Bob Barclay purchased this townhome in 2000
The house is centrally located in Georgetown with off-street parking and walking distance to shopping, coffee shops, restaurants, entertainment, Universities, Hospitals, and Embassies.
This is a traditional historic carriage house converted to a 1 br home in the 1950's, and updated in 2011. It has a rustic feel with exposed rafters, red tile floor, red brick fireplace, and french doors opening to a private patio for dinner or sipping your favorite beverage when DC weather allows.
My husband and I spent a splendid October with our Cairn Terrier in this charming little townhouse. While it is small, the owners have seen to it that you have all you require for a nice stay. They were very pleasant and easy to reach. The photos are accurate, and the place was clean and well organized. The washer and dryer were a plus, linen was plentiful and the shower was outstanding. This is actually a historic building that was once the carriage house for a larger neighboring building. There is a lot of light, and the home has an efficient heating and cooling system. The wifi worked well (my husband finished editing his novel here!). The location is excellent - surrounded by other delightful historic houses in a unique neighborhood, but just a couple of blocks from a large market, and the shops and restaurants of Wisconsin Avenue. We went without a car for the whole month (although there is a parking space available), as we were able to walk to buy groceries and visit most of Georgetown. Also within walking distance are Georgetown University, the beautiful gardens of Dumbarton Oaks, and the restored library. Just walking the brick sidewalks past the nicely kept townhouses and seeing the leaves turn was an everyday treat. Bus lines are nearby to take you over to the center of town or down to the National Mall, though Uber and taxis are easy to get and will save you time. Don't miss Bonaparte - a small French crepe restaurant on Wisconsin, or Clyde's for classic American on M Street. Ri Ra on M Street is Irish - a great spot for a cheeseburger or shepherd's pie with a Guinness. There is so much to see and do in Washington, and this was a wonderful place to come home to each day. We hope to return in the future!
Another great experience in this Georgetown carriage House. I spent a month (September) and things could not have been any better. This place has everything needed for a great time, it is truly a home away from home. This was my third year to stay here and am looking forward to next year. Would recommend this place to anyone.
I spent 9 months in this lovely Carriage House in Georgetown. It was perfect for me an my dogs. It was cozy in the winter time and I loved using the fireplace on the cold snowy nights. Although the house would have been warm from the heating, the fireplace was a major plus for me to stay in this home. As the Spring and Summer rolled around, I used the deck outside. It was a great place to have coffee in the morning or i often grilled on a BBQ in the summer evenings. The house has everything you will need. It stay cool in the summer with the air-conditioning. The owner, Bob, is very helpful and will assist you with any questions or needs you might have during your stay. The parking spot is rare in Georgetown and really makes living there much easier. The house is very close to Georgetown University and to multiple large parks. I was able to get my dogs out on some beautiful walks, where they could most walk off leash. There are plenty of stores, restaurants, coffee shops and clothing stores nearby. I thought it was an idea location. I would gladly return during my next stay in the Washington, DC area!!
In DC for sons Suzuki Institute and found the carriage house perfection. Two blocks away from the bus stop, we did not need our car the entire week. Easy to get from bus to Metro and then everywhere you want to go in Washington. A parking spot in this area of Georgetown is a definite plus! Small kitchen, but has everything you need to make a meal, with nice, clean appliances. Safeway as well as Whole Foods is close for groceries. Or just walk out your door to a number of wonderful restaurants. We enjoyed the lovely, petite courtyard for breakfast, and it gives the house more light and a charming feel to the interior.
Bob, the owner, was also quick to answer questions and give very helpful advice! We hope to return again next June. Highly recommend a stay at the carriage house.
My husband, 7 year old daughter and I returned from an overseas posting to stay in the carriage house for 5 days. It was perfect. The house was small but what one would expect from a carriage house and it fit our needs without fail. We didn't cook at all but many many restaurants within 5-10 minute walk. The patio was lovely for coffee in the morning and dinner at night. My husband and daughter walked to the metro one day to go the national mall and planned on walking to the zoo, but were rained out. A/C was not really needed due to ceiling fans and mild weather, regardless good to know there if required. Thank you, thank you, thank you for allowing pets. Ours stayed in their kennel most of the time and were comfortable but enjoyed sunning on the patio when we were home. The internet worked well, which was a requirement and the beds were comfortable. We would stay here again without hesitation!
This was the last stop on our vacation ... covering 5 east coast cities --- and this VRBO was the best!! The Carriage home was perfect for our needs. Location - 20 minutes to White House area, 5 minutes to Georgetown shopping and restaurants, 15 minutes to airport. The House had everything, including full A/C which was great in the 95 degree weather. The pictures as shown are exactly what you get. The owner bent over backwards for us (we locked ourselves out and he brought a 3rd key on Father's day), we could not be happier with this property. A fully stocked kitchen with gas stove works for all meals and a Safeway 5 minutes away. We have travelled extensively and this ranks very high with us. Should we comeback through Washington this is our place to stay!
An urban setting with parks, hiking and biking trails. The Potomac river and historic C&O canal is an 8 block walk. Georgetown & George Washington Universities, many Embassies, and entertainment nearby.
