Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Walnut Grove - Long Island River House

Boat in or drive to 3 bedroom, 2 bath located on the Sacramento River

This newly renovated home is located on Long Island just off of Grand Island in the Sacramento River Delta. There are 3 queen bedrooms and 2 baths on two levels overlooking the river. In addition, there is a sleeper sofa for overflow for total sleeping space for 8. For the warm summer, an outdoor shower is privately located just under the main deck. Well behaved family pets are welcome, although the yard is not fenced. TV, satellite and wi-fi are available along with hundreds of VHS tapes and DVDs. The house has private docks both on the river and in back on the slough (or the dredge cut as it's known), so boat in or put the boat in the water at one of several nearby launch ramps. Fish off the docks or relax on the covered deck while watching the local skiers and fishermen work the water out front. Wood fire pit and comfortable outdoor furniture allows our guests to fully enjoy the weather at any time of year. There is an office set up in the lower bedroom, just in case you need to keep in touch while you're away.

About Martha Pearson

We bought this house as a fishing shack and to have a berth for our 32' Erickson sailboat and have remodeled extensively in the years since. In fact, we lived in this house while reworking the house next door --where we live today. We are boaters who enjoy all the Delta has to offer and this house puts you so close to the water, you'll never want to leave. At least that was our story and why we moved from Sacramento. We are also active private pilots and involved in Sacramento real estate.

Martha Pearson purchased this house in 1996

Why Martha Pearson chose Central Valley California

Life is just better on the water --and you can't get any closer than this. The view, the immediate access to the water activities we enjoyed were why we chose this place to call home. If you don't do anything but sit and enjoy the view of the river, you'll be entertained by the water skiers and island is qient and charming with really nice neighbors. This kitchen in this house is a dream and stocked well with good quality appliances, dishes and cookware. If you're looking to cook up a few fancy meals while you're with us and wonder about specific items, just ask and we'll see what we can do to accommodate. We always stock the basics but include coffee, tea, spices, foil and plastic wrap as well. There is usually something edible in the yard --the Delta is known for it's lush abundance, and this property is no exception. We encourage our guests to take advantage of what we grow which will obviously change with the seasons.

What makes this house unique

Being on the water with your own dock means that you can take a quick water ski run, or fish a little then relax a while only to do it again without the hassle of taking the boat in and out of the water. The Delta is beautiful and this location is convenient to the Grand Island Mansion and the Ryde Hotel, both wonderful wedding venues. Isleton is about two miles and Walnut Grove about 10 miles. Delta fishing is awesome and this is great water for skiing -- right out front. From either of the two decks overlooking the water, the line between inside and out is deliberately blurred so you're encouraged to spend the days with the doors wide open to the great Delta weather. For cooler months, there is a cozy gas fireplace and heated floors to make things comfortable.

Great location for exploring the delta. Comfortable & clean house with great views.

House was clean and very well kept. Hot water, large kitchen, and great balconies made the house perfect. We spent most of the day on the boat. It was so nice to be able to pull the boat right up to dock in front of the house. Back dock was ideal for over night. Every night we BBQd on the balcony. House was cool all day. TV room is too small for four people, so not the best for watching a movie late at night. Owners are next door, but we only saw them when we checked in. Glad we picked this house.

Beautiful, Comfortable, Quiet and close to great wake boarding water

  • 5 of 5

This was our first stay at this property it was a pleasure the owner Martha is right next door and ready to help with anything. We were very comfortable and the house has everything you will ever need for a perfect vacation. The kitchen is fully stocked and clean. The beds/linens soft and comfortable. We go to the delta every summer to go wake boarding and waterskiing and have stayed at a couple other houses and this house is close to smooth water that you can ski on forever. We are already planning our stay here next year!!

BEAUTIFUL HOME ON THE RIVER

  • 5 of 5

Perfect family get together spot. Lovely home-lovely setting. Welcoming, without being fussy.

Just bring your boat & clothes & food.Pretty much everything else is provided.

Darling owners live next door to supply you with anything you forgot ,or need. They are not imposing on your time.

This was by far, the best VRBO we have had the pleasure of renting. 👍👍👍👍👍

We will be back this fall.( hubby is in to fishing).

Delta charmer

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed Martha's beautiful house on the delta. The house is nicely decorated, extremely clean, and the beds comfortable. The deck looks down on the Sacramento river making for a relaxing evening, with a large BBQ on the deck ready to serve up treats. The kitchen is large and fully stocked with all kitchen gear you may need. Fast & easy wifi was available.

We brought a boat and two jet skis to explore the nearby Steamboat and Minor's slough, only a short distance away, mostly fast water. Vieira's marina is only a mile away where you can launch your boat, gas up, and park your trailer overnight. Rio Vista is about 15 minutes away with a few restaurants to enjoy. Walnut Grove is a fun town to boat to for lunch and ice cream. The house's dock is nice but be sure to bring bumpers to protect the boat when waves come by.

We fished off their back dock and managed to catch-and-release a couple of fish which was fun (red worms for bait).

Overall, the house exceeded our expectations with Martha's hospitality a treat. We will be returning soon!

Notes:
While the Delta is a relatively quiet and secluded area, this home is located in a neighborhood setting on a private island. There are approximately 30 homes, most of which are vacation homes. We strongly suggest all visitors bring appropriate life jackets and insist children wear them while outdoors. There is water everywhere and an accident due to inattention is a real risk.
