Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Brighton - Brighthelm Cottage

3 bedroom with back and front outdoor space built in 1813

Brighthelm Cottage was originally built in 1813, just before the Brighton Pavilion was redesigned. A private pathway leads to this quaint cottage which has a wealth of original features and character. The front area of the house is private and off the busy streets of the lanes. Low ceilings with wood paneling in the hall and slightly uneven floors give the place total charm. The ground floor has lounge/dining area which leads to a newly fitted light and airy kitchen. French doors lead out to a back courtyard garden. On the first floor There is the bathroom with bath and shower, and first twin bedroom. Up a second flight of stairs you get to the top single bedroom facing the back and double bedroom facing the Brighthelm park. You almost feel you are in the country side with all the greenery and trees around.

Recommended Restaurants: Just walk out of the cottage gates and within moments you are close to the restaurants and bars - all are very good

Recommended bars: There are so many bars and different styles of drinking establishments you will be spoiled for choice. The cottage is so central that all are walking distance. No need for taxi's.

Recommended to do: See the Royal Pavilion - left out of the cottage and down the hill

Have an fish and chips and an ice cream on the beach - Queens road and walk down to the promenade

Shop in the Lanes - left out of the cottage down the hill then to the left is the North Lanes and the right is the Lanes.

Pamper yourself with a treatment at the Treatment Rooms

We came with our three children (the youngest is 4). We all loved this cottage, located in the centre of the town, near the station, not far from the beach, and very close to the North Laines.

We appreciated the kitchen area, the bedrooms and it's true the cottage was clean.

Great location and lovely property.

We were a group of ladies wanting a weekend away of shopping, eating out and relaxing in Brighton. The cottage was perfect for us and right in the centre of everything so we could pop back with our bags and head back out again. Even though check in was not until 3pm we arrived early and everyone was really helpful in getting us sorted so we could make the most of our time away.

Thanks again and we hope to come back soon.

Cosy & Cute Cottage

  • 3 of 5

Brighthelm cottage is a lovely little cottage in the middle of Brighton.

It is true to say its lovely - the bedrooms all looked beautiful and we knew we would sleep well in them! The kitchen area is bright with natural light, and has most equipment you might need. The cottage was clean and tidy when we arrived. It is situated in the centre of town, which is great - everyone can have a drink as no need for any driving!

Things to be aware of, depending on your own circumstances, are mostly to do with the size of the cottage, which is advertised as for 5 people. There is seating for 4 adults - both in sofas and in that there are 4 dining room chairs. The single room has a small single bed with an uncomfortable matress, and has no storage. I ended up moving to share the twin room after an initial sleepless night in the single room.

The cottage is 3 storey, which was no problem to us, but meant the downstairs living area is smaller than you might imagine for a 3 bedroom house, especially if you have children. The stairs were a little windy - again, no problem for us, and quite characterful too, but might be tricky for the young or elderly.

Lastly, if you are bringing young children, be aware that the lovely old wooden floor downstairs does have a number of nails sticking out.

Being centrally placed also has drawbacks - you can hear noise from the town at night. To be fair, we were there on a weekend of demonstrations, so noise levels were probably higher than the norm. And it would depend on how sensitive you are to noise too - some of our group were more aware of it, whilst another sleeps through anything! Also, the cottage is set back a way from the pavement, which will have reduced noise a lot, and made you feel nice and safe.

All in all, we agreed we would go back to Brighthelm cottage, as it suited our needs. But I'm not sure it is as well suited for the very young or old.

Brightlem cottage

Cottage was in a good position, close to shops, restaurants, beach front and station. Living room furnishings are not as pictured on website but was comfortable.

The only thing we found a bit hard about hte cottage, was the living area, as with five adults staying we found the area a little small, but we managed :)

The towels are a bit old and could probably do with replacing. Many of the items in the kitchen were not clean (cooking utensils, coffee mugs, plates etc).

We arrived late and the neighbour met us to let us in and give information regarding the cottage. He was very helpful and advised if there were any problems we could see him.

We were informed upon our arrival that the upstairs balcony could not be used due ot maintenance required to bring it up to standard. The lower courtyard area was a nice place to sit on a warm evening but a little untidy.

The pictures show a park in front which you would think was nice, but unfortunately this park seems to attract vagrants and the like, was also not very well kept. Of the five nights we were there, fights and arguments occured in the park on three occassions. This is obviously nothing to do with the actual cottage but an observation of the area.

I also had to follow up on the secuirty deposit as 2 days after our departure I had not heard anything from the owner. The security deposit was refunded in full.
