About the property

Imagine Staying In A Small Cottage, Afloat On a Beautiful River. . .

Poised to delight, Floating Cottage provides a magical space to relax, replenish and explore. Relax on the front porch, enjoy the warm breeze while watching turtles swim to the porch to beg for a treat. Replenish in the peaceful comfort of the fully equipped small home.

The cathedral ceilinged living room is bathed in natural light, has hardwood floors, and embraces the outside. Its French doors expand the living area to include the protected front porch. A full size sofa bed, electric potbelly stove, TV and versatile work/dining table grace the homey Floating Cottage.

No ordinary boat galley, the fully equipped kitchen meets the needs of the casual to the gourmet chef with a five burner gas stove, full size side by side refrigerator with door ice dispenser, dishwasher, granite counter tops and tile back splashes. Microwave, toaster, utensils and dinnerware are included.

Walk up the stairs to the carpeted loft bedroom with queen size bed, walk-in closet and be surprised by the stained glass window. The loft is air-conditioned. Open the shades and screened windows to enjoy the gentle river breeze.

The cleverly outfitted bath has a full size shower, flush comfort toilet and storage space for linens and toiletries and a view-catching window.

The cottage is approached from the dock through the back porch. Notice the gas barbecue for outdoor cooking. The two kayaks affixed to the dock are for the exclusive use of guests of Floating Cottage. Life jackets and paddles are in the utility room of the porch.

The French doors to the front porch open the cottage to a full view of the marina surrounded by local forests. With four comfortable chairs, guests of the cottage may choose to sit for hours simply enjoying the quiet peace of the marina. Watch boaters come and go from trips up the lazy St. Johns River or to Lake Monroe to visit Sanford. Turtles swim to the cottage to greet the guests and to be treated to the dry kibbles of cat food stored in the pantry. Watch the catfish and turtles as they playfully spar for the food. An occasional manatee can be seen from the porch. Herons and egrets are common sights as guests share the lovely outdoors with feathered friends.

Floating Cottage is designed with comfort and efficiency built into the 550 square feet of living space. The movement of the water beneath the hull is barely perceptible while relaxing those who experience a stay in the cottage.

Floating Cottage is berthed in the rural Boat Tree Marina, just north of Lake Monroe on the scenic St. Johns River, a river of abundant wildlife and scenic vistas. The marina offers a casual deli and restaurant, bait shop, laundry and pool. There is a pool-side bar associated with the restaurant. Stroll to the deli for breakfast and lunch served by the friendly staff. Yes, beer is available for thirsty patrons. Guests of Floating Cottage enjoy a 15% discount on boat rentals for half and full days. The friendly staff at the office will assist with boat reservations as well as with local information on fishing.

Don't miss visiting quaint Old-town Sanford, home to cobblestone streets and brick-lined store fronts, restored nineteenth-century Victorian homes, lovely towering oaks draped with Spanish moss, numerous art galleries, unique shops, pubs and great restaurants. Catch the open market with crafts and produce at the square.

Follow Sanford365.com to explore local events and discover what is happening in the Sanford area.

The Riverwalk on Lake Monroe, a bit over a mile long, has shady places aplenty to watch lake activity or beautiful sunsets and sunrises.

Visitors will be greeted by phone, text or in person by the local host, a Sanford native who will answer any questions regarding the environment or the boat. The host and her husband designed and built the cottage.

This magical cottage will delight!

Why Kim Hadden chose Sanford

Floating Cottage is unique, charming, beautifully appointed and sits on one of the most beautiful rivers in the country. The marina where it is permanently berthed is small, quiet and offers full amenities, including pool, laundry and discounted boat rentals to cottage guests. A designated Clean Water Marina, it is surrounded by forests and is shared with abundant wildlife. The cottage offers a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in cozy comfort. Folks who want to hike, to bike, to boat up the river will enjoy returning to the cottage.

