About Bruce Blew
Hello! My name is Bruce. Welcome to New Orleans. I am a retired Chemical Engineer, who presently owns & operates The Junque Shop Antique Store in the Faugborg Marigny, at the base of world famous Frenchmen Street. I personally renovated my home in 2005-2006.
Bruce Blew purchased this House in 2005
Why Bruce Blew chose Algiers Point
This is a Raised 'Shotgun' Double built in 1929, completely renovated in 2005-2006. It is located in historic Algiers Point, the second oldest settlement in New Orleans. It was built by a lumber yard owner. The walls are 6 inches thick & reinforced diagonally. The 2006 renovation opened the home to one living area upstairs.
What makes this House unique
My home is an economical alternative to the French Quarter, and yet is just a four block walk or drive to the Algiers/Canal Street Car/Passenger Ferry. Historic Algiers Point is a quiet alternative to the fast French Quarter pace, and yet close enough to enjoy the full benefits of the French Quarter and all of New Orleans.

Great experience! Wonderful rental!!
Thoroughly enjoyed staying here for a week long vacation with our ‘tribe’. Reviews and ratings say it all. Very clean, well-stocked home with a lot of character. Had great interaction and communication with owner. Thank you Bruce for a great stay!
I’m so glad your “tribe” enjoyed my home. LOL. Please come back.
I'm not a first timer..and I can honestly say this was by far my favorite stay!
The host was very communicative, making sure to contact me with explicit instructions. He not only gave me instructions on access, but perfect directions to the location (New Orleans can be tough). There were so many wonderful brochures and recommendations on things to do left for us in the home, as well as directions to local establishments we may enjoy. The property itself is amazing! The neighborhood is a quaint historical spot, one of the safest in New Orleans. Everything was pristine. The antique furniture and art was amazing! You can tell the host has an eye for the arts.
Everything you could possibly need is there inside the house, including a washer and dryer, all the kitchen accessories you could possibly need, and the linens and towels are plentiful, clean and fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will definitely return.
Thank you so much. Please visit again.
Truly a great NOLA stay!
The property is in a safe neighborhood near two brunch/coffee Shoppes within walking distance, that seem to stay open quite late into the night. The ferry, an inexpensive form of convenient travel, which leads to the the Riverwalk Shopping Center, French Quarter and French Market, is a 6 minute walk from the house.
The home itself is very cozy and tastefully decorated in antique furniture that's true to the NOLA feel. Also, it's spotless, which is a huge plus!
The beds are comfortable and each bedroom is its own oasis with plenty of privacy.
There are plenty of towels, face rags and even dish rags and drying rags for the kitchen. There's also a washer and dryer that work quite well.
The kitchen has a deep sink that allows you the capability of washing a large pot or two after making a good gumbo or a pot of red beans and rice. Every utensil you'll need is available! There's even a toaster and a coffee pot. Bring your own coffee, sugar and creamer, or just go get some fresh, amazing brew that's offered, only two blocks away!
The master tub is like a small pool, and I personally enjoyed soaking in it every morning and evening! (Especially after walking miles around the French Quarter!)
Grocery stores, gas stations, Applebee's, Popeyes and other fast food choices are nearby, if that's your thing.
This is definitely a FIVE STAR stay. The owner is informative, professional and kind.
There's no way you will be disappointed with this rental. We will be back!
It's spacious and perfect! Our family was so impressed. The pictures are nice but do this home no justice.
Book This VRBO!!!!!
Home was very clean and rustic. Minutes from the Ferry.
Good Location, Very Clean
Pretty clean and comfortable. Good location, in a walking distance from the ferry. We would definately come back to this place. The only problem we had, one of the beds made too much noise when we were sleeping on it.
We loved this place!
This comfortable historic home full of antiques in a beautiful neighborhood made our 3 night trip to NOLA unforgettable.
First order of the trip was a coffee purchase from the coffee shop down the street. It was some of the best coffee I’ve had! They gave us a little cup of sugar and we bought half and half from Tout de Suite. We had breakfast there every morning except Monday, (because the kitchen is closed on mon.!) and everyone finished every bite. It was just a couple of blocks away so we walked, even though it was middle of August. It felt almost like being in a bed and breakfast! We used Whole Foods near the quarter and near Magazine street on our way back from those areas for food supplies.
The 2.5 baths and 3 bedrooms was perfectly situated for our 3 daughters and ourselves.
There are bicycles to rent down by the restaurant and I think by the ferry, you just have to download the app for blue bikes.
The ferry is a great way to get to the French quarter but the bridge is also an easy drive and I love it’s lights.
We went to the WWII museum for the first time and I see why it’s rated one of the best museums in the world!
Thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay in NOLA. I greatly appreciate you leaving my home do clean. Please come back.
My home is a four (4) block walk or drive to the Algier's Point/Canal Street Ferry. A five minute ferry ride to The base of the French Quarter leaves you by Harrah's Casino, Riverwalk Mall, Canal Mall & Cinema, and a short walk to all of the French Quarter.
