Nice property unfit landlords
My wife & 2 young boys stayed there. First we paid rental cost on homeaway only for landlord to contact us saying website was wrong & demanding more $. We paid. Then they took partial security deposit even though we followed their extensive list, even watering their flowers repeatedly (their lease required we do this). We spent hours cleaning and for the 1st of many rentals, including on homeaway, didn't rcv full deposit. And this is with our paying cleaning fee. It's a nice property but these people shouldn't be renting it as they're unfit. I'm not saying bad people, just unfit landlords. We were leary of renting place w/no reviews and should have gone w/our gut. I expect landlord to reply saying we were dirty. If that's true then every other place we've rented is wrong.
Please know that we value feedback from our guests, so that we can make our vacation home welcoming and comfortable. We appreciate the complimentary comments that you wrote in our house guest book. We truly tried to accommodate your family's needs by agreeing to rent our house from July 7-11 instead of our typical minimum stay of a week and by providing you with earlier access to our vacation home (10:00 AM arrival instead of 2:00 PM).
We do not agree with your description of the situation. Within several hours of accepting your reservation on June 16th, we discovered that HomeAway's rental fee calculation was incorrect, since the first day of your four day stay contemplated our spring season rate and not our summer season rate. We immediately notified you by email of this issue. We did not receive a response despite three attempts to reach you by email and a phone call. We contacted HomeAway on June 27th and they offered to contact you. Later that day you remitted the additional payment.
The rental agreement that you reviewed and signed stipulated a cleaning fee and that the security deposit would be refunded in full as long as "no excessive cleaning was required." The cleaning fee ensures that we maintain a consistent standard of cleanliness for each guest when they arrive. We expect our guests to leave the premises in the same neat and tidy condition as they find it.
Upon your departure, we were disappointed to find that the house was not clean. We provide a brief departure check-out checklist to assist our guests which is common practice. It took four hours (two additional hours) to clean our house, so you were charged accordingly. We recognize that not every guest is able to perform household cleaning for a number of understandable reasons. Those guests may opt to pay the additional cleaning fee, just as someone returning a rental car to the airport with a tight flight connection might opt to pay the convenience fee to have the fuel tank filled.
