Shopping, restaurants, and Alameda beach are within convenient walking distance. Downtown Park St (movie theater, restaurants, more shopping) is 1.5 miles (2.5km) away. Sleeps 6 but the living room futon can accommodate a 7th guest.
To get to San Francisco via public transit:
There is a transbay bus stop on Santa Clara and 9th St, 2 blocks from the house. You will want to catch the "O" line which stops in downtown SF. Fares are $4.20 adult, $2.10 youth (age 5-18) each way. The bus is the fastest and most convenient public transit option, running every 15 minutes during rush hour, but dropping to once per hour after, and stopping completely at 10PM.
To take Bart, there is a local bus stop 1 block from my house on Santa Clara and Mozart St. Catch the #51A bus to 12th St and Broadway in Oakland - fares are $2.10 adult, $1.05 youth. Catch Bart at the Oakland City Center 12th St Station. The #51A runs regularly throughout the day. Catch an SF, SFO, Millbrae, or Daly City train to any of the downtown SF stations. Fares are $4.00 each way.
To take the ferry, drive to 2990 Main St, Alameda or catch the #51A bus (see above) and get off at Atlantic and Webster. Walk down Webster toward the tunnel, make a left at Willie Stargell, then right on Main St. If you drive, be aware that the parking lot fills up during rush hour. Fares to SF are $6.80 adult, $3.40 youth. The ferry runs from 6AM to 8:45PM.
