Unusual place – not much peace and quiet

  • 2 of 5

We enjoyed the top floor for this house. It was comfortable and had a nice deck for enjoying the view and the evening air. There were some negatives however. We have been to Maui several times and always rent a quiet place in the countryside so we can enjoy the solitude. The website indicated that the owner might use the downstairs bathroom occasionally, and upon our arrival, he told us that no one was sleeping downstairs. However people came and went from that unit periodically, used its kitchen, and talked loudly enough that it interfered with the peace and quiet we were anticipating. People were downstairs late at night and early in the morning, so it seems unlikely that no one was sleeping there.

Quiet and Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Pole house. The structure, which was raised up on the second floor, was absolutely beautiful. The only slight downside is they were still doing some construction/work around the property and thus the first floor equipment/gear took away some of the appeal (which didn't bother us much). The property was very quiet for the most part and the host, John, was very nice. We did hear him fighting with one of the workers one day, which was a bit awkward, but he came up and apologized after. Overall we really enjoyed our stay there and would totally stay again next time in Maui!

4th year for us!

  • 5 of 5

This is the 4th year that we stayed at the Pole House (my husband and I renamed it the Haiku Treehouse). John is the perfect host. He makes you feel so welcome and at home. Communication with John was great. He is very prompt with getting back to you and making sure you have everything you need to feel comfortable.

John's place is the only place that we have returned to...and we have stayed at over 50 vacation rentals! His place is away from the tourists and you feel like you're in the tropics. We don't like sterile environments. The place is so unique and you feel with one with nature. It's very open to nature, which means that you get geckos and some bugs. But that only made us feel like real Hawaiians. Haha. The pictures do not do this place justice. We loved hanging out on the deck and taking in the fantastic views!

John also has tips on local hikes , places to eat and directed us to the Pukalani farmers market (The market is a great way to hang with the locals and buy local produce and goods...away from touristy prices).

I would definitely recommend John's place for anyone that wants to stay off the beaten path and want a closer feel to nature.

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing with views of the ocean and island to die for!! I felt like I was staying in a tree house with all the luxury amenities, And was very private and remote..

“John” the owner gave us a very warming greeting and made sure we had everything we needed. He takes pride in this place and we will definitely come back soon to stay in this beautiful one of a kind home,

Thank you again John for making us feel at home!!!!
