Thank you so much for this beautiful farm and your warm welcome . It is a quiet and relaxing place , very good to finish our holidays in Ireland . Ireland is a fabulous country .
We had a very comfortable and peaceful stay. The weather was great and the views from the cottage were superb.
Anyone who wanted a quiet and peaceful stay, this was an ideal cottage. Plenty to do and sea within a reasonable distance
with the nearest town about a 10 minutes drive away.
The cottage was clean and tidy and had everything that you needed for your stay.
Walter and Josephene were perfect hosts.
We had visits from their pets, the goats and the pig. The cows greeted us every morning over the fence.
The local pub in Schull was great and the food was super.
this is one of the reviews that you don't really want to be doing because you want to keep the secret of the place to yourself! But Josephine and Walter really deserve to have the word gotten out about their place, so here goes:
We spent a week at the holiday rental in July, with our 2 girls (6 and 8). The house is very comfortable and also beautiful, with wonderful views and all set up for a family of 4, including tons of board games which my 8 year old loved.
My 6 year old loved "helping" at the farm - mainly carrying the (slightly terrified) ducklings from one cage to the other. In the evenings, we would have a family walk with the resident billy goat, and the kids both were so charmed with it they insisted they'd rather have a goat than a dog. There are paths on the property that lead to some nice ocean views, through the goat pasture, and it's great fun for the kids. There's also a playground, and there were 2 nice dogs, which is a plus with my kids.
In short, we liked it so much we would love to return. The town of Schull is nearby, where they have a fun farmer's market and a bunch of restaurants and boutiques that make for fun strolling. Barleycove beach is a short rive away. For smaller children, there is another great beach even closer than Barleycove.
thanks for a great stay!
It was a wonderful stay. 1000 thanks to Josephine for a warm and more than friendly welcome. Greetings from Nene to Fergus and Digger. May we see us again.
Just returned from our trip to Ireland and couldn't wait to tell everyone what a great stay our family had at Loughbeg farm. Walter and Josephine were excellent hosts and the farm and cottage are just gorgeous and very well maintained. The location is stunning and the people of the area are amongst the friendliest I've ever met. On our first morning we woke up to find cows staring in our windows and goats trotting around near our front doorstep... our two year old daughter couldn't believe her eyes. In addition to all of the farm animals the owners allowed us to pick our own veggies from their greenhouse. If we ever return to Ireland (which, I sincerely hope we do) we'll definitely be coming back to Loughbeg farm.
Loughbeg farm is the perfect place for a lovely family holiday. As the other reviewers have said Josephine & Walter are extremely welcoming with lovely fresh veg, eggs (duck and hen), chocolates , homemade biscuits etc on arrival. The cottage is lovely really bright with wonderful views over the farm and countryside with everything you need for a home away from home - including sky tv and plenty of games, books and dvds for children and adults alike. Our daughters aged 8,6 and 2 had a marvellous time. The older 2 were up and dressed early each morning waiting to go to help milk the goats and feed the hens, pigs, ducks and geese. We did the hill walk each day too visiting the horses, sheep and of course Tootles the donkey on our way back. Schull is 5 minutes away by car and has lovely shops and restaurants. We dined extremely well too on the freshest duck eggs (which our 2 year old particularly enjoyed), Goats cheese and of course the delicious goats milk ice cream. Our 2 year old was also extremely fond of Josephine's homemade biscuits. There is a lovely sheltered garden with a swing and slide for the children to play in. There is also a great Sunday market in Scull. It is also very easy to tour West Cork. The sheep's head drive, Bantry and Mizen Head are well worth visiting, along with beaches a short drive away on Barley Cove a bit further. So when it comes to a holiday location as our 6 year old said - Loughbeg is hard to beat! Thanks again for a wonderful holiday and see you next year.
We had a lovely, peaceful, restful week in this gorgeous cottage. We are a family with 3 children aged from 7 to 12. We received a warm welcome from Josephine and Walter and their family. We particularly liked the basket of home grown vegetables and delicious chocolates from a local 'chocolaterie' in Schull together with a bunch of lovely wildflowers and an informative guide on West Cork.
The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and the front of the cottage faces away from the family house and farm and gives a beautiful view of the lovely rugged West Cork landscape. On a fine day its lovely to sit out with a cup of tea or glass of wine and feel undisturbed. We enjoyed lovely long walks on Walter and Josephine's farm as well as in the local area. The children enjoyed walking around and looking at the animals - the pigs were a special favourite. They loved feeding them and missed them the most after we came home!
The cottage is well equipped with everything for cooking, cleaning and entertainment with Sky television as well as an Internet connection just in case you might want to check your emails! .
The cottage is only a few minutes drive from the village of Schull. There are lots of pretty shops to wander around and restaurants. We liked the New Haven restaurant and the Creperie. The food was delicious and the atmosphere very relaxed if you are travelling with children.
Schull is good base for exploring West Cork as it is only a short distance to beaches and other pretty West Cork villages. If you are not travelling and want to sit at home with a good book than Josephine and Walter's cottage is the perfect place. We had a lovely holiday - our only regret was that we had not booked a longer stay. We definitely hope to be back.
Loughbeg Cottage is 5 minutes from the beautiful village of Schull in West Cork. Located in a rural farming area within easy reach of Balirisode and Barleycove beaches, harbours, shops, hotels, restaurants, leisure activities, lake, walks, and the most southerly point of Ireland, Mizen Head. Loughbeg is a small sheep, horse, and vegetable farm of 20 acres. From the land you can see Cape Clear, Sherkin Island, the Fastnet Rock, and Dunmanus Bay. It's only half an hour from the lovely shopping towns and country markets of Skibbereen and Bantry. There are so many things to do in the area...sea-kayaking, whale watching, sailing, craft workshops, surfing, wildlife photography, cookery courses, art workshops, creative writing, and forums on sustainable living themes.
