As a native North Carolinian, it has always been a dream of mine to own a home in the High Country of NC. While attending college at East Carolina University I was on the tennis team and in the outdoor club. I often found myself backpacking, climbing and exploring in and exploring around the Linville area. When I discovered the Birch Lane Chalet (BLC) and Land Harbor, I knew I had found the perfect moutain getaway. Paddling, swimming, golf, cycling, climbing, hiking are all available within minutes of the BLC. There is something for everyone no matter your age or interest.
My career has taken me to more metropolitan areas in our state so until I can call the BLC my permanent residence it is my pleasure to share my home away from home with you. I invite you to visit the BLC, play, relax and come back. Your adventure starts at my doorstep. Alison
Chuck Perry purchased this chalet in 2013
Whatever season you choose has its special beauty. Springtime brings its new promise of blossoms and green. Summertime at 4,000 feet elevation gives wonderful mountain breezes and the exquisite profusion of white and pink rhododendron. Autumn brings the explosion of fall colors to Avery County mountains and winter brings the pristine quiet snow and skiing/snowboarding at Sugar or Beech Mountain close by.
-all the modern conveniences of home
-close to restaurants, shops and outdoor activities
-hiking on site, swimming pool, fishing and golf
-2 miles from YMCA with all indoor amenities
Great location comply beds and just what we were looking for! Thank you for having us.
We had a marvelous stay! The house was nicely furnished and very clean. The owner was very responsive and great to work with. You can't go wrong with this rental!
We had a wonderful long weekend at the BLC. The cabin was exactly as pictured. There was plenty of room for our family of 4. It was centrally located to lots of activities/towns and there was lots to do within the resort itself (game room, trails, etc). We had friends staying on Dew Drop Loop and it was a 2 minute easy walk. Fire pits are not at any of the homes/cabins (way too wooded for that) but there were a couple of community fire pits with swings around them and they were fantastic. We got to enjoy campfires, smores, and hotdogs on the open fire :) I would definitely recommend this resort as well as this cabin. We were only there for 3 nights and only had one roll of t.p per bathroom and one roll of paper towels in the kitchen so if your family requires more than that make sure to bring your own. Dollar General is practically across the street from the resort so an easy trip for anything that you may need or forget at home. Also, worth mentioning is that our deposit was refunded the day we checked out. I have been places in the past that we waited weeks for the refund to be sent back, so thank you Chuck! We had a wonderful trip and can't wait to visit again!!
Things that we did while in the area outside of the resort: 1. Grandfather Mtn-it was gorgeous! 2. Howard's point-the kids loved climbing on the rocks. It was too cloudy the day we were there but still beautiful! 3. Linville Caverns 4. Linville Falls-absolutely amazing! 5. Hawksnest Ziplining-my boys 10, &13, & I absolutely loved this!! It was our first time zip lining, so scary at first but then it was a piece of cake and amazing! We didn't have time for the Wooly Worm festival so maybe next year :)
We had a lovely stay at BLC and would gladly stay again.
Chuck helped us out with a same day reservation so my wife and I could sneak out of town for a few days. The chalet was clean, comfortable, and generally well-stocked. There was plenty of cookware, dishes, and utensils in the kitchen. There were plenty of towels but lacking a few other toiletries (TP, soap. Though we never told Chuck as we were prepared.) The queen bed upstairs was comfortable and the other furniture was as well. It's a nice place.
If anyone has mobility troubles, note that the steps to the deck entrance (keypad location) are quite steep, but the back is only a few normally-sloped stairs. If it has been wet (as it was during our visit), the decking can get slick, which is normal. Just FYI.
The location is in a nice planned community with a stocked lake, swimming pool, paddle boats (included!), among other clubhouse activities. I highly recommend Habaneros nearby for inventive tacos and sliders. It is an unassuming food truck alongside a gas station. Delicious. Valle de Bravo in Linville, however, is an insult to Mexican cooking. Next time we'll arrive earlier so we can have a better first meal.
It was quite warm and humid during our stay. The BLC does not have air conditioning, which made it a little sticky at times. But with plenty of fans and open, screened windows it was still quite pleasant.
The cabin is great and in a great location for availing the activities at the recreation center. All the porches were great Everything we needed was supplied. The only slight issue is that the single beds upstairs are not real comfortable but overall would highly recommend this chalet. Linville Land Harbor is lovely and the whole surrounding area is breathtaking. Pat and Jim Johnson
Enjoy the local attractions such as Grandfather mountain, Linville Falls and Caverns all within a close distance to the Chalet.
Or enjoy the on site gorgeous mountain Golf Course on site has 18 holes and over 5,153 yards with a par of 69. Enjoy our swimming pool during the warm summer months. Please inquire about the tennis facilities.
You can go fishing in our 48 acre trout-stocked lake or fly fish in the pristine river.
Multiple hiking trails within walking distance from the chalet around the lake or along the river with its tiny waterfalls or go hiking around Grandfather mountain and Linville Gorge, visiting Linville Falls and Caverns and driving along the spectacular Blue Ridge Parkway will all add to your very memorable experience.
Being close to Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk gives many choices of shopping & restaurants. Blowing rock has a charming downstairs with Tangier Factory outlets.
The opportunities for hikers of all levels are too numerous to mention. With the Blue Ridge parkway and the Appalachian trail nearby you will have many choices.
There are also wonderful on site fishing spots and mountain bike trails just around the corner.
Be sure to bring a daypack, your binoculars, and camera, and get ready for a wonderful getaway at The Birch Lane Chalet.
