This six bedroom, three bath, three-story chalet is the perfect getaway for both winter and summer. Located in Tahoe City, walking distance to the backside of Alpine Meadows Ski Area, at the Sherwood Lift high speed quad chair, you can walk there and ski home. No crowds, no lift lines, no hassles. You'll have access to a homeowners parking lot that will allow you to park directly across from the ski lift if you choose to drive.

When the snow melts, the surroundings become a playground to hike, bike, and fish. Tennis lovers can enjoy the homeowner tennis and pickleball court, golf lovers can enjoy the multitude of golf courses within a ten mile radius, beaches and picnic areas are within biking distance to the house. There are a ton of hiking trails just out the back door, and a great fishing creek just down the street from the home. The activities in the Tahoe Basin are endless. Located on the West shore of Tahoe City, you are minutes to the Lake and restaurants, and close to Chambers Landing and Meeks Bay with great sandy beaches, BBQ grills, incredible views, and a day full of bliss.

The house is chalet-style and has an open floor plan that can accommodate your family and friends well. The 22 foot cathedral ceilings, and floor to ceiling windows, with expansive wrap around deck offer a great house to enjoy the spectacular views from. With 2 sliding glass doors, the sunny deck becomes an extension of the great room with lots of patio furniture, BBQ, and privacy. There is a large 2 car garage with extra parking, and 40 foot enclosed walkway for easy access to your cars in the wintertime.

As you walk in the front door, you are greeted by a Spanish tile hallway leading to 3 bedrooms. There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds, each with a TV, sliding glass door that exits out to a deck. Here you can enjoy a hot tub with the views of Twin Peaks. In the wintertime, you can watch skiers short cut home from Alpine Meadows through the front yard, and in the summertime you can watch squirrels climb the trees. Down the hall is laundry home, full bath, sauna area and another bedroom with queen bed,TV and twin. The sauna is the size of one you'd have a gym: 2 levels with enough room to spread out in. Next to the sauna is a changing area and with a 'Finnish' touch. Cool off in the shower room with four shower heads and glass atrium that looks out into the forest. It's a great way to end a non stop day. The changing area is also connected to a full bathroom. There are bathrobes in the bedrooms and in changing area for your use during your stay here.

The second level is the 'Great Room' and that it is. With 22 foot cathedral ceilings with floor to ceiling windows you won't be able to keep your eyes off the beautiful views of Twin Peaks . Bring your binoculars to view the occasional extreme skiers who snow mobiles up the mountain range and ski's down, and the incredible sights of wildlife year around. Two sliding glass doors exit out to a sunny wrap around deck with a barbecue, and patio furniture which is used in summer and winter. This level has the kitchen, living area and dining area all looking out to the views. The granite countertop kitchen is fully stocked and overlooks the living and dining area. The living area has a leather sectional and faces a large stone fireplace and 55" HDTV. The crackling sound of wood burning is a treat. The dining area is 1/2 nook with pillows, and 1/2 chairs. You can eat here, or relax here. It all faces an entertainment center with TV. DVD, stereo, IPod dock, and some games. From all areas in the main area, you can watch TV, enjoy the fireplace and views, or socialize with the rest of your group.

Off the living area is another full bath attached to a bedroom with queen bed and TV. Next to that room is the Master Bedroom. There is a King-size sleigh bed with TV, half bath off a changing area, and walk in closet. Indirect lighting and views of the forest make this room a bonus. Up the stairs from the living area, is an enclosed loft with pool table, TV, and two twin beds. Play pool during the day, and use the room for sleeping at night.

Because Lake Tahoe's motto is just 'play hard' extra attention has been given to a great bed and a good nights sleep. All the bedding is Hotel Style with memory foam mattress pad, luxury 300 count sheets, 4 down or down alternative pillows, duvet, and bed throw. You'll feel like you're in an upscale hotel.

There is wireless internet, 7 TV's on DISH 3 DVD players, 2 iPods docks, and 2 stereo's, washer and dryer, as well as upgraded towels, and extra niceties to make your stay enjoyable. When you arrive at the house, all beds are made, towels hung, and coffee service is provided for your first morning. The furnishings are user friendly with plenty of seating for your family and friends. High ceilings with large wooden beams, triangle shaped windows, and mountain decor compliment the 'Tahoe' feeling. The location and amenities of this home makes this a great vacation home year-round.

About Sandy Schrader

Lake Tahoe has been my playground for 20 years. With all the traveling I’ve done, there is nothing compared to the amenities and beauty the Tahoe basin has to offer. I purchased my first home here in 1992 and decided to share it with others when not in use. I now have many 5 and 6 bedrooms homes I offer for your enjoyment. Each have hot tubs, most with pool tables and in locations that allows easy access to the Lake and Ski resorts. They were purchased for vacation rentals and are designed to be user friendly with all the amenities of home. I have a full time staff that includes cleaning, maintenance and will respond within 24 hours for all your needs. Feel free to call me about my other homes, or to just to discuss the perfect ski run on the perfect day.

