There are numerous vineyards of Bergerac for wine enthusiasts and there is a different local market situated in a nearby village or town for every day of the week. Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay with Linda & George was wonderful. While it was a joy to spend a week at Butterfly Cottage, it was truly Linda & George who made our visit so very memorable! From the time I first communicated with Linda until the day we sadly had to depart they were always warm, personable, and helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the area & taking the time to make us feel at home.

Sincerely, Paul

Dear Linda and George,

I echo Paul's sentiments and more!

He was sure your accommodations were going to be wonderful after viewing some of your photos on line and communicating several times with you. Neither one of us expected it to be so magical here! You two have created a warm and welcoming and completely comfortable home away from home! Your friendliness and knowledge of the area you share makes a visit to your abode all the more enjoyable and unforgettable! I love the way Paul made it his daily joy to feed and talk to your lovely hens! Relaxing by the pool watching the cows graze was an extra bonus for me. Aah!!! Visiting here was all a vacation should be!

Thank you so much for your warm hospitality, conversation, sharing of valuable site-seeing details, eggs, milk, juice, wines, Dimitri, Roosevelt, friendliness and laughter! I do hope we can return one day. If Paul had his way, he'd be visiting a realtor and putting down roots in the beautiful and magical Perigord and Dordogne region before returning stateside! The welcome mat is always out at our home for you two!

Many Thanks for the Memories, Cynthy

A wonderful Visit!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Butterfly Cottage, Les Hirondelles the first week of May 2016. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon from Provence and located the narrow farm road leading to Les Hirondelles with minimal effort as the directions provided by Linda were excellent. When I first viewed the rural setting I found it to be peaceful and beautiful. Linda met us and showed us to our apartment. She provided us with a thorough briefing, the apartment had everything we could possible need, and the way it was decorated was warm and inviting. They even had several brochures with valuable information about the area. The location of Les Hirondelles proved to be within minutes of most all the sites we wanted to visit to include caves, cliff dwellings, lovely chateaus, quaint towns with farmer markets, etc.. Linda provided us with great tips as to restaurants, wonderful ideas as to how to plan a day's excursion to get the most out of our visit, and she and George answered all my questions about the area. Linda and George were great hosts, easy to work with, and very personable. I really enjoyed our conversations. Our visit to Les Hirondelles was a wonderful experience and onI hope to repeat!

Perfect relaxing time in Perigord

  • 5 of 5

Looking for a quiet and relaxing week in the Perigord area we found at the Hirondelles cottage the perfect place...

Georges and Linda are very kind and prepared the cottage with everything you would need to start your holiday in the best way you could expect.

The pool (28°C in April) and Jacuzzi are perfect to take some good time in between the visit of all castle, caves and sweet area around carmensac.

No hesitation if you wish to visit the area and the cottage is free... only drawback is the TV without french channels but place is so nice that even for the french guy I am you cannot take this into account for ratings.

Merci et à très bientôt j'espère.

“WOW” – The Butterfly Cottage in one word !

  • 5 of 5

We went to the Dordogne expecting to relax, see some sights, drink some wine and enjoy the countryside.

We left having done all that and so much more than we had even dreamed.

The wonderful hospitality from Linda and George, was superb and will not be forgotten. Their suggestions and recommendations were over and above.

What else can we say to express our gratitude – the cottage so beautiful with all its amenities, the pool, the Jacuzzi, the grounds, the birds, the chickens and of course Dimitri, will be in our memories until the next time we return.

Choosing the Butterfly Cottage is a choice you’ll be glad you made !

The Butterfly Cottage exceeded all our expectation

  • 5 of 5

We had such a lovely & relaxing time, it was just what we needed to unwind & chill out. It was lovely to not have to worry if we had everything we needed, because you’re provided every possible thing you could imagine. The Butterfly Cottage exceeded all our expectations in every way – so beautifully furnished, loved the king sized bed, clean fully provided for kitchen, charming and relaxing living room, felt like home, and centrally located to all the sights. Linda & George go above and beyond to make your stay in the Dordogne a very memorable one. One of our best vacations ever!

Wonderful Cottage and Perfect Hosts

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for a week in late October and it was a delightful and memorable experience. The cottage would have been a great find even without George and Linda. As noted in the other reviews, it is very spacious for a couple, spotlessly clean, and very well furnished, with a fully equipped kitchen (everything you could wish for and some things that were surprising (like an immersion blender and a citrus zester)); a spacious and comfortable sitting/dining area; a very nice bathroom with a great shower; and a large bedroom with a very comfortable king bed and lots of closet/storage space. The grounds are large and private, with a lovely garden; a great pool; a hot tub we used every night; and a (quiet) chicken coop that provides fresh eggs. Although the area is very quiet and peaceful it is not too remote; there are nearby markets and dozens of interesting sights nearby. Everything about the cottage was very comfortable and thoughtfully arranged, and that by itself would have made this one of the nicest places we have ever been.

What made our stay truly exceptional was the thoughtfulness and graciousness of our hosts. Linda and George are both very committed to make sure you have a wonderful time, both at the cottage and on your travels around the area. I like to plan, and sometimes get too ambitious. Linda took the time to gently steer me in a much more realistic direction, sparing me (and my wife, who is less ambitious) from driving too far away and trying to do too many things in the week we had (my plan would have been better for a two week trip). We ended up having a much more relaxing time and being able to enjoy more sights very close to the cottage, while still making it home in time to enjoy cooking dinner with ingredients from the local markets (or one night prepared by Dimitri, who I also recommend as part of your stay). George responded immediately and effectively to a practical questions that came up while we were there. Both before and during our stay Linda and George were immediately accessible and responsive but not at all intrusive.

We have been to France many times but had never been to the Dordogne before, and really enjoyed both the sights and its natural beauty. I cannot recommend the Butterfly cottage highly enough as a base from which to explore the Dordogne (or to just relax). As you can see from their reviews, Linda and George haven’t disappointed anyone yet, and they made our stay an absolute delight.

Butterfly Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to France & we couldn't have wished for a more exclusive & romantic cottage to stay in. We were so pleased to have booked it for three weeks as every day was memorable. Linda & George were not only a lovely couple but also excellent hosts. Friendly & very knowledgeable on the local chateau's, villages, markets & beautiful places to visit in the Dourdonge area. They were always present but with out ever being intrusive. We loved the region & our daily sightseeing, but it was always a pleasure to 'come home' to Butterfly cottage for a glass of wine in our very private secluded courtyard. The cottage with it's many amenities was faultless in every way. One of the many highlights during our stay was the evening meal prepared & cooked for us by Dimitri. His obvious love of food & cooking was infectious. He produced seemingly effortlessly a superb three course meal. We would recommend it to everyone who stays at the cottage.

Anyone considering staying with Linda & George at Butterfly cottage we say don't just think about it, book it !!

We are within a short driving distance of many fascinating historical sites, such as Les Eyzies and the caves at Montignac and the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat. There are stunning villages and châteaux to explore as well as the Dordogne and Vezere rivers offering fishing and canoeing. For wine enthusiasts we are close to the vineyards of the Bergerac area for wine-tasting expeditions and of course there are plenty of superb restaurants to experience the local cuisine. There is also a different local market situated in a nearby village or town for every day of the week. Sarlat throughout the summer has an extensive program of music, arts, night markets, fairs and activities for all ages. The town of Sarlat has a wonderful food market each Wednesday and Saturday. Also Le Bugue offers an organic market on Tuesday and St Cyprien on Sunday. For outdoor activities: cliff climbing, hot air ballooning, zip lining, flying, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, golfing, hiking, and hundreds of châteaux's and caves to explore.