What makes this boat unique

The cottage has a unique attraction: when the turtles in the river sense that it is occupied, they swim up to the front porch to greet guests. They are encouraged by the cat kibble (from the pantry) that guests can offer them. This charming cottage has great curb appeal, has 550 square feet of living area, a full gourmet kitchen and lovely furnishings. Outdoor cooking is a breeze with the gas grill on the back porch. Being lulled to sleep by the barely perceptible movement of water beneath guarantees relaxation. Floating Cottage was featured on the HGTV program "Tiny House Hunters". Bathed in light, the cathedral ceilinged cottage feels spacious and comfortable. Two kayaks are available for guest use. Nearby Old Town Sanford offers night life, great restaurants and pubs, art galleries and a glimpse of history with its eighteenth century buildings, cobblestone streets and restored Victorian homes.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our week-end. Kim the owner of the floating cottage was very accommodating for our visit the Sanford area. The floating cottage is an amazing tiny house on water. Very spacious, full size appliances, flush toilet and good size shower. Lovely quite setting, turtles and catfish come to visit for a small treat morning and evenings. Deli just behind the cottage, has a super cheeseburger with delicious fresh sides, coleslaw and potato salad. Marina has boats for rent, nice location on the St. Johns River.

the House was as described. But the power plant did a super loud public broadcast at 10pm both night

The house was as described. But the power plant did super loud public broadcasts at10:00pm both nights. We were very concerned the first time it happened- thinking there was a breach. Apparently it’s just an ugly and loud plant. Too bad the cottage wasn’t in a better location

Just what you need

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the floating cottage was great! The cottage is a quick drive from the Sanford airport and has all the comforts of home without the distraction. There was plenty of extra bedding, towels, toiletries and a well stocked kitchen although we only used the coffee pot during our stay. The cottage stayed cool with the A/C unit even on +90 degree days. My sister-in-law said the pull out couch with memory foam mattress was the best she'd slept on. We enjoyed access to Nextflix and other apps on the smart TV as well as a couple breakfasts at the diner behind the cottage. My absolute favorite part of our stay was the interactive turtles and fish! ❤️ We had a adolescent gator visit who became known as Al E. Gator. Kim is an exceptional host in terms of communication and general regard for your best stay possible. It was the easiest check-in/out process. I hope to visit again in the future and have already recommended to friends and family looking for a little getaway. Thank you, Kim!

Owner's Response: Alitha, I truly appreciate both your stay at the cottage and your warm review of your time afloat. I'm so glad that you enjoyed the antics of our official welcoming party, the turtles and the fish, as they greet you from the water when you are on the front porch. And, too, I'm glad that the tad homely gator who seems to be amused by the turtles and the fish now has a fitting name. Thank you and please do visit again! Kim

Beautiful Cottage

  • 2 of 5

The cottage was beautiful inside and out. Very cozy and well decorated.

I think the location could be better described. It is in a busy marina overlooking a gas refinery. Not exactly in nature.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, as all comments are very helpful! I'm glad that you found the cottage beautiful. I do include photos and a video on the site and always provide additional descriptions and photos to each guest in an effort to provide the environmental context for the cottage, including views of the marina, and river, and the power plant in the distance. I'm sorry you were disappointed. I do appreciate your visit and your perceptions.

GREAT TINY COTTAGE THAT FLOATS

  • 5 of 5

We got used to the compact but well designed floating cottage really quickly. It had all the amenities, full kitchen, air conditioner , all standard utilities and sleeps four comfortably. We also made use of the two kayaks behind the cottage to see the surroundings up close and used the outside propane grill to cook up some steaks. Julian is the handyman and will fix any issues you may have. We got to see the Everglades in a pontoon boat and the abundant wildlife in close proximity to the cottage.

Thanks to Julian, Paul and Kim for making it a nice adventure for our family.

Guests can choose to never leave the marina while kicking-back and enjoying the cottage. The options of cooking in the full kitchen, using the outdoor grill, or simply strolling to Connie's Deli or Otters Restaurant and Bar are immediately available . The marina pool is adjacent to the restaurant and is always available for guests to enjoy.

Additionally, the cottage can provide a comfortable, efficient and cozy home base for relaxation and being on the river, while at the same time being close enough, about an hour away from the metropolitan scene of Orlando, as well as Disney World, and Universal Studios.

For the nature lover, renting a marina boat (15% discount to guests) to tour the St. Johns and Wekiva Rivers is a must. Bird lovers should bring a camera to capture unforgettable, abundant and unique birds. There is also the option to drive to Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, just about an hour away and tour Black Point Drive to enjoy wetland birds and animals. Also in the Refuge, manatees may be seen at Haulover Canal.