Sandy Schrader purchased this house in 1994

Why Sandy Schrader chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

The house is centrally located on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe, close to all.Lake Tahoe is unparalleled to any other destination I've been to in the world. The skiing in the wintertime is suburb, the beaches at the Lake in the summertime is liked being in Hawaii. White sand and crystal blue water. The weather is perfect and conducive to doing anything you want outdoors, year-around..

What makes this house unique

The location and privacy. Homeowners and their guests have access to a private parking lot right across the street from the Sherwood lift at Alpine Meadows. You can walk there from the house, or park there and hop on the lift! There is also a warming hut by the lift that serves BBQ, hot chocolate, beer, etc and lots of chairs.

I like both seasons. The skiing speaks for itself, but in the summertime there are tons on trails to explore around the house. Page Meadows is a popular trail system located a block away. The house is just up from the Lake at Sunnyside Resort which has a great restaurant with huge deck on piers right on the lake. You can spend all day here watching the wooden boats come in for a beverage or dining. You can access the bike path here and ride to River Ranch which is a beautiful ride along the Truckee River. Once you get to River Ranch, you can enjoy another great deck for dining while watching the river rafters come in. Rafting is a fun thing to do also.

Tahoe City has lots of restaurants and shops to enjoy. There is always something going on there to add to a weekend.

Even though there are tons of things to visit in Lake Tahoe, I totally enjoyed just hanging out in the house and on the deck. You really feel away from it all, but are close to everything. Plus...the views from this house are incredible.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Fantastic house with Fantastic views…

Our visit was in May 2014. My husband and I and four other couples had just finished a bus tour which ended in Lake Tahoe and were looking for some down time together. We picked your house and were very pleased. It had the WOW! factor. It was even better than the pictures. The view from the front of the house looking across the valley and mountains was stunning! The many bedrooms suited everyone very well. We could all spread out and not get in each others' way. Several of us would sit out on the deck as the sun came up over the mountain, drink our morning coffee, and enjoy the tranquil beauty. The house had everything we needed and the sauna and hot tub were nice perks. Sandy gave us the names of some very good restaurants nearby and places to visit. Your directions to the the different spots were very helpful and we found many incredible places we couldn't have found without your help. We had never seen anything as beautiful as Emerald Bay. The East shore was great to see with many beaches to take our dog. We had a great stay at your house thanks for all your help.

i'd re-rent this house in a heartbeat

  • 5 of 5

i am purposefully not re-reading any of the prior reviews - so that i am not biased. {you might be reading the same info. but please consider it 'fresh'.} we are a family of 8 (with 3 teens) - and were in this house for a week late March. The 3 standouts from our time: 1) the view is wonderful from the living and dining area - and there are wrap around windows so that you can see all; 2) the kitchen has grantie countertops 3) It was clean. The beds are quite comfortable; linens are great. Kitchen is well-stocked with cookware. Big TV with ### stations for the down time. There is lots of space on deck for folks to spread out and relax. A pretty fireplace too - used often. Other things that made life easy - washer and dryer in the house itself; lots of parking. Sandy could not be nicer - and wants to make sure all renters are happy. It was a great trip and great experience.

Strange layout - beware of the yellowjackets

  • 3 of 5

Although this place in Tahoe filled our group of 13, the pictures do make it seem much larger than it actually is. The layout of the home is extremely strange, with doors and doors everywhere. And as other people have mentioned, this house is small, so just be prepared. The kitchen was really cramped so cooking in the house was a challenge. And a lot of the furniture is just old. The other thing that was bothersome was that we went in September and there were yellowjackets everywhere so we couldn't even enjoy being on the deck at all. It would have been nice to have some sort yellowjacket repellant or catcher on the deck so we could have actually enjoyed it.

I will say however, that the hot tub was wonderful and all our needs were met. Sandra was accommodating with respect to the check out time. The house was kept clean and the instructions were very clear. There are plenty of nice hikes nearby and the actual Lake is a short drive away.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. The pictures are a combination of iPhone and professional photographer with room for 13 guests. Kitchen is open with granite countertops and usually big enough for a group your size. The furnishings were mostly purchased in the last 3 years and many pieces are higher end from Pottery Barn and Henredon . Not sure what extra doors mean and/or strange layout. The house is an open floor plan and all the doors lead to bedrooms and/or bathrooms. Yellow Jackets were is full force in late August ALL AROUND the Lake. Locals were all very surprised to have experienced this because there is usually nothing flying around including flys. I would have sent my handyman over with some sort of bee repellent if I had known they were a problem for you at that time. I’m glad you enjoyed the hot tub and hiking around the house and hope you return in a typical Sept where there aren’t any bees.

I Would Not Rent This Property Again

  • 2 of 5

We stayed in this property 2 nights. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros :

Nice views from the kitchen, living room and balcony

The house is surrounded by lots of trees

Nice decor

Beds were comfortable

Kitchen was well stocked

Sauna was big a big plus and it even included several pairs of flip-flops to use

We were allowed an early check-in at noon

The house is 15 minutes away from the lake and not 10 as listed in the house details. The closest grocery store is by the lake.

The entrance with so many stairs was an ordeal when you have to bring your luggage and groceries up to the house.

