This property which is affectionately called 'Penny Farthing' has been completely renovated and is as new in all aspects.
Downstairs: There is a sitting room, with wood burner which leads through to a big kitchen/dining room, all being open planned. The kitchen is fully equipped with all items being new, such as electrical appliances, crockery and cutlery.
Upstairs: Two bedrooms both en-suite with bath and shower. Both have double beds but there is a single bed if necessary as well.
Outside: The patio doors lead onto a wooden deck area, looking over the garden and countryside and placed perfectly for taking advantage of the late afternoon sun setting. There is a BBQ for the use of our guests.
We also own a superb property consisting of three lakes and a cabin which is available by arrangement,( at an additional cost of 50Euros for the week) for a different and quiet afternoon and BBQ.
Nick and Polly live in THE COTSWOLDS and have been holidaying in France for the last 35 years. They bought first of all a barn which they converted into a beautiful second home with an exceptional view only 5 kms from Pennyfarthing and thoroughly enjoyed doing the conversion so much so that they sought another property to convert purely to let out to and also bought some lakes close by which are available for fishing etc.
Pauline Handover purchased this cottage in 2006
We fell in love with Pennyfarthing as soon as we saw it. It was made up of several small rooms and was asking for some TLC and modernising so we made it open plan downstairs and put in 2 en suite bathrooms upstairs. It is tucked away in a very pretty hamlet with friendly neighbours some French and some English and it is only 5 minutes from the town of Cussac where there all the amenities one needs. At the same time it is located in the Limousin National Park full of lakes and trees and wonderful views and places of interest to visit.
We loved our stay at penny fathing and would recommend to family and friends. The beds were very comfortable the bed linen was clean, fresh. The kitchen was well equipped. We just couldn't find fault with our stay. People in the hamlet, French and English very friendly.
If we had to say one bad thing about this property is, it wasn't our home!
You won't regret booking this gite.
My wife was taken seriously ill two days before we were due to sail & our trip to France (three weeks) was therefore cancelled.
Winter break in comfortable cottage with roaring woodburner and rural views. Imagine garden and outside perfect for spring and summer. Well maintained and with home comforts .
The quiet village of Negrelat is on the Route of Richard the Lion Heart. There are also at least three lovely Chateaux within approximately 5 to 6 kilometres from the cottage. The best is called Chateaux Montbrun which is about 3 kilometres from Negrelat a superb setting and with a pub/restaurant.
The area has a good selection of restaurants of varying food types and options from basic French to full International cooking of a very high calibre.
The position is ideal for anyone in search of a property to buy in the area or anyone who needs a quiet base from which to work or holiday.
The area is set in a National Park with beautiful forests and lakes -an ideal place for rambling or pony trekking. Some of the lakes provide water sports such as water skiing & sailing and some where you can fish-all you need is a licence from the local tabac.
The river Vienne has several Canoe centres -the nearest is at Aix sur Vienne and also at Bourdeilles and Brantome.
Local markets are everywhere but Piegut and Brantome are Must See places and offer the most variety for tourists as well as locals.
There are other Chateaux within an hour's drive such as Bourdeilles, Puyguilleme, Hauteford and Jumilac.
One of the prettiest villages in France is St. Jean de Cole-this is a MUST SEE-if you time it well there is a flower festival in the first weekend of May and near there are Grottos which are well worth a visit.
If you like towns and cities-Limoges is only one hour away-a beautiful old university town, famous for it's porcelaine and knives-At Aixe sur Vienne there is a large outlet which sells Limoges porcelain. Further afield the towns of Sarlat and Bergerac-both beautiful old towns with cobbled streets and ancient buildings.
If you would like to try some wine tasting-Cognac is not far away and St. Emilion is a 2 hour drive-well worth a visit and not far from the coast if you want to make a full day of it.
