West Mountain Ranch is a ultra private get away for those who want to spend time alone in the Mountains, but still be close in to the activities available in the area. Our property sits in the middle of a former 600 acre ranch right against the base of West Mountain.
The house is two stories with 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths with a large loft area. The house is finished with the highest quality materials to provide a level of luxury not common with rental homes in the area.
We built this house with relaxation in mind. Whether you are relaxing in front of a huge fire in either the living room or the master bedroom, sitting out in the hot tub under the stars or relaxing in the hammock, you are assured to lower your blood pressure while you are here.
The house features 4 bedrooms:
1 Master with King Bed and huge fireplace on the first floor
3 Rooms with Queen Beds - One downstairs and two upstairs
1 Bunk Bed in the loft
2 Full Baths
Full Gourmet Kitchen with Sub Zero and Viking Appliances
2 Full Fireplaces
Huge Deck and Outdoor Dining Table
While the property sits alone on 30 acres we are only 5 minutes to the town of Donnelly, 7 minutes to Tamarack Resort and 20 minutes to McCall. The location is spectacular.
If you like to snowmobile, horseback ride, mountain bike, or hike, you can do so without getting back into your car. We sit directly at the base of West Mountain at the intersection of West Mountain Road and No Business Lookout. This is prime location to access west mountain for any number of recreational activities.
In summary - this peaceful property allows you to play as hard as you want or just sit and enjoy the peace of the mountains.
We live in Boise and love to be outside as much as possible. Donnelly is our little slice of heaven.
Pete Gombert purchased this cabin in 1999
We love to be outside and when considering what we wanted in a cabin we knew it was not to just be up in the mountains, but to be alone up in the mountains. We have neighbors in Boise and we wanted peace and quiet when we were away. This property has amazing views and all the quiet you could hope for.
If your looking for a place to get away to spend time with family and friends this is it! We came for a relaxing vacation to enjoy a 50th birthday and truly enjoyed it. We were able to play both card games and board games (provided by the owners) and enjoy everyone's company and not be distracted by TV and internet. Just enjoyed the outdoors and nature. We watched deer eating in the front yard and baby birds hatching in a nest on the front porch. The accommodations very comfortable and a little store close by in case you forgot anything. There are plenty of outdoor activities like whitewater rafting, fishing, etc., nearby. Definitely on our list to stay again if we are ever in the area.
We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful cabin! It was so peaceful and was one of the most relaxing vacations we've ever been on. We loved not being able to see any other homes from the cabin and the dogs loved running all around the yard. The big kitchen was so much fun to cook in and we ate most meals out on the deck, looking for wildlife (we saw one moose!!). It really was an incredible vacation and we all hope to return someday in the future. Thanks for everything Pete!
Our family simply loved our stay at the ranch! It was beautiful, remote, and luxurious. The ranch is situated in such a lovely location, mountainous and yet incredibly close to the reservoir. The owners are doing an incredible job of environmental restoration there - we arrived just in time to witness hundreds of tiny frogs (toads?) having just come out of the stream and moving on to their more permanent homes. We've never seen anything like it. As indicator species, these little ones spoke volumes of the work being done there. The ranch itself was ideal, we got to have a lovely bonfire and roast marshmallows, soak in the luxurious soaking tub, hike through the property, cook some fabulous meals in a top of the line kitchen, and let our kids run free outdoors. We had visiting deer, enjoyed a couple amazing thunderstorms out on the covered deck, and saw millions of stars from the back deck. The area was lovely as well - we got to swim at the lake in McCall, eat a fantastic meal at Cougar Dave's, soak in the Gold Fork Hot Springs, hike through the backcountry, and drive through some beautiful back roads. It was the perfect spot.
If you are looking for a peaceful location this is "the " place to be! My wife and I were very impressed with all amenities,we felt really comfortable in this lovely house .Outstanding kitchen with great Viking appliances. Owner even prepared a bottle of wine for our arrival. The back of the house has a huge deck and Jacuzzi facing the mountain .Our boys played for hours with ping pong table .We felt like at home.
Donnelly was not far from property , Mc Call was a little bit further away. We rented some ATV's and were able to go sightseeing on several trails up in the mountain . Owner took the time to call me and provided me extra information about any other activities around the house. The whole experience was very unique.I just recommended this property to our friends who leaves in Europe .The last comment that I would share is, we have rented so many houses on VRBO the last 10 years and all I am going to say is : Classy house= Classy owners!
If you are looking for a comfortable stay in the mountains and away from anyone, this is the place for you.
Our family rented it for a week in the summer and it exceeded our expectations.
It is a very nice home with all the amenities you will need. I won't relist them here, except to say that the only differences in what was listed compared to what was available was there was more available than expected. For instance, there are plenty of lawn chairs and a huge dining table on the back deck, as just a couple examples. Also, the pantry is well-stocked with staples and plenty of dishes, pans, utensils, glasses, etc.
A couple of notes in case they matter to you: the only bathrooms are on the main floor; the living room and indoor dining are small if you have more than 4 or 5 people that want to gather at once. There is a large family/game room upstairs, though.
You could have a relaxing and fun vacation just staying here, but Lake Cascade is a short drive (10 minutes to public access), there are a couple worthwhile restaurants in Donnelly (10 minutes), golf at Tamarack (10-15 minutes), and McCall offers about all you want and is 25 minutes away.
The owner was exceedingly helpful and kind.
I expect we might return on a regular basis for family vacations, so my only reservation in writing a positive review is it might fill up the calendar or increase the price. Oh well, a risk worth taking.
The West Central Mountains of Idaho are an outdoor playground and the towns of Donnelly and McCall at at it's epicenter. From skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling in the winter to hiking, mountain biking, golfing and watersports in the summer - if you like to be outside you will LOVE this area.
Tamarack ski resort is an unspoiled gem that provides all of the luxuries of a bigger resort for much less cost. The ski resort is uncrowded and has a leg burning 2800 foot vertical drop. Their golf course is rated as a Top 100 you can play, by Golf Digest.
The lakes in the area are world class for water skiing, wake boarding and surfing. Cascade and Payette lakes are among the most scenic high mountain lakes in the world. Think Tahoe without all the crowds.
Great restaurants and shops round out the experience. If you want to play hard during the day and relax under a million stars at night, this is your place.
