Overview

About the property

3 bedroom, 2 bathrooms, with a balcony and fully equipped kitchen

Your dream Dalmatian experience starts here. Classic Split show you the real Split, in an antique, luxurious apartment.

The apartment:

This elegant apartment occupies the whole floor of a 19th century townhouse. Unusually for central Split, every room has a window, which makes the rooms light and airy. The south façade, which has a balcony, looks out on the UNESCO heritage area, which includes the corner tower of Diocletian’s Palace and the Venetian city wall that protected Split for so many centuries. The south façade looks out on the terracotta rooftops of central Split, and the Dinaric Alps beyond. The Palace and city wall can also be seen from this side.

NEWS! In response to concerns about noise, the apartment has been fitted with double-glazed windows in April 2018.

All rooms have 3-meter ceilings, and the original ceramic tiles, oak parquetry, and timber windows and shutters have been retained through the whole apartment. The bedrooms have hand-woven pure wool carpets from Afghanistan and vintage light fittings. A large hall separates the two sleeping areas so the apartment is ideal for groups or families who want some private space. There are two new bathrooms, one with a bath/shower, and the other with a large shower. A divan in the lounge room converts to a double bed, while a single sofa in the master bedroom converts into a single bed, ideal for a young child wanting to be near to their parents. There are two televisions with satellite TV, a Pioneer stereo system with Bluetooth, CD/DVD, USB or aux connections. The USB can be used for charging mobile phones.

A 7 kg washer and 7 kg dryer are provided for guests’ clothes. The fully-equipped kitchen contains a refrigerator, microwave, stove-top, convection oven, dishwasher, toaster and kettle.

All equipment and, furniture (except some vintage furniture) and bedding is new, and no expense has been spared.

Location.

Classic Split is in the heart of old Split, just meters from Diocletian’s Palace and next to the city market. Everything is within easy walking distance:

Diocletian’s Palace – 1-minute walk

Fresh produce market – 2-minute walk

Train and bus station and ferry port – 8-minute walk

Bačvice swimming beach – 12-minute walk

Two supermarkets, convenience store, two bakeries, a street kiosk, three caffe bars within 100 meters, and many quality restaurants within a short walk.

This part of central Split has the best parking, with paid street parking as close as 40 meters from the door. Free street parking can be found within 200 meters. Private parking can be arranged, if desired, at no charge - 250 m from the apartment.

About Daniel

We are a family who loves to travel. We have travelled widely in Europe, Asia and the Americas, but we fell in love with Croatia, and with Split in particular. We have renovated the apartment to retain the classic original features, and to be what we want in a holiday apartment.

Daniel purchased this apartment in 2016

Why Daniel chose Split

As an Australian family who travel a lot, we have found it difficult to find accommodation that is large enough for a family or large group, and accommodation that is in a traditional European style. So we thought we would create the perfect apartment for us. It turns out that other people agree, since the feedback that we have received has been very positive.

The location is perfect. All of the key attractions are within a few minutes' walk, but parking is also not difficult and shops and services are within easy reach.

Some people have found the apartment a bit noisy, since it is in the middle of the town and near the market. We have installed new double-glazed windows in April 2018, so this should not be a problem in the future.

What makes this apartment unique

People love the light, space, and relaxed feel of the apartment. All of the artworks are original paintings or etchings etc. The rugs are hand-made traditional wool carpets from Afghanistan.

Excellent location, spacious unit in older building, great value

  • 4 of 5

This apartment is located steps from the palace, which was very convenient. Grocery stores within the immediate neighborhood, bakeries...everything needed is just steps away. The unit has been renovated. Great communication with Daniel (the owner).

The reason I did not give it 5 stars is for two reasons: traffic noises at night, which cannot be changed, and also the unit is a no frills unit. So if you are looking for luxury you will not find it here. This is a simple, functional, spacious, freshly redone unit, and for the price paid, this is an excellent value considering lodging prices in Split. There were 4 of us (2 couples) and we used two out of the three bedrooms. Having two bathrooms was a real plus.

Ante (the host) met us at the apartment at the agreed time (no communication issues as he speaks English), showed us the place, plugged in the internet, turned on the heat...and arranged for a cab transfer on departure day for 5:00 a.m. Overall a very positive experience.

Lovingly restored apartment, in a wonderful location

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks in this lovely apartment in October 2017. The apartment was very comfortable and fully equipped. The owner (Daniel) and his family have furnished the apartment to a high standard and we really enjoyed our stay.

When we were there, there was building work being undertaken in the apartment below, with very loud and disruptive noise. I contacted Daniel via email and he organised via the local hosts, Ivana and Ante, for the building work to commence at 10am, even though the building below does not belong to him. There was another issue with a very loud couple, who were shouting and letting their dogs bark for long periods of time, in the ground floor apartment. I contacted Daniel and he organised for the hosts to speak with them.

Daniel, Ante and Ivana were very kind and responsive and will do everything they can to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

The location is very central to the Diocletian's Palace, the Port and beaches and we enjoyed trips to Trogir, Brac and Stobrec. We loved walking up the Marjan Steps most mornings to sit at the cafe and to look out at the spectacular views, whilst having our morning coffee.

There are some lovely walks through the Marjan Park, and the views over the coast line are truly breathtaking. As it was October, it was very quiet and there are many little coves, beach areas, which you could more or less have to your-self. The sea is crystal clear as most beaches are made of small pebbles.

We bought tickets to watch Hayduk Split play Dinamo Zagreb and it was quite an experience. Everyone we met in Split was friendly and helpful and we had a wonderful holiday, and were blessed with sunny days and blue skies for 12 out of 14 days.

We would recommend this lovely apartment and hope if you book it, you enjoy your holiday as much as we did. Thank you Daniel, Ivana and Ante.

Owner's Response: Dear Linda, Thanks for your wonderful review. I am so glad you enjoyed Split. It is a very interesting place, with lots of options for activities. I have also been to a couple of Hajduk matches and can really recommend them as a unique, if somewhat bewildering, experience. Thank-you also for your understanding about the noise from the building work downstairs, and the people on the ground floor. We are installing double-glazed windows over the winter, so next year any noise should no longer be an issue. I hope to have you back one day. Daniel

A central, stylish, and comfortable stay in the centre of Split!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this apartment! It is beautifully styled and on the doorstep of Split's old town. It's a one minute walk away all the essentials: supermarket, bakery, and the market. The apartment feels luxurious and has been renovated with care. All the fittings and facilities are new and in perfect condition. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone planning a stay in Split!

Very nice appartment

  • 5 of 5

A very nice and clean newly renovated appartment, located near the centre of the old town.

Good sleeping arrangements for 9 persons. Kitchen with 6 chairs.

Only thing that could be negative is that one of the bathrooms has it's entrance from a bedroom but no door into it, only curtains and that the windows aren't soundproof (traffic from outside is heard).

Anyhow, it did fit us and we do recommend this place!
