We, Larry and Liz Pollock, currently live on Camano Island in WA state. We purchased our dream place on Orcas Island over 25 years ago after falling in love with each other and with the island. Our cabin home was previously part of the Buckhorn Lodge back in the 1930s, and used as a fishing resort destination.
We love Orcas so much, we even got married at the little chapel in Eastsound and had our reception right at the cabin. Lovely!
The 'cabin' as we lovingly refer to it in our family, has been our place to vacation, relax, and rejuvenate with one another. Our kids, Niki and Drew, now adults, have many fond memories building rafts, playing on the beach in front, swimming in the pool, and sharing their special place with friends.
As educators we also had the added bonus to spend most of our summers on Orcas. But, now, as our kids are grown and one of us (Larry) is retired, we have decided to once again share our little piece of heaven with others, which also allows us to travel to other destinations around this amazing planet.
We welcome you to build your own memories at our Orcas cabin home.
Larry and Liz Pollock purchased this house in 1988
The most amazing thing about this property is the easy waterfront access and spectacular views. If you know Orcas Island at all, you come to realize that low-bank waterfront homes are hard to find. Our cabin is waterfront, and has just a few steps down to the beach. There are many things to do on Orcas, but we find just being at the cabin is wonderful. We see otters, seals, porpoises, eagles and waterfowl, and deer, literally every day.
We also have an older pool & spa in our backyard, which is available during the summer and is solar heated. It is so much fun for kids and for adults!
Renters will also have use of our 3 kayaks, 1 canoe, and use of our dinghy if you own a boat.
Just minutes away from Eastsound (the main town on Orcas), it is easy to check out the local stores, grab some good food and buy your own groceries.
This cabin is truly a unique spot. Low bank waterfront, pool in the back, spectacular views, and a charming, cozy knotty pine home. One of a kind experience for all!
Larry & Liz's place was even nicer than advertised. The little touches made it so nice.
I promise you'll find the place delightful ! I just didn't want to leave.
What a great place for our anniversary weekend. Larry was very helpful, welcoming and friendly. The views were phenomenal, hot tub a huge bonus, and close proximity to Eastsound. We'll definitely be back!!
My wife and I stayed at this awesome beach house in September 2015 while visiting Orcas for a wedding. This was our second trip to the island and loved staying at this house. The wood paneling throughout the home was incredible and we loved it. The place was stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals.
Did I mention the view? If not, the photos don't do it justice! I spent plenty of time either on the deck or at the family room game table enjoying my coffee and that view.
My wife and I also had an ongoing ping pong tournament over our weekend stay. If you're not a fanatical ping pong couple or family, the home is stocked with plenty of other board games plus the Wii and even an old-school Nintendo.
There's also an incredible view. I can't remember if I mentioned that but if you go here, make sure you check it out!
As far as the reservations and communicating with Larry, the process was easy and fun. We appreciated the help getting the reservation taken care of and as VRBO owners ourselves, we could see the pride that Larry and Liz take in their wonderful Orcas Island home.
PS - check out the view!
We've had 8-10 trips to Orcas over the last 22 years and have stayed at a few different places. This was the first time at this property since the water-view one we've used for years is no longer a rental, and the first time at a waterfront house, which was very special and has definitely spoiled us. Lots of great things about this place: the location is great, the view from the house and decks are lovely, it was wonderful being able to walk right down to the shore, the kayaks were FANTASTIC and we used them daily for hours. The pool in the back of the house was really nice for the kids and my spouse and I loved sitting in the shade by the pool reading/napping and listening to the humming birds and watching dragonflies. We were a little disappointed in the house at first because it is outdated and the kitchen is in need of updates (which I'm told are coming), but we just ate out more and didn't spend that much time in the house anyway, lots of time on the PERFECTLY DREAMY DECK, so it worked out fine. We are intelligent, well-educated people : ) but found the lengthy instructions for the spa too complicated, so we just skipped it. The bedrooms and bathroom were fine. I'm sure the rec room is a huge plus for larger groups (we had just 2 adults and 2 kids) - you could have a good sized gathering or if you had a large family, could have lots of kids sleep on the mattresses in there! I'd give the house a 3.5 and the property & amenities a 5+, so overall, we had a nice stay and Larry was great to work with - with improvements, we'd definitely consider staying at his waterfront home again in the future.
My family of 4 (includes 7 and 9 year old) LOVED this place. Only regret is having to leave. I'd recommend this (and already have) to any and all of our friends looking to stay in the area. We stayed here for several nights in early August, 2015, and cannot wait to book our next trip for next summer. Amazing views, water, wildlife, peace and quiet, and everything we were looking for in a place and more.
Larry (the owner) was very responsive to any and all questions before, during and after our stay, including helping us locate some missing clothes we left behind and shipping them to us (thank you again Larry).
We've been to Orcas a few times now, but this place wins hands down to any other locations in our opinion. Exactly what we needed for a getaway and relaxation and back to nature trip. Stocked with lots of board games, ping pong games, pool fun, kayaking, otters, seals, deer, the list goes on and on for our great memories made here.
My husband and my 5 YO stayed for a week in late June and it was the most relaxing and beautiful vacation we have been on in quite some time. Waking up every day with the beautiful view, kayaking, hiking, running and having our own private pool were some of the highlights. Larry was an amazing host from booking through the visit; he was extremely attentive and ensured we had everything to make our visit amazing and it was! There is plenty of room for children to play on the deck or the grassy area and the game room was nice for afternoon breaks and cool air. If you are thinking about booking, do it! You will not regret your decision.
The Buckhorn Waterfront Beach Cabin is on beautiful Orcas Island. Orcas is often called the resort island because of the many beach resorts, restaurants, art galleries and charming shops. Recreational options include golf, tennis, a small movie house, live music, restaurants and, in the summer, a seasonal Saturday farmers' market. You can also hike in many places, including Moran State Park, Washington's fourth largest State Park, as well as Turtle Back Mountain. There are also several mountain lakes to explore.
