The Glacier Chalet looks like something out of a charming storybook. (For larger groups, also check our other units located on the same property—Alpine House: Listing 134160, and Alpine Cottage: Listing 451633). The 1000 square foot, wood sided, red roofed, two story chalet with white painted balconies is a dream come true. Located at the edge of the woods, the quiet here is soothing and tranquil. Two cozy upstairs bedrooms, one with two twin beds, and the other with one queen bed, have down comforters. Each room is in European cottage decor and has its own private balcony with views of the mountains and woods and a place to sit and relax. A full bathroom is shared between the two bedrooms.
The downstairs has a full kitchen, dining room, living room with full sofa bed couch, reading chairs and a gas fireplace, a bathroom, entry room, and front porch. The living room opens out onto a large balcony deck with deck chairs and barbecue grill. The deck overlooks the meadow below and the mountains above.
Melissa and I (Clyde) take pleasure in providing a wilderness retreat where people can unwind, enjoy nature, and come closer together. The Alpine Cottage is a quality place where this can happen.
Melissa lived in this area for about 20 years and loves the mountain wilderness. Her favorite spot is Lake McDonald, by Apgar Village, a short drive from the retreat.
When you stay in the Glacier Chalet you are nestled in the woods where birds sing. Yet, you have the comforts and conveniences of home. Each bedroom has a walkout balcony from which you can view the surrounding natural beauty. If you're looking for romantic setting, the queen bedroom with its balcony view of the mountain meadow is very enchanting.
We stayed at the Glacier Chalet in August 2016. Directions to find it were spot on which is important in that part of Montana! Everything was clean and ready for our arrival. Internet worked well enough for email and travel planning. The kitchen is well equipped and decor is charming cottage with comfortable furniture. Two dormer style bedrooms upstairs with their own balconies and two full baths make this a good spot for a family of 4-5 or two couples. I cannot say enough about the location. So close to West Glacier and all the park has to offer but completely isolated in the woods with only one other house in view. We did not see major wildlife but really enjoyed the quiet and woods. Columbia Falls is only a 15 min drive as well for larger grocery shopping needs. We would definitely book this again or the nearby Alpine House for a larger group. Note: there is no A/C but the shade, fans and good airflow made this a non-issue even with days in the 80s.
We were there for 5 days and each person was given 1 towel and 1 washcloth for their use. Had I know I would have brought some of my own. The pots with which to cook had no lids and there was not a pot big enough to fix soup in. The kitchen rug was dirty and the couch had food on the arm rests. There was a note in the upstairs bathroom which stated they were sorry but the hot and cold water was mixed up. This place could use a thorough cleaning. In addition the internet and TV took forever to get working.
My brother and I wanted to take my Mom on a trip to Glacier Ntl Park for her birthday. We found this place online and it lived up to our expectations. The property was secluded and quiet, but close enough to the park that the drive was only maybe 15min. We saw Deer right in our backyard, and a Mama bear and her cubs down the street! The beds were comfortable and the cottage was equipped with everything we needed The hot water was plentiful and the gas stove was a treat (though I enjoy a wood fire more, which is why the outdoor fire pit was my personal favorite). We were right next door to the other rental properties, but we never really saw them. Everything was clean and the linens were fresh. It was also nice having a washer/dryer in the house in case we needed to do some laundry.
Thanks for letting us create some memories there!
P.S. We left a jigsaw puzzle there for the next people. It's a tough one...
Four of us stayed for 3 nights during our visit to Glacier National Park. The Chalet is approx. 15 min drive to the West Glacier entrance. The property was well equipped and clean. We did have a problem on arrival which was quickly rectified by a phone call to the owner who arranged for his Housekeeper to call round and sort things out for us. Following this shaky start the rest of the stay was perfect. The Chalet is very charming and peaceful. It was lovely to be visited by a deer and her fawn each morning. Despite the rural setting we did manage to get good wifi connection. Great accommodation for our first - and hopefully not last - visit to Glacier National Park.
This is a lovely cottage, fully equipped for a family vacation. It is about 20 minutes from the west entrance to Glacier Nat. Park. It is not air conditioned, but the downstairs was cool on the hottest day. The bedrooms did cool off by bedtime by using the fans. We would stay there again.
We recently stayed at the Glacier Chalet at Mountain Cleft Retreat with longtime friends from Germany. We were looking for an accommodation that was close to West Glacier NP (15 minute drive), had 2 BDR and 2 BR, full kitchen and felt like a respite after long days of driving or hiking. The Glacier Chalet more than fulfilled our needs and expectations. The chalet was well appointed, delightfully decorated, peaceful and quiet. We prepared daily breakfasts and packed lunches prior to our park adventures and looked forward to coming "home" in the evening to relax and prepare dinner together. Based on comments from previous guests, we did bring our own cooking spices. Any needs regarding the facilities were quickly managed with a phone call. We highly recommend this property for those seeking a comfortable home away from home, close Glacier NP

Mountain Cleft Retreat is surrounded by national forest. Wildlife is abundant, especially in the Spring. Two forks of the Flathead River merge nearby where you can find a locally favorite fishing spot. Glacier National Park property is about 3/4 of a mile away as the crow flies. The West Entrance to the park is just 8 miles by road.
