a lovely place from which to explore Kalkan and the surrounding attractions. The villa and pool are extremely well maintained by friendly staff, spotlessly clean, well equipped and any little difficulties which might arise are answered immediately by the English speaking maintenance man. Katherine, the owner, who is based in England, very kindly arranged our transfers to and from Dalaman airport to the villa as well as our hire car which was delivered and collected from the villa. A very helpful 'holiday hints' folder is provided in the villa - we tried all the restaurant recommendations! Kalkan is very pretty at night with all the lights from the rooftop restaurants and the whole town is a foodie heaven! The quality of the meals is superb. Do try the newly opened Samphire as one of the best examples. (Find it on Trip Advisor).
There are other villas around Villa Mimosa but the landscaping and layout of the plots ensure that you don't feel overlooked. The little road which runs in front of the villa is extremely quiet with virtually no traffic to speak of. (Do buy some cherries from the fruit and veg man who comes round once a week - they're delicious!). The pool is lovely and clean; it's deep with no shallow end so is perfect for swimmers or children with water wings or in inflatables. The nearest bakery and supermarket are about 15 minutes walk downhill from the villa - we used to buy our daily loaf after dinner to save doing the walk in the morning. It's about a 25-30 minute walk down to the beach and marina area from the villa which we were happy doing but in the height of summer it might be a good idea to catch one of the many taxis back up the hill. (Do leave your heels at home for a holiday to Kalkan as you'll feel much more confident on the cobbled and/ or uneven streets of the old town in flatties!)
One of our best day trips out was when we drove an hour down the coast, past Kas, to a little village where we rented a boat/captain for our family of four and and were taken out to the sunken ruins of Kekova and moored in a tiny, sandy bay to swim in the crystal clear water - 1 1/2 hours of exclusivity for 150 TL!
We are very happy to recommend a holiday in Kalkan, and Villa Mimosa as a base, for an excellent holiday.
From when I initially contacted the owner, through a brilliant, relaxing stay in a villa that has everything to offer in terms of facilities, space, location, the maintenance/cleaning and even contact afterwards - I was more than satisfied. Quite simply.....if you want a great holiday in a great villa book the Villa Mimoza in Kalkan.......is it just fantastic.
We spent a great time at Villa Mimoza at Kalkan, to us it seems to be a piece of paradise on earth!
We really loved the view and enjoyed bathing in the pool.
The garden is full with wonderful plants and having Al Fresco dining in the pergola is just fantastic!
The villa itself just luxurious and spacious, also very well equipped and totally clean.
The welcome arrangement and the owner`s organization concerning our stay at villa mimoza has been super!
We enjoyed Kalkan with its charming Old Town, we often strolled around in the early morning or in the evening, of course always accompanied by the nice dogs in the streets.
Dinner was great at the Nar Restaurant (our favourite!), we also loved the simple traditional food (Guvec) at Iso`s Kitchen, sitting at Belgins Kitchen was a special and nice experience.
Patara is the most beautiful beach we have ever seen. We went there as often as we could!
Xanthos, Islamlar, Bezirgan, Kaputas Beach: we could visit so many interesting and beautiful places in short distance from the villa!
Our favourite shopping place was the greengrocery with its plenty of fresh and tasty fruits and vegetables! Also the bakery in the small village above the villa, were we could fetch oven warm bread all day long.
The people we met were very friendly.
Many thanks to Katherine for this wonderful stay, we really would love to come back!
The historic port of Kalkan was originally a small fishing village and is now one of the most attractive resorts on Turkey's Turquoise Coast. Untouched by mass tourism, Kalkan appeals to visitors who want more than a beach holiday. The old town has pretty cobbled streets lined with historic Greek and Turkish buildings covered in bougainvillea, leading down to the harbour. It is renowned for its high quality, reasonably priced restaurants, many of which boast roof terraces with views of the harbour and bay. You can also enjoy a cocktail or two in one of the relaxing bars or do a little shopping in the many charming boutiques. Visit Saklikent Gorge and walk through part of the 900 foot deep ravine or sunbathe at the unspoilt Patara beach with its 14km of pure white sand or Kaputas cove, a secluded beach at the foot of a ravine. The Lycian cities and UNESCO world heritage sites of Xanthos and Letoon are also within easy reach.
