About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Our cabin is located 17 miles from Crescent City off of Highway 199 in a quiet secluded country setting. You can either walk or drive in to the property.

We are surrounded by the Smith River National Recreation Area. Our cabin overlooks the river, an organic garden, and large lawns. The Smith River is one of the largest undamed wild and scenic watersheds in the United States. Unparalleled in beauty and tranquility. Solitude and pristine, natural settings can be found throughout the area. Over 65 miles of trails give access to the botanical areas, forested ridges, craggy peaks, grassy meadows, scenic rivers, and mountain lakes.

The spectacular Northern California coastline is only 20 minutes away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To Future Guest looking at this book- now don't you feel smug for having discovered what has to be the nearest place this side of perfect... certainly in southern Oregon/northern California. I live in Brookings (on the coast) and while we enjoy the ocean, there is nothing on this earth more relaxing and restorative than a pristine river in the wilderness. And such luxurious "digs"... Hard to call this a cabin.

A big round of applause to Kris & Mike for getting everything absolutely perfect. An even bigger vote of gratitude for their willingness to share this magical place with we lucky few people. Within the first hour here, I told Kris we were never leaving... not very original but certainly heartfelt.

We too, loved Mattie's gentle presence, and how about that "pocket rocket" Nellie.

To think that we can come again makes our hearts sing.

Sweet Secluded Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My Family was looking for a place to explore off of the beaten path, and we found it! This place could not have been more perfect. The property has so many extras; a hot tub, swing, net with volleyball and bad mitton ( also loads of other game equipment), BBQ, it is a minutes walk to fish and play in the Great Smith River (complete with lounge chairs and a campfire pit!), and more. Kris and Mike were very friendly and helpful. The house is cute, clean, and cozy. We really appreciated that the owners provided responsible options for our refuse, including a compost area, regular trash bins, and recycling. Although, the property is secluded it is very easy to access by footbridge. For those who prefer, visitors can also drive the historic toll road. This rental is perfect for a quite romantic get away, or vacation with the kids. I enthusiastically recommend any of Mike and Kris's charming properties!

A magical, lovingly maintained redwood forest and river refuge.

  • 5 of 5

The Ravens Nest cabin was perfect for our family of 6. Quaint, clean, well cared for, and spacious, we felt at home right away. We especially loved the large kitchen which was well stocked with everything a cook needs, including a waffle maker. Eileen the groundskeeper was friendly and responsive to our every need. We enjoyed walking around the grounds which are filled with beautifully maintained enchanting gardens, and loved visiting the geese by the pond, Phoebe the dog, the chickens, and the two adorable pigs. There are several lovely paths that lead to the pristine river which we swam and played in daily. We also enjoyed using the well maintained spa every night while gazing at the starry sky and listening to the sounds of the birds and river. We couldn't have asked for a more peaceful and restorative vacation spot. Thank you Kris, and Mike for your hospitality and for sharing your lovely ranch with us.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to relax for the last few days of our 3 week vacation! Having to utilize a bridge to access the house made it feel so private, the accommodations were wonderful, and the owners reliable.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Middle Fork Ranch was amazing. I cannot find anything negative to say about our stay. The owners and care taker have done an awesome job in taking care of the property. I would recommend this place to family and friends with out a doubt. The river is about 100 yards of the back deck and is one of the most magical rivers in the West. My wife and I will definitely be back to the Middle Fork Ranch. Maybe in the winter to try for the illusive Steelhead. Thanks for the wonderful experience.

Charming, relaxing and quaint.

  • 5 of 5

After the exciting drive in, we found a very peaceful cabin on a large area along the river. The property was amazing. So many different cute sites to see. We enjoyed our walks around the property and stop by the ponds to watch the geese. The cabin had everything you need to relax in the quiet area off the Smith River. It was relaxing to wake up to the sound of the river rushing or the rain on the metal food. We loved how it had different activities to do area the cabin as well. Thank you for your hospitality Kris and Mike! We plan to be back again!