This house is more suitable for groups of people sharing the rent and not for families. In the first floor there is 1 bathroom to be shared by the people staying in the 3 bedrooms.

On the second level, there is one full bathroom and a ½ bathroom, therefore, there are 2 ½ bathrooms total and not 3 as listed on the website.

Even though the beds were comfortable at least two of them were very high.

There are 5 bedrooms and a loft. The house should not be listed as 6 bedrooms because one is the loft and the fact that it doesn’t even have a door, it should not be counted as a room.

The pool table was in the loft. We had a friend and her daughter sleep there so we were never able to use the pool table because you have to climb extra stairs to get to the loft and we didn’t want to intrude on somebody else’s sleeping area.

The rooms were small and dark. The only room that was bigger was the one with the ½ bath. The light switch in this bedroom wasn’t working so you had to use the wall lamps. There also wasn’t a remote control for the TV in this bedroom.

You cannot get to the balcony because of the Jacuzzi, by the way, we did not use it because it was very inconvenient to get to it because you either cross one bedroom or you go out of the house and get to it by the side of the house and it feels you were on the street. No privacy at all. The light switch on this room wasn’t working.

No phone reception at all.

You cannot rely on the pictures, they don't reflect the real size of the rooms and the house. The kitchen is outdated and very small, only 3 people could be there at the same time. Living room was very small and only 5 people can sit down due to the size of the couches. Dining room small as well. There were 2 chairs that if you use them, you cannot enter the kitchen.

The property is overpriced for what it offers.

Excellent vacation experience in Lake Tahoe!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time here. The owner was very accomodating and the arrangements were wonderful and welcoming. The kids loved sleeping in the loft and playing pool all night. The house is extremely well appointed and they have thought of everything one needs and more for an excellent vacationing experience. We would definitely return here again.

Beautiful view and great location

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I all thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Tahoe City at Sandy's house. The view was incredible and the drive from downtown took at most 10 minutes, so pretty close! We shared several lovely meals together in the open kitchen and dining areas, enjoyed the large deck, absolutely loved the hot tub, and even saw a dear walking around in the backyard! There was one snafu with one of the bathtubs not draining properly but Sandy was super responsive and sent a plumber out to fix it asap. By the time we came home from hiking it was all fixed up! The house has mountain decor, which gives it lots of character and makes it feel very homey. I recommend this property if you're looking for a relaxing and comfortable home.

Located in one of the most desired neighborhoods on the North Shore, you are walking distance to the back side of Alpine Meadows with privileges. There is a private parking pass that will allow you to park right at the Sherwood lift, a quad high speed chair, and get on! Alpine Meadows allows the homeowners living in this neighborhood and/or guests to start here without at ticket and ski to the front side to purchase it. And, the homeowners have their own snow grader which purposely leaves enough snow along the roads so you can ski home if you want to leave your group. Don't ski? Enjoy the hut at the lift for morning coffee, lunch, or just watching all the activity on the hill. In the summertime, the cat tracks become a playground for mountain biking and hiking. Endless trails with Lake views and wildflowers will keep you entertained.

The snow melts into Ward Creek which is easily accessed from the house, known for its trout fishing. Tennis? yep...1 homeowner tennis court are here for your use.

Ward Valley is known for its peaceful setting of houses divided by forest land and views that are breathless. Just up from the Lake at Sunnyside Resort, you have total peace at the house, and 3 miles away you're at the Lake with shops, restaurants, nightlife, and an array of activities. Tahoe City is the city to be in on the North Shore. With Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley, and Homewood at your doorstep, you won't be able to ski a run twice. The winter months is a haven for skiing, snow boarding snow snowmobiling. cross county skiing, and with its backdrop the Lake.. you can't beat the experience.

Summer is as good as the winter. The Truckee River opens its doors to the melting snow which offers a nice river for rafting. You can pick up your raft in Tahoe City and cruise down to River Ranch. Its mild enough for the whole family. At River Ranch there is a large outdoor deck with BBQ, outdoor bars, and a great spot to watch the rafters come it. Raft 1 day, bike another. You can access the bike path from the house that will meander along the Truckee River to Truckee. River Ranch is a 1/3 way point.

Tahoe City boasts Commons Beach, but some of the best beaches on the Lake are found on the West Shore. Meeks Bay has a beach that will remind you of being in a cove somewhere in Hawaii but with mountains. Pristine, crystal clear blue water, white sand beach, smell of tall pines, views of mountains. Its a wonderful setting for a picnic. Chambers Landing is known for the long pier/dock with bar and restaurant at the end of it. This is where all the great wooden boats eventually stop at for a refreshment. The beach is beautiful here, and the entertainment remember able. Can't beat the lakefront restaurants. West Shore Cafe has dining on their pier, with large deck, outdoor bars, and incredible food. 3 miles from the house is Sunnyside Resort with outdoor deck, boat rentals, pier and definitely an afternoon libation. You'll find a multitude of lake front venues in downtown Tahoe City.

Lake Tahoe is truly a special place, and this is a special house to enjoy it in.
